naw man, check out some of these mental classical cats. Deborah Richtmeyer and a few others are just completely bananas, but for jazz guys, Chris is it.
No doubt, great player, great chops, but to me 'technique' goes well beyond that.. I don't think there will every be anyone that surpasses what Trane did in his (short) lifetime. Consummate control of the axe, pure emotion, and absolute committment. Plus he ALWAYS played the blues...
I love Chris style and timing, particular 7-8 min. It would take me 3 hours practice a day to do ONE of his 64note licks, but he wills string together 20
Joshua Bell the violinist was part of a social experiment like that in the DC subway. Google it, it’s fascinating! Most people don’t realize, and it shows how much social context-venue, expectations, attire, etc-play a role in our experience of “art.”
He’s been a bad cat ever since I can remember. I remember late nights at the Mill hearing him battle for hours on end playing every single lick in the book and still not repeating one thing but playing in his own unique way. This is how everyone who aspires to play should play. I love to hear his thoughts in motion. I can’t ever remember him playing anything that didn’t impress me on another level.
His sound is so enormous! Unreal. I played once with him with the big band at UT. I thought the band was so loud, and then he came in and literally filled the entire room with his sound on top of the 18 piece band!!
Patrick Gampp I know this is late, but he doesn’t look for better improvisers, he looks for different improvisers. Anything that’s different from his style is something he can learn and incorporate
Every time I hear Chris play it just inspires me to practice more, play more and just listen more....Thanks Chris
Real art, what an amazing player ...totally on another level
man, wish I could meet Chris or take a lesson. So talented & humble. Thanks for sharing your music.
Best now living tenorplayer in the world without a doubt.
Truttakungen nearly right .but I think Joel Frahm is right up there with him
Him and Joshua Redman are some of my favorites
Sonny is still alive...
@@rillloudmother died in ‘82
@@dylankubilus1422 yeah, little bird.
4:42 made me look up from studying and go "yeah" aloud in the library
Perhaps the finest saxophone technique on this planet. Ever. I think so.

Rollins is still alive, man.

Selmerpilot Get the hell out of here. No way deborah can conceptualize and execute the shit Chris is.
agree, but as far as pure technique is concerned many modern classical players have equivalent or greater technical acumen.
beautiful and colourful!
My dream level of playing...
Stunningly creative with the chops to pull it off. In a class of his own.
Somebody grab that fire extinguisher lol beast mode
Really good!!! This is Incredible!

Just as good today🎵🎶🎵🎷
It would be cool to see him play on the streets like this. Who would recognize his art?

Gorgeous tone!
Chris che punto di riferimento in questo momento caotico grazie mille 🙏
9:02 , 9:39 & 11:23 there you have it.
Sami Leponiemi hahaha "the lick"
Le Lick :|
Nothing at 9:02 or 9:39 and I love Chris just literally nothing more awesome than he already plays happened at all
excellent
💙💙💙💙
9:04 the lick - lol
markviman hahahaha I watched that video it is insane how many people use this without knowing it
lol - I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that he knew that he played it.
Haha true
I just mean like it's insane how when you hear something, your brain is automatically influenced to use it in the future
Or in my case, I have to actually practice it non-stop. Then I get angry at myself for becoming a lick player. ARGHGGHGHGH!!!
WoW!
Best comment on TH-cam ever
GOD

9:39 The Lick
Edit: Another one at 11:23
nos ¨cascos¨.
ASTOUNDING!
Good thing he has a great sound, because his technique is lost on most people.
If you were a musician, you wouldn't say that.

Amazing stuff. But I'd like to hear some dynamics here.
check out pretty much any of his albums
Скрипу и визгу много. Много слушать невозможно
I don't know, he should pay for lesson's before going out in public like that again.
hes obviously being sarcastic, no one can listen to this and think that he needs lessons lol
Just imagined how Chris learns nowadays, it's hard to find better improvisers on this planet.
Patrick Gampp I know this is late, but he doesn’t look for better improvisers, he looks for different improvisers. Anything that’s different from his style is something he can learn and incorporate
lmao, thank you
He should be prosecuted for musical abuse.
