I'm 18 and I've been thinking about death since at least 12. Seeing this is a nice comfort, ideas of how I can accept death rather than keep fearing it.
Yes. I'm almost 18 and have also been thinking about it for a long time. Death is inevitable and cannot be changed, however, our stance on death can. I have both accepted death and feared it in the past. I find death acceptance isn't a permanent thought. For me, it'll eventually turn into fear again. But I gain peace in knowing that there's nothing wrong with that. The moments of clarity I have regarding death inform my other emotions and thoughts. So even if I can only accept death in some moments while I fear it some others, I gain wisdom and a growing sense of contentment.
Michael should look at organic burial pod options. I think it's an amazing idea to become the source of life for a tree. Also it's a really cool landmark for family to visit.

I just imagined the mortician lady continue the expression on her face, pull a gun out from under the table, shoot him and then stare into the camera maintaining her smiling expression...
I've been dealing with death a lot as a 22 year old. Nobody has died around me but just the realization that I'm going to be in a moment like this one looking through my eyes and thinking internally and it's gonna be the moment when I take my last breath and everything will fade away I assume. I don't know how to even think about what it will look like after that. After it all goes black or after I fall asleep or whatever it feels like in that moment. It's terrifying. That moment haunts me and it's never even happened yet. Everything I've ever known and experienced will just not be anymore. No more internal dialogue, no more dreams, no more love or anger, or pain or happiness. My atoms will fall apart and turn into nothing again. How am I supposed to even deal with that? It's an endless cycle that I can't come to terms with. I also disagree with that lady when she said that death brings life meaning. I'm haunted by that moment, yes, but it's not why I'm thinking right now. It's not why I'm getting up and feeding myself right now. It's not why I'm wanting to feel sunlight right now. It's the utter absence of all of those things. how am I not supposed to be upset that I won't get to experience those things anymore?
Exactly. The thing that has helped me the most to cope with these same thoughts is the sentiment she kinda touched on with "Living as long as i can till technology saves me" because i doubt ill live long enough to see technology reach that point even if im cryo frozen. What i take from that statement tho is something that ive already told myself many times and its the thought that even tho that moment will come, im going to keep going out of spite. To say fuck you, ill last as long as i want to and im going to keep running every time the reaper is close because i know eventually itll catch me. But that doesn't mean i have to let it win till it has to. While this thinking doesn't help everyone it has certainly helped me. Especially with making decisions in my life and teaching me what i really want from this existence. Each moment im not true to what i really want from this life is a moment wasted. And i wont let the reaper win by lettin me waste more time stressing about its inevitable arrival.

Michael: "I could die at any time" Lady: *smiles* "you sure could!" Micheal: "I've decided I want to die" Lady: "oh I'm so glad you made that decision" I think she wants him to die
@@ileikts I know the comment was made in humor, but the lady did have a clear bias towards coming to that conclusion from her earlier segment. Good times! Michael rocks!
A bit late on this video, and this comment. When I think about death I relate it to my (at the time) life long best friend that passed abruptly when we were 18. I remember how absolutely gutted I was, how unfair it felt etc etc. Now many years later, I can't help but think about how full those 18 years were. When I compare it to my own life, even with all these extra years I've lived passed him my life still feels less full than he had with much less time. It's hard to always keep perspective on this, but living hundreds of years of working a job that doesn't fulfill you will never be as meaningful as living 18 full of love and adventures, and I think without death lurking around the corner for us all, we'd never care enough to give that love or spend the time needed to make life worth it. I hope you find your transcendent purpose so you don't feel the need to ever press that button.
Hmm, Though i want both, to be fulfilled and live long and more, The unfulfilling life is the result of a system that demands efficiency and exploitation over sentient decency. An emphatiless system..., so if one wants to work, try to work on a more human centric company or people hehehe This reality has a lot more to offer, I don't think about death nor does it motivate me to do meaningful stuff. Those things are meaningful by themself. We are the ones that gives meaning to the meaningless. I want to experience an era where we can save the sun, and put a tracker on consciousness... an era of rejuvinators, so we can even save even those who have died, and of ressurectors The mark of a non-ideal civilization is deaths and suffering, so the mark of an advanced civilization would be the reverse of that, Even if we can't act. We are the witnessers, and I wanna witness more Let's see if a pure consciousness can insert itself into this universe, a unientity. I hope you all have a fulfilling life and more
i know comparing this topic to works of fiction might be a little insensitive, but all i can think of is a part of the sandman comics. a man named hob declares that he won’t die because he’s just decided that he won’t. Dream overhears this and gets Death to allow him to keep living. every 100 years Dream meets back up with Hob to see how he is and if he still wants to keep living. No matter how miserable or unfulfilling a life hob lives between those meetings, he always says that he wants to keep on living. it’s the first time in any media where a character has been faced with eternity and decided to keep living. it’s hard to think about whether or not i’d be the same.
I’ve got to be honest, the theory is honestly completely opposite of what my personal experience has been. I used to be very judgmental and harsh on a certain group of people who I have extremely different opinions with, and I used to want all sorts of bad things to happen to them. Not death or torture, but being ostracized, treated differently, instilled with fear and terror, etc. Once I had my own months-long death scare (extremely health anxiety and frequent panic attacks, nothing’s actually wrong with me thankfully) I began to have a change in attitude, wishing to treat them equally and not wanting anything bad to happen to anyone. Because as Megatron said when he disbanded the Decepticons, “I now know the true meaning of oppression, and have thus lost my taste for inflicting it”.

