- Apparently this Beef Stew MRE was brought back state side when Operation Desert Storm came to an end. The former owner found it along with half a case of other Meals Ready to Eat after some US soldiers departed the plane he was working on. This ration must have been stored exceptionally well because the condition was amazing for food over 36 year old. Truly a vintage brown bag treat!!

Just amazing that these rations keep so long... loved the freeze dried fruits , the cakes and the decent coffee....it wasn't all bad ... btw. I am a brit , we used to trade rations with the US troops on maneuvers in Germany...many fond memories...Great reviews and keep up the good work...all the best from North Germany

The freeze dried pears were great in the 80s. I was just a kid playin in then woods my uncle gave me his leftover MRE's

Between beef stew and the spaghetti MREs were my favorites back in the Army days.

My first hitch was USAF 1976-1980 in CONUS. Second hitch was US Navy 1980-1986 mostly shipboard. So never had the experience of trying MREs, though did try C-rats a couple times. This MRE dates from the year after I got out of the service, all these decades ago. Don't know if I'd want to try one that old. I've ordered MREs from about the early 2010s and up. Had mixed results.😊

Tried eating one of these vintage MREs back in the 00s and it was a disaster. You eating it now is pure nightmare fuel.

I was in the United States Marine Corps during operation desert shield/storm, and I wouldn’t eat that if my life depended on it. I was leery about eating them back then but 36 years later no thanks.😊
Wow! That one was almost as good as it was back when I ate them! The beef stew was always well liked. I actually preferred getting cheese packets in my MREs. Also you could always tell when someone was eating the cherry nut cake because the smell of cherries was pretty strong.
By far the best of the MREs out of the 80s. Beef stew, cherry cake, and cheese dip... knocked it out of the park. Weeks at a time we fought harder for this than our green eggs on Sunday. 😆
I can't believe the nuts in that cake were not rancid. Respect for you eating the cheese spread.

Nice review. I would love to get a case of the freeze dried fruits and wish they were in Canadian IMPs rather than the fresh fruit so the whole ration would last longer.

@SmittyMRE A lot of items in MREs are so amazing like baked goods from sterling foods. Why don't these companies actually market products to the general public. Not something that's close to but the actual product and not package it in retort pouches to cut costs if that's an issue.

Hi there, me again. I had one of these in the late 80's, steak 'block' I think - pretty good as I remember, though the portion was small by UK standards. By the way, I have the same LOTR poster, got it at University in the late 80's - in 30+ years, I have never seen another one!

Beef Stew, Ham Loaf, and Beans n Weenies were the best MREs. Chicken Ala King was the worst
