Love the dresses! On the second dress, I think I'd like it better with a short sleeve. If you have two more buttons, I'd leave a little bit of the slit and add the second button at the hem. Love the fabric on both.
I LOVE 8332! I'll be getting that pattern. I'm a size 2X and I think I can wear that style. It looks FABULOUS on you, but what wouldn't? Pretty fabric too. Thank you!
The border hem in black was nice..the buttons on the sleeves to cover the pivot was brilliant thinking...sometimes our errors are blessings in disguise...
LOVE LOVE your videos. A bought a couple of tops from Dillards that had the split sleeve. To keep the sleeves from flapping, a narrow piece (like a hemmed tube) of fabric was attached on both sides of the opening about every 3 inches. It gives the feel of an open sleeve, but still holds the sleeve together. Each of bands was decorated with a small button on each side. Gave it a very nice look.
I used to sew when my kids were very young. Then life happened and I stopped. Just lately getting back into it and sewing for my granddaughter. Would like to make something for myself. I think you have be very helpful, love seeing you model the pattetns. Its better to see what a finished item is going to look like before buying the pattern. THANK YOU. Always look forward to your videos.
Love the orange, turquoise and black dress Simplicity 8332. Looks darling on you. Love the added black detail on the hem and the black bow in the back. Sheer genius of an idea. Cute, cute cute on you. Just a doll baby on.
Thanks laverne.💕I wore that one to the event and danced all evening in it. It was perfect! Maybe I missed having pockets. Forgot to put them in and I want to do that next time (pattern is drafted without them.)😄
I love the little floral dress! I think i have some great fabric for one for myself! And i also love the purple grunge dot! I think a sheer split sleeve would be awesome and would have a nicer drape than the stiff fabric. Just love it💕
I really love the first dress on you. The second dress . . . is it possible to tack stitch the sleeve openings in a few evenly spaced spots so it would still give you the skin peep but not the floppy/revealing view of the fabric reverse?
the second dress look very unique, a party dress! don't rid of it it suits you, I wouldn't have thought it a day dress more of like I said party style, new years year maybe !
You know, you are like a chemist with your creations. Look at what you do. Lengthening the dress with trim; it's like heirloom sewing. Also, the button placement on the purple dress reminds me of the ancient romans. Creative and chic! Can't wait to see the next fashion and what you do with it. I need that first pattern in my life. Wow. I'd love to see its three sisters with it side by side.
Love your Dresses! Both are darling! I must say you are a excellent seamstress ! You are going to have to decide on which one YOU love best! I’m still thinking of how much I loved your reversible black dress! 😍
Your tan looks so lovely! Lovely dress - I love the bow detail on the back and the hem too. I cant get away with an empire line but you are rocking it!
a party is an opportunity at least for me to shine and look absolutely stunning and fabulous and elegant going for the "wow you made that it is beautiful" while being comfy. both dresses are nice but if neither are making you feel fabulous when you put them on then maybe consider something else. from the video you are radiant and smiling and happy in the first dress so you gotta be feeling pretty good. the 2nd dress while pretty you are not 100 percent sold on the sleeves. I say cut them short or take them off but as someone said patterns are like recipes they are the starting point not the end game work it until YOU FEEL fabulous in it
Wow Viv, You look great from the rest and the sun. The first dress is fabulous and shows that you’ve made it before. The trims that you added were genius. The flair at the hem looks so good with that style of dress. The bow brings it to High Street Fashion. Your second dress is fabulous also it fits you and the color is wonderful on you. Your sleeves are maybe just missing some organza or fine lace in that area. You can turn it in to a feature of the dress. With those cuffs it would not be hard to transform them. Again glad you and your family got home safely and you back sewing again. Blessings
The dresses turned out great! The first one, I really liked the bow ...and the dark on the hem looked intended so ...you did great ! I enjoyed the sleeves on the other ....fun and frolic ! The button detail was nice..Love the color... Thought you looked great in both...🤗
I love love the 1st dress...the added band for length and the bow! Love it...so cute on you. The 2nd dress...it well sewn but like you said...the sleeves are just something...maybe if the split was on the top rather than the inner area. It's great to see these reviews. Appreciate that you share with all of us. Very inspiring.
