My Dad was born in 1933 and was drafted in 1950 or 1951 to the U.S. Air Force as he was in the Korean War after a little while he came back home. He was a great man, as I'm sure all who served our country are the very best. Again thank you....
It was my pleasure to serve (although at the time not always the case). I had an uncle who was a cook in Korea. Maid-Rite is an Iowa chain here. Yep, name of food and restaurant that invented them. It's loose meat. Usually beef or lean beef, mustard, pickle and sometimes diced onion. Sloppy Joe you add ketchup to the beef to make a sauce for it. Usually cheese too. Both are good. Maid-Rite restaurants all over Iowa. I like both equally. Hey chief hope all is well thanks for putting in a video while running a new business You the man!! And ace
Ohhhhh Yeahhhh!! Every day's a holiday and every meal a feast. TFW
I enjoyed the review as usual I have notifications on but haven’t received any for new videos I thought maybe you were taking a break so now I’m going to have to go through the videos to see what I’ve missed
Please enjoy the videos I have out there. I have another one I'll release on Saturday, the 30th. TFW
Thank you for your service sir 🙏
You and I share a time frame Brother. 0311 in 1980 with 2/6 and, 3/6. I was in recruit training in August 1979, graduated November 79, then to ITS then Mainside with E 2/6. STA 2/6. However, I did 20 and retired in 2000. Now Disabled and sitting at home I can watch the Channel. Semper Fi!
Integration of your personal history and stories to complement reflections on the MRE itself really render these videos fascinating.
I also appreciate your giving thanks to God, in Christ, before your meals.
Thank you for your service Marine.
Really enjoyed this video. The cheese spread looked suspicious, but, it looked like it was okay. We still have a Maid Rite restaurant in Springfield Illinois. Still serving the original recipe, tastes great. Looking forward to more videos, keep 'em coming! God bless.
I would love to drop by one day and try one. I've been thru Springfield a time or two. What's the name of your restaurant? TFW!
@@MeAncientcome back home we got one in Waterloo and cedar falls still
Awesome, Me ancient! More story telling and photos please!
More to come! TFW
Thank you for your service 🫡🇺🇸 And for making great content!!
I would sit for hours just enjoying your beautiful stories about you in Beirut. The plaque is still on the American University of Beirut (AUB). I was not in Lebanon in the 80s, but would you share why American soldiers were in Lebanon?
We have a made right here in Greenville Ohio as well. Does that Maid-Rite have a big Jim sandwich?
Its always a good day when you upload a video ...take care brother, your friend from Canada
Thank you for those kind words. Stay out of the way of the fires, my friend. TFW
Sloppy Joe sounds quite nice 👍 not heard of it before with being the other side of the pond 🇬🇧 good video as always.
Glad you enjoyed it. I would sure love to get my hands on a British MRE. I haven't been able to get anything into the US from out of country without the foxes at US Customs ransacking the good stuff out. Bums........TFW
@@MeAncientthere's a place in town a few miles from where I live where you can get them in abundance..if I ever get a hold of one I'd happily send one over to you.
@@fatty3383 I love the idea.....however, the US Customs always steals every good thing out of them when they come from overseas. If they go through Kennedy, and most of them do, the agents there ravage anything that's good. I get the meals all ransacked. It makes me angry on the one hand and upset for the kind people who spent their hard earned money on MREs to send to me only to have them unusable when they arrive.
@@MeAncientthat's a shame..I'm not surprised you get annoyed...I think I certainly would be as well.
Howdy Amigo! I have seen the Maid Rite shop, on Food Network. I like this menu. Yours looked excellent. I thought the cheese was dark however. I am glad you enjoyed. Peace from Ky. , John.
Sharp cheddar, for sure. TFW, John
I was in BCT at Ft. Leonard Wood Mo. back in late 2013 and ate MREs quite often, my favorite one was Cheese tortellini. And loved the Jalapeño Cheese Spread. We bartered for that shit. 🤣 and I can assure you. There is something funky with that cheese spread you just squeezed on that tray. Lol ooof.
I think some other commenters were right....the meal was from 2010, not 2020. The cheese sure tasted 'sharp.' TFW, Cory
It used to come with tortillas and cheese spread. My favorite MRE! I still recreate them occasionally.
I love your stories Ancient
Thank you for that and TFW!
I live in iowa the maid rite is a staple for sure!! Where did you grow up around?
Marion. How about you? TFW
I just want to let you know I love you for your service and sacrifice for our country and I appreciate you God bless
My pleasure and I hope you enjoy the videos. TFW
I love your story’s that you tell in the videos plz plz plz do a separate video for your story’s my favorite ones are your gurneys in Beirut
Btw I live in Beirut
Wow! I hope it's has become more politically and socially stable that when I was there. It's amazing to see the resiliency in the human spirit when I look at my old pix and see all the commerce and life that continued despite the battles raging all around. TFW, Asaad.
I remember mre's from my father. I loved them as a kid hiding in my fort. We didn't have much but mre's to me were awesome with my camo everything. I want to buy some. Any recommendations? Love your videos. Thank you for your service. God bless you and yours
You are welcome regarding the service. It was my pleasure. I get some of my MREs on eBay. I got that one at a military surplus store in Iowa. You should be able to hunt one up by searching online. TFW
Bless you Sir bless you
Thank you, Kona! TFW
When I was a young kid in Iowa my grandmother worked at a Maid-Rite. I have good memories of my dad coming home on his lunch break and taking me up to see grandma at work and get a Maid-Rite for lunch.
That's cool. Great memories.....TFW!
When talking about heating rations Back In The Day, you forgot to mention the C-ration stove; a hexamine tablet in a can with holes punched around the bottom with a John Wayne opener! Semper Fi, Ye Olde Salt!!
It's also fun to see how many MRE components were carried straight over from the C-rations (officially, MCI or Meal, Combat, Individual)
I live in Iowa. Where are you from ? My dad was in vietnam. Would love to meet you. I love the old maid rite cafes! Thanks for your channel. Love it!
Wazzup uncle ancient, ran into you in maui couple years back. Mahalo for the sick video🤙🏽
Aloha, once again, Kenneth. Hopefully we see each other again. What part of Maui was it? TFW
Can you recharge the oxygen packs? So you can use them in caning in jars?
8 years in the army loved MRE's so much better then the old field rations
I subbed instantly when I say yall pray.
I was in Beirut at that time on the USS Puget Sound AD-38.
2:36 I always thought the heater bag was more a chemical reaction that causes heat then a battery 🔋 but that cool to know
That's how it was explained to me anyway. It makes sense as to if you put too much water in it then the reaction is 'shorted out.' TFW, Quinn.
Great video! Thank you
Glad you liked it! TFW
You should write a book with your stories. It will be a pleasure reading it 😊
You are too kind. TFW
I use to love these. Haven’t eaten it since 2013 lol