The thing that scares me is that is the person that comes back to life really you? I mean is it you? Or does the person that came back just has your memories and personalities? The worst thing this dilemma is that no one will ever know and they will just have to assume that they are you.
@@Max.pina1511 That's what bugged me as well. Maybe when "you" die, you die for good, and the person that is revived in the future is your clone in a way.
seeing people say this gave them comfort just confuses me, only because I’m so terrified of the idea of death. Recently it’s come to my mind a lot, i often find myself having a laugh or a good time only to remember this sad fact. Is it bad that i want to stay? is it bad that i don’t want to go indefinitely? I wish this wasn’t a truth of life or something to accept as i feel i can’t accept it. i’ve heard different perspectives and have talked to many people who i feel are wise enough, but that doesn’t change the fact that one day i will dissipate from what i once was. i tried not crying multiple times this video over it as it’s just been such a tough topic for me. regardless i just hope everyone here finds the comfort i haven’t and i hope i can find as well (sorry i just had to vent somewhere).
I think one thing people find comforting about the video is that this is something every person grapples with. You aren't alone in your anxieties. It can be scary, and that's okay. There a couple of things I would suggest that might help you, because they've helped me, but if they don't that's okay as well. Remember that even if someone else's ideas don't work for you, that doesn't mean they don't understand. You aren't alone. The first thing I would recommend, particularly for the moments where anxiety is particularly strong, is to ground yourself in the moment. Take a deep breath and feel that you are alive right now. You can see and feel the world around you. Your mind might keep straying to detrimental anxieties about death but try to just focus on the physicality of where you are right now. Maybe look into mindfulness techniques. This doesn't mean pushing your fear down or ignoring that death is an option, just regrounding yourself in reality when your mind starts to spiral. Second, reframing things might be useful. Death doesn't mean your existence never was. Your convinces is an emergent pattern born from the way the universe is currently ordered. You aren't the same person you were ten years ago, and you aren't the person who will be here ten years from now. Your atoms come from the universe and you are made up of the same matter as everything else. When you die, you will change. But that doesn't mean you stop existing. You will be part of this universe, your impact on places and people will shape what comes, and new things will take form. You've been stardust before and you'll be stardust again. And we'll be stardust together. Even if you won't quite be you, you won't be alone.
It would be really interesting to see a large-scale study of Terror Management Theory that looks at a lot of different angles. One of the things that I'm most curious about is how TMT applies to cultures that have differing perspectives on death. I would imagine that how someone feels about what happens to them after death would have a fairly dramatic effect on how the presence of death influences their perceptions
An interesting angle to approach this from would have been that, if this technology ever materialises, it would create a disparity of wealth like nothing ever seen before. I’m picturing an almost dystopian society where the rich live forever and the poor are left scrambling at the bottom only dreaming of what they could do with such power.
Hell with genetic engineering they could literally create a new "race" and then the fight will be over superiority. Near perfect immoral beings who enslave the system to the point of resource ruin, sounds like some dystopian warframe shit.
I’ve always thought that immortality won’t get rid of death, it’ll just add classism to it. In a way, this had already happened. I could go bankrupt if I break my arm.

Even if you cryo-preserve yourself and wake up in like 80 years or so, the horrifying truth is that you will be entering a whole another world where you will have close to zero role, your friends won't be there and neither will your family. It will be truly lonely, atleast from what I make of it. I believe that I'm in this world for a specific timeframe that is, say a hundred years, after that I am nothing but but an outsider in a new world.

I want to live until I am dying of old age. I would go on an airplane to skydive, with a parachute, after having a lovely day to send me off. I'd be given medicine that would take effect some time after I jump, shutting my systems down. I would dive, looking at the gorgeous sunlit view, admiring it in my slow death. As my eyes fade seeing the open and beloved sky. The parachute activating, landing my lifeless body once and for all.

Michael should look at organic burial pod options. I think it's an amazing idea to become the source of life for a tree. Also it's a really cool landmark for family to visit.
Sounds wonderful, the roots tangling themselves around my bones, breaking me down faster, turning me to dust, to be forgotten easier than before. Honestly, that sounds nice
Honestly my decaying body feeding a tree would be more of a use than I am right now.
Hopefully this will be considered weird by the general population within this century
@a.q.2330 What's weird about it? Literally every dead organism feeds another in some way. Why do you think corpses turn into bones? Decomposers like Fungi and Bacteria break down the soft parts of the body to sustain themselves. It's just natural.