Love the 8332 and that black border looks fab. You made the split sleeve dress! It looks lovely on you. If you don't like the full length slit sleeve could you make them shorter and curve the edge away from the split so you keep a little of the slit effect? You may not see the reverse of the fabric so much that way? Have a fabulous time and looking forward to seeing which dress won the 'party stakes'!
I bought the same pattern, but haven't sewn it yet. I'm so glad that you previewed it because I thought the sleeves just had a pleat in them. I'm with you. I don't like the split so if there is enough, bending space, I will sew the sleeves closed. Since you had no alterations to make, I see right away I have to lower the bust dart. ( I'm no longer young and perky lol).
Those split sleeves were a huge disappointment BUT I didn’t use very loosey-goosey fabric. I can’t help but think they’d be better in something like rayon challis, who knows. This dress was long ago cut into a top, lol, so I think it was a fail then save.
Cute dresses! I was going to buy that fabric from fabric mart but I was unsure about the print. It looks wonderful on you! I’m glad you feel great in that dress.
Love the first dress! The black trim and bow look fabulous! Not sure about the split sleeves on the second dress. The buttons were a great idea. Can't wait to see which party dress you choose! 😊
Hey Viv. The 8832 is adorable. And the purple one not quite so successful. I agree with you on the sleeves-being able to see the back of the fabric is problematic. Let us see it again if you change them OK? Glad you had a good trip and I hope your son’s party is amazing. Let us know what you chose to wear in the end. As always, I look forward to your videos -they always make me smile.
I subscribed, I enjoy your personality and your choice in patterns and fabric!!!. Your videos are different and useful in there own way I appreciate you Vivmom.
Welcome aboard, Pat! So glad you’re here. I have been enjoying making these little videos so much, and the friendliness of people is outstanding.👍 I am working on a lot of pieces this month so that my November Makes video has some “sizzle and pop” to it!💥 Thank you for writing. Keep in touch!😄💕
You look so rested and tanned. I love the first dress on you. I might have to look that pattern up. I agree with you about the sleeves on the second dress. You have a lovely figure anything you put on looks great. High five on getting two dresses done in two days!
beautiful fabric for the first...sunny and happy. Don't like #2 wonder how it will hold up with washing, also the back wrinkles. You did a nice job on the lined sleeve!
I think I saw that pattern, the one with the split sleeves, and wondered how that would look. Don't take the sleeves off yet! Maybe add one button half way, or two buttons spaced equally. I like the split sleeve look but just not that big. Good job!
Your dress is gorgeous.colours and design. Sorry I'm late was in canary islands. I do hope your hols where. Great. Mine where.Split sleeves are lovely, but your right you don't need them in that design.
Viv, you look positively radiant in the first dress! I love the fabric and the black trim really makes it pop! You should wear that to the party, for sure. You look comfortable and happy in it and I think it would photograph well. I think the sleeves on the second dress are going to irritate you to no end. I am all about a trendy element in a dress, but not if you have to fuss with it all day and night. As beautiful as that dress is, because you can make any dress look beautiful, if you don't feel comfortable in it, that is what people will notice about it. You are way too cool for those sleeves Viv!
Ok Viv, This is it!!! That first dress is THE ONE!!! Love it! Love the style, the color is just perfect on you. I love the trim and then you turned around and I see the bow. I'm telling you, it is perfect. Please go with that one. By the way, the other one is cute too, but the 8332 is my favorite. Have a wonderful time...and let us all know which one you choose. Your buddy, Deb
I love the first dress and your ribbon detail at the bottom and back really elevates the dress. While the sleeves are interesting on the second dress and not something I had seen before - wonder if a knit might work better? I agree that particular dress would look better sleeveless or with a different sleeve - the dress is a star on its own.
I am so amazed at you and how fast you can sew things together. Can you do a video on how to alter patterns to fit a body? When I make something it seems to be too big in the arm pit and tight through the hips. I even add for the hips. I have a dress form, but I don't know how to really use this. Thanks for being you. Since I found your channel, it has ignited the fire in me to sew more. I have eight grandchildren (one more one the way in November) and four are girls. I love to sew for them.
That material sure is different.... reminds me of a beauty shop cape... probably not in real life, but in this video it does. You look cute in everything!
