      I haven’t had this issue with a GBC ever, but if it did happen you would need to figure out which pixels were dead and find the right traces to reflow (the GBC has got a lot more going into it than a DMG or Pocket)

      @@gameboysinthewild yeah it is weird. A block of lines are black and another block is slightly orange tinted.

    Nice tutorial, does not work for me but with some pressure and some tape works also good. Just one question: What about screen cancer? That bleeding that appears on the edge of the screens.

    Another question. Could it be a difference between a us and European released pocket? I have an additional protective screen that covers the connections so I can't go in and solder them 😅😑

    I have dmg01 and 4 pockets I'm in the process of fixing before selling. Hopefully I'll be able to fix all of them.
    Have you ever come across a dmg01 screen that looks like it's shifted to the side? Is that just a dead pixel?

  • @LRM12o8

    Well, that's neat. I figured I need to reflow my screen, but I reflowed the wrong contacts,the bottom ones on the brown ribbon cable, which had no effect. Then I realised that pressing on the back of the ribbon cable makes the black lines disappear and ended up putting three layers of double-sided foam adhesive tape on the mainboard below the screen, which bends the ribbon cable upwards in a way that makes all those traces connect again.
    So far, it's been working perfectly, but I'll save this video in case any line shows up again. I guess a heatgun would work even better for reflowing those tiny contact, right? My soldering station has one.

    I was trying to remove the screen to reflow it like this, and asked my wife to help. She accidentally twisted it the wrong way and there was a sudden sharp POP! and the screen went completely black. I thought it was ruined, but when I backed off the contest wheel, the streaks were gone from the screen and it was displaying perfectly

  • @ljwhitmire200

    OK, I just got a GBP. The screen appears to work well. The Nintendo logo comes down but it's a solid black bar like was showing on this one at around 4:56. But after you put this one back together, the Nintendo logo appears normal? I've been out of gaming for a long time, so please be gentle. Maybe I'm doing something stupid, but my GBP never seems to get past the solid Nintendo logo. It does make a sound when the logo drops. That's about it. I've tried multiple sets of batteries, BUT they are all from the same pack, so that could be an issue. Thanks for the great video!
    Another clue: I got a dc adapter for the car with it, so I tried it. The connection seems iffy at best. Now the black bar logo is a random mix of characters and then continuously reboots. I'll go buy some brand new batteries tomorrow morning and see if that helps.

    • @ljwhitmire200
      @ljwhitmire200 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      An update in case anyone has any ideas: fresh, brand new batteries and it's still showing a black bar for the Nintendo logo and just reboots if you hit any buttons. Sure the previous owner could have lied about it working, but it seems like it should be something simple if there are any ideas out there! :)

    • @asherael
      @asherael 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ljwhitmire200 if you're struggling you can use a card to stick paper or fabric into the connector slot, or clean a cartridge super good and slide that in and out several times to clean it