I would prefer a button that added 100 years to my life. After that 100 years, I’d decide whether I’d press it again
Hmm, Though i want both, to be fulfilled and live long and more,
The unfulfilling life is the result of a system that demands efficiency and exploitation over sentient decency. An emphatiless system..., so if one wants to work, try to work on a more human centric company or people hehehe
This reality has a lot more to offer,
I don't think about death nor does it motivate me to do meaningful stuff. Those things are meaningful by themself. We are the ones that gives meaning to the meaningless.
I want to experience an era where we can save the sun, and put a tracker on consciousness... an era of rejuvinators, so we can even save even those who have died, and of ressurectors
The mark of a non-ideal civilization is deaths and suffering, so the mark of an advanced civilization would be the reverse of that,
Even if we can't act. We are the witnessers, and I wanna witness more
Let's see if a pure consciousness can insert itself into this universe, a unientity.

NO MORE for what?
seeing people say this gave them comfort just confuses me, only because I’m so terrified of the idea of death.

They did! And wrote a book about it! Check out The Worm at the Core: On the Role of Death in Life.
An interesting angle to approach this from would have been that, if this technology ever materialises, it would create a disparity of wealth like nothing ever seen before. I’m picturing an almost dystopian society where the rich live forever and the poor are left scrambling at the bottom only dreaming of what they could do with such power.
There’s actually a movie like that called “in time”
Hell with genetic engineering they could literally create a new "race" and then the fight will be over superiority. Near perfect immoral beings who enslave the system to the point of resource ruin, sounds like some dystopian warframe shit.

Get rid of red and get premium, get 3 months free :p
Thomas Bigalow actually, it’s only 1 month free of premium. It’s still pretty good though
@@mattball420 I pay for YT Premium and GP Music altogether for 150 MXN, about $7.50 USD monthly, and that's the family plan so I have 5 relatives and friends on it too. A bargain if you ask me.
ONLY reason I eep premium, is this series, and being able to play youtube with the screen off.

Imagine going to prison for 10 years for spray painting a statue with washable paint
that was fucked, these people are not thinking straight.
what blew my mind is the 10 years for sunbathing while nude.
@@DJVolte We will send, you, your family and your next generation to prison for life.
@@DJVolte yeh we will

You forgot the death penalty.
If you wanna live forever just say “no” when your time comes. It worked for me. That’s how I’m 409 years old.
Oh! It's an old glich im already on my 807th birthday today! Imagine dying! Lol.
You young whipper snappers !!
Only 800bc kids will remember this...
Cool shit. Love it, I'm Duncan mccloud...
In all seriousness we will die
Seeing Caitlyn get so excited to hear that Michael is willing to make choices about his death is so cool. Especially because it is exactly what she advocates for. I love her so much, she has helped me become more comfortable with death even if it still is horribly terrifying. I hope i get to meet her one day.
I agree it’s a good thing to do
The results on the woman sunbathing nude buckled me. Karen dropped a 7 and the dudes were like "I want to put 0"
yeah lol
noticed that one too right away, lol
the difference was v clear
initially i was like “psh, i’d give that a 1” and then i realized if it was a guy, i would have found it super creepy and way more inappropriate and bumped it up
internal biases baby :’)
Dang it's Verlisify
dude ur a furry, you shouldn't have an opinion.
The thing is... a person like myself, who constantly obsessive on death, and what not...I feel like Michael just helped me treat my anxiety, if even just a little.
Why are you obbsesed with death?
Same, i love dying too

can we talk about the grey haired lady in the control group that put 1 (ONE) for the FAKE DOCTOR THAT OPERATED ON SOMEONE. but put 7 (SEVEN) for a lady in nude😂😭 that made me laugh so much
LOL
What counts as a 1 through 7 varies between questions
yah, looks like people closer to their own death makes **** decisions x)
her and that other lady who went with 1 on the first slide have definitely committed crimes. Their judgements are so outlandishly stupid
Jealousy
Am I the only one who does want to die? Not right now but I can't imagine living forever. Even without the whole aging process I think 100-200 years is way more than enough. Even beyond 100 years of healthy happy life it's getting absurd. I'm a scientist and the biggest and saddest realization is to know I will die not knowing a billionth of what there is to know. But without a deadline there is no drive to move forward. and I'd prefer a short life of knowledge than an eternity of ignorance
Boy:(cries)
Michael: what's wrong?
Boy: my grandpa died
Michael: ...BUT WHAT IS DEATH?
And how much does death.....weigh?
*cue music
And starts making video on his funeral 😂
And then there's 4 seconds clip of him, visiting the grandpa's funeral in Egypt
Or did he ? *music starts*