The black trim on the hem of that first dress is brilliant!! It looks very chic, high end. I recognize that purple print, that is super nice too! If you don't like the sleeves, maybe try putting one more tie in the center of each sleeve, I think it would control seeing the inside of the sleeve. I actually do like that dress also very much!! I think you have another couple of wedding contenders...LOL
You could also maybe put a few silver grommets on each side of each sleeve and then lace them closed with coordinating lavender ribbon, having the bow tie just above the bottom of each sleeve where the sleeve flares :)
First off you look fabulous from your vacay!! On the slit sleeve..why not take some ribbon or lace and do some lacing? That would look super cute! Great idea to use the buttons too! Congratulations on your projects!! So happy for you!! Peace, love and light
Love the dresses, which both suit you. The first one is lovely and I love the detail of the little bow on the neck at the back and the black border at the bottom. The second dress I see where you are coming from with regard to the sleeves. However what if you lined them with the same material then you wouldn't see the reverse of the fabric? Great tip with the button placement. The sleeve cuffs I agree with you they look like they don't need interfacing. You look really well after your trip, just in time for the 'party'. Looking forward to seeing what dress you have chosen.
I love the fabric on the 8332!!! It looks so good! I bet it would be nice with tights for winter also. Have you chosen which party dress you are going to wear?
That's a great colour and style that you have on the first dress it really suits you. I'm not too sure about the sleeves on the second dress. I actually had to go back and check the pattern that you held up first because personally I think the designer should have had the split down the back of the sleeve rather than the front so that when you bend your arm the fabric opening with cater for the elbow and wouldn't look as gaping. When you loosened the cuff and you showed it hanging I got to visualise the sleeve being above the elbow with a slit from the button down to it and I thought that might look much nicer. As you know from my recent green dress experience you have just got to keep asking yourself "would I wear it if it's like this?" and try and find a way to improve it so you can at least get some wear out of it. 😉😍😘
The white print dress with the black trim (S8332) is gorgeous on you; I really think the trim makes it special. I like the purple dress (S8582) but if I had more fabric, I probably would change the sleeves out. You are a really prolific seamstress!
Hi Vivmom! Love the first dress! Very cute! I agree with you on the second dress. The sleeves that I thought would be great....they are not! No worries...enjoy your day! Xx oo
Hi Viv, nice to see you! I commented on how pretty that first dress material was a week or so ago, Looks fantastic as a dress. the Black Border Trim and Bow are a really nice touch and it makes the black pop in the dress. The second dress, I was iffy on the sleeves as well, something looked better when you untied it though. maybe you could do some sort of 3/4 sleeve or longer short sleeve ??? Only if you're considering changing it. If you Like it Definitely Keep it ; ) I'm sure ALL of us are waiting to see which dress you finally pick for the party.
Beautiful dresses Viv! I love the little bowtie detail and the contrasting hem on the first dress, just gorgeous! Great save on the sleeves by sewing buttons on them! Also, you’re fast… You just got home and made two dresses, that’s awesome! BTW, love your glowing tan! I was laughing my butt off when you said “no more party dresses“! That’s what I’m currently working on an LBD! (And I hope it works out). So have you had great weather and a good time while here in Florida!
Welcome back 😉😉😉... Well I love both dresses... And I totally dig the split sleeves.. I thought that dress was adorable.. Its different.. But I stand in horse poop all day so what do I know.. Oh wait.. I do know... ITS CUTE!!! So PBHLATTTTT😝😝😝 to everyone who said it isnt..(thats how you spell the raspberries btw) lol...😁😁😁😁😁 ... cant wait to see what party dress you're going to wear!!!!!!
ha ha Pamela bet you know. horse poop stinks and there is always alot. my neighbor has horses so I know. I also agree with you on both dresses. take the sleeves and shorten on the split sleeve dress. if you make them long sleeve and closed that would be a very dark and dreary dress so shorten and control the sleeve but still show skin. also girl do you -wear what you like and are confident in. you wear loose but you also do short to show those gorgeous gams- we all have assets we like and don't like so just do you. nothing says beautiful better than confidence - you could have on a potatoes sak but if you are confident it would be a head turner and every woman in that room would be running out to get one.
