For many of these skills, the projectiles simply return normally, which is good for clearspeed with stuff like Lightning Trap with Pierce, but most seem unreliable because of the random direction. IMO, the best use for this is with skills that shotgun. For those of you that don't know, only projectiles that expire and produce a secondary effect, like an explosion, can shotgun. You can't hit the same enemy with more than 1 GMP Fireball projectile, but the explosions can overlap and damage the same enemy multiple times. For example, if you use Caustic Arrow with GMP and fire at your feet, the 5 overlapping explosions will damage the same enemy 5 times. With Nimis, this is doubled to 10 explosions, as it explodes at the end of the travel, and again at the end of the return. This requires standing directly on top of the enemy, but 10x damage is 10x damage. Caustic Arrow is unique in that it explodes both times (and every time it pierces a target, etc). Every other skill will only explode at your location, but that's still convenient. The skills I could see that shotgun in this way are: Caustic Arrow, Shattering Steel, Tornado Shot (to little benefit), Ice Shot, Essence Drain, and Fireball. EDIT: Someone pointed out Kinetic Blast. Sounds really good. Rolling Magma looks interesting as well.
I ran the divergent lightning trap last league and as soon as I heard about this gem I knew it would work well with it. Opens up an amulet spot since the divergent gem pretty much required a good ashes.
SST, Wild Strike, Vaal Caustic Arrow, Ice Spear, Frostbolt seem the most interesting to me. Lightning Trap could be huge as well (also love the spectral helix interaction lmao)
This is nice for clear but most laikly will fuck up single target dmg. From what i see to get max singletarget dmg you woud need to be exacly at the top of the boss witch is suecidal in many cases...
how do the projectiles react if you're moving around? can you accumulate a cloud of projectiles if they're slow and you run around with them or do they hit a cap and disappear?
@@lostinthesoup No idea, but it can only be one of 2 ways. Either it returns to the spot where it was fired, or where the subject firing it (in this case its you, since totems and trap/mines dont move) is located when the projectile starts returning.

Spark seems weird to me. I noticed that not all projectiles return to you or am I mistaken? The one that shoots out at the bottom left of the screen for example.
Spark and Frost Blades seem like a bug. In the case of Tornado Shot, it's interesting that the primary projectile returns, which makes Nimis not useful for that. It would be important to know if the returning projectiles can shotgun.

If it works like vengeant cascade, it hit and create new AOE when coming back When vengeant + hydrosphere was usable, it was actually more powerfull than power siphon for solo target dps ( cause it had twice the AOE on enemy hit + aoe on hydrosphere hit, sadly they killed the build with the changes )
It seems to be working with projectiles that do not get "spent" on hit. Or maybe the implementation of the item needs more work. Like spectral helix return should be helical as well, maybe...

So return just plain doesn't function with projectiles that expire at their max distance. Didn't know icicle mine was included in that...... I had been hopping to use shrapnel ballista totems with it, but seems its merked. shattersteel has a quirky interaction with it, but I think the skill still can't shotgun anymore. Likely doesn't work with holy flame totem then either..... Wonder how voidfletch would behave?

6:28 Blazing Salvo definitely returns. I even made a meme build with my Archmage and it did tons of damage in single target. Not sure why it behaves differently in this showcase video. Considering this comment is left 1 year after this video was initially posted, there's probably some changes made during this period of time.
the initial patch to the 2nd patch saw a lot of huge changes for return proj interactions. anything ground targeted did not return on release but did the patch after. anything infinite distance doubled its return distance in the second patch as well unfortunately.
How does this interact with remaining chains, fork and pierce? Cobra lash has innate chain, could that be why it did not return? Do projectiles return through all enemies even if there is no pierce left? Overall looks like ground targeting projectiles and mine/totem/ballista skills seem not to return. And skills only fire in random directions when self cast. Standout for me are creeping frost and steel skills. Depending on how the return is influence by chain and pierce this could also be great for ice shot, lightning arrow and SST. Super interesting item, great addition to the game.
I’m curious about its interaction with SST. When you cast hydrosphere and threw it, did it double hit? Could you do a golden rule self poison test? If my target has snipers mark on it will all the shield projectiles return? This would effectively make each new projectile 100% added damage effectiveness. SST is one of my favorite skills so I’m deeply interested. I haven’t have the time to farm enough for Nimis because of kids and holidays, but if it has some kind of great interaction with SST I could muster the willpower.

It doesn't work with rolling magma though (only the "random direction" part works, but just use sire of shards for coverage).
It's neat that the random directions works on each bounce, maybe that mechanic itself could help with ST

Capped. Projectiles are always by distance travelled then disappear once it meets the travel distance cap or an object, scaled by projectile speed

Spark is intended and Fb is just not playtested enough, or tested and it deal insane damage so prevented on arrival

Divergent Lightning trap can return. There are already some guides for it for quite some time. It is pretty strong.

Rolling magma was magma orb, so you can now Morb all over the enemies.
Rolling magma seems to be able to get some nice overlap.