I love the both dresses and yes I agree 2nd dress spilt sleeves 🥴😬! Did you end up taking them off ? My thoughts were adding few more buttons going down but it’s just a thought don’t know if that would look good either! Love all you share thank you! I’m so glad I found your channel I’ve recommended you to 2 of my girlfriends! 👍🏽❤️
Both dresses are cute, but I adore the first one. On the second dress, if it were me, I think I might just try cutting the sleeves to make them short with just a slight split at the hem.
Hi Vivmom, loved loved #1 and on #2 I was thinking as you stood there with the slit sleeves could perhaps you tack them at the elbow so they do not fall all the way open.. hum. Anyway glad you had a nice trip to Naples!
Love the 8332 dress!! It looks great! I'm not feeling the split sleeves either. A regular sleeve (long or short) would look better or, as someone else commented, lining the split sleeve with the same or matching fabric would be better. Also like someone's suggestion of chiffon sleeves or some other type of sheer fabric.
You step looking fabulous❣ 💙 8332👍 I think chiffon for split sleeves. Please, one more party dress! The long skirt with a blouse that has a bow with long tails in the front. You mentioned it way back. I think the skirt fabric was a brown taffeta and the blouse fabric was an ivory? 😍 Our local WM just got in new "assorted" (mystery) $2.50 fabrics. I could not contain myself. Beautiful!! I'm sure Wm has had an unexplained uptick in fabric sales (😉all thanks to VivMom😍😎)
I love the first dress, 8332. I love the fabric, love the trim, and it looks great on you. I don't think I like the sleeves on the second dress. Glad you're back safe and sound.
The dress from the matte jersey is sooooo adorable! It looks so comfy and the fabric is perfect for the style! I do like the 8582 slit sleeve but like you said, the interfaced cuff is way too stiff looking. I think it would look better w/o the interfacing. Well, live and learn--lol You are going to have to get a portable sewing machine for your next trip, so that you can sew while gone--lol Don't tell your hubby that I said that--:)
I really love 8332 dress, the other one, don't like the sleeves. You are beautiful, so no matter what you wear, it will look great. I'm going to get Simplicity 8332 as soon as the patterns go on sale at work. Thanks for sharing.
Love the first dress. I agree with you about the sleeves on the second it is just an idea but do you think they would look better with the split at the back. I am sure you will come up with something for it.
Love the first dress , the bow and trim are perfect, gotta make one!! Almost feel the need to line the sleeves on the 2nd..which will then make them heavy..hmmm loved the fabric , tho.
Hello Sweetie, Glad u r back safe and sound . I bet yr hubby is jealous of yr sewing machine 🤪! I like the first dress better . I prefer a V neck on you and the sleeves on the second dress are not as sexy as I thought they would be . Enjoy yr day 😘
You look great in the first dress. I've been enjoying your videos.Thank you. For the 2nd dress, I agree with the idea of spacing buttons or just a little equally divided hand stitching to make less of an opening. I bought the Simplicity pattern 8332. I'm new to sewing garments and you said it was a simple one to make. So, I'm diving in. Sewing knits with stretch will be a new challenge. Getting the size right seems more daunting than the sewing. Any tips for sewing 97% Rayon and 3% Spandex? What thread do you use?
both dresses are adorable!! When I saw the 2nd dress, the first thing I thought of was that the sleeves would look good in a matching chiffon fabric... I like the quirky wide cuff but maybe a softer interfacing ??
Hello Viv. I've been watching your videos for several weeks now. Nice to meet you! I don't like the split sleeves. Because you can see the other side of the fabric and I just don't like split sleeves. Thanks for the fashion show and your opinion of each dress. Be well.🥰
Hi Rita! Oh I HATED that dress!! I cut the sleeves off and it was a tad better, but honestly the fabric was just too cheap... sometimes things just don’t work, but doggedly onward we go! Thanks for writing!
I like both of those dresses. They look really nice on you too. As far as the sleeves go , would you be able to sew a thin panel of lace connecting the sleeve openings?
Love the dresses! On the second dress, I think I'd like it better with a short sleeve. If you have two more buttons, I'd leave a little bit of the slit and add the second button at the hem. Love the fabric on both.
I love the cute little bow on the back! So cute!
Forgot to put them in and I want to do that next time (pattern is drafted without them.)😄
Love the fabric, your 1st dress is made in....8332 pattern looks absolutely amazing on you....
I love both of the dresses. They look great on you! I LOVE the split sleeves!
This is a great idea! put the same buttons over the tacked spots! Cute!
Really good idea
Love the 8332, great fabric too. So cute with the bow.
I love this look. You look fabulous in it
Hi Vivmom. Love 8332 on you! I can't wait to see the dress that you chose for the party! Have a great time!!!
the second dress look very unique, a party dress! don't rid of it it suits you, I wouldn't have thought it a day dress more of like I said party style, new years year maybe !
I love the party dress talk. What's more fun to choose and make than a party dress?
You know, you are like a chemist with your creations. Look at what you do. Lengthening the dress with trim; it's like heirloom sewing. This is beautiful!!! You look amazing in this dress!!!
Girl you ROCK 8332 ! Gorgeous fabric choice & the hem border & bow take this adorable frock to the top !
First dress is super cute… love the fabric… 😀
I love the first dress - I think it’s the fabric that really looks very complimentary and comfortable. Great job again!
Good job. They look nice on you. Adding the border to the first dress was a smart move. Very cute
Love your Dresses! Both are darling! I must say you are a excellent seamstress ! You are going to have to decide on which one YOU love best! I’m still thinking of how much I loved your reversible black dress! 😍
I love the first dress by the way and very good trim idea for length and design.
Love these dresses... thanks for showing us....
I just found your channel tonight. Wow your dresses look amazing! You are giving me some great ideas.
I love that 1st dress! Looks great.

Thanks so much, traci!🌺
Good to see you back. You’re right about the sleeves though, they need to go!
Cute dresses! I was going to buy that fabric from fabric mart but I was unsure about the print. It looks wonderful on you! I’m glad you feel great in that dress.

Love the first dress. It’s darling. I would cap the sleeve on the second.
Great idea with the button detail to cover the pivot point . i prefer the white/turquoise and black dress
I LOOOOVE it! The kimono dress looks absolutely really good on you. Stunning!
I love you soooo much. You are so real! Honesty is your best quality. Lol

Lovely dresses. It’s a pitty the split sleeve has no print on the inside but it’s a nice idea 💡. Love your work . ❤️❤️🌹🙋🏼♀️

Aww thanks Julie! I’ve just refashioned the purple dress with the awful sleeves. Look for it in my February Makes...coming soon!😄👌
I love those sleeves....something different

Loved the first dress.
😉😍😘
Love the first dress 💕
Love the black bow at the back neckline on the first dress
Thanks so much!😃
I loved them on you. I would put a couple more buttons matching along the sleeve line to close it off partially but still keeping the design feature
Xx oo
Love, love, love the first dress. Don't care for the second. But might be better with spaced closures with more buttons.
Party dresses are very pretty.♥️
Thanks!💕
I love this dress on you. Really suits you. The first one.
The second one, maybe the cuffs without the interfacing in.
Love the first dress! The second one, I still like the sleeves. I don’t know the solution but they are unique.😀
You step looking fabulous❣
💙 8332👍 I think chiffon for split sleeves. Please, one more party dress! The long skirt with a blouse that has a bow with long tails in the front. You mentioned it way back. I think the skirt fabric was a brown taffeta and the blouse fabric was an ivory? 😍
Our local WM just got in new "assorted" (mystery) $2.50 fabrics.
Love Simplicity # 8332!!! Gonna have to get!!!
Love the first dress , the bow and trim are perfect, gotta make one!! Almost feel the need to line the sleeves on the 2nd..which will then make them heavy..hmmm loved the fabric , tho.
Hello Sweetie,
Glad u r back safe and sound .
I bet yr hubby is jealous of yr sewing machine 🤪!
I like the first dress better . I prefer a V neck on you and the sleeves on the second dress are not as sexy as I thought they would be .
Enjoy yr day 😘
i absolutely love it I am going to check out the pattern !
Go melanie!! I hope you love it.😄👍
You look great in the first dress.
I love the two dresses.
Very nice style in you!
I like both of those dresses. They look really nice on you too. As far as the sleeves go , would you be able to sew a thin panel of lace connecting the sleeve openings?
Love that too
