yes !! I’m glad you pointed out Kolecki! it’s so fun to watch him and other lifters come to MMA and display how important the strength training side of MMA is and how beneficial it can be! Would love for you to make an MMA specific lifting program video someday 🙏
As someone who actively searches for old clips of people running, lifting, jumping, etc., I always find it fascinating stumbling upon an iconic feat of athleticism that has like a couple hundred views on TH-cam. It's hella refreshing that people that have access to such old clips are willing to share it with the rest of the world to hopefully stumble upon one day. It's like you're digging up a time capsule at times lol.
Ngl Zack I came here for the training footage! Rest day is soon over and I will be heading to the gym first thing in the morning. Let's get it lads and lasses!
Love how the look on your face is 100% genuine when discussing the natural strength increase from 2004-2008. I can’t believe how much stronger he got naturally either! What a blessing for the natty world!
Dude is a beast, 185 cm height ( 6’1) btw, unfortunately after peaking at 17-18 years old, never was able to hit those numbers again mainly due back injuries (couple surgeries as well) that were chasing him entire wl career, but still dominated European championships thru the 2000s
You know what? I've been a member of the Not-Subscribed-Club for the longest time now. My YT algorithm is being well fed - much like yours is probably Zack. Have watched like 80% of your last ~30 videos but moving the mouse to that red button was never within my caloric allowance for the day, sorry bout that! This video finally made me click it. Really well done.
You were born to just narrate things for us 9-5'ers. Love your content man, keep it up. I grew up with all the Crouser's, it was fun to see you shoutout Ryan!
In the September 1999 Milo magazine there is a interview with Kolecki after winning the 99 junior worlds in which he stated his best c+j in training was 230 while his best front squat was only 235.
Kolecki has been my hero since I started lifting 10 years ago. I got curious about the 232kg record that Ilyin broke in London. Discovered Kolecki's insane career in sports and have been hooked ever since. His style of lifting has always struck me as so efficient and unique. I love seeing the way he does the jerk too.
I find it funny that the dynamic start in the snatch came up… I always struggled a lot with my snatch. But yesterday, for some reason i started my snatch with a dynamic start without realizing it. Suddenly it felt really easy. I guess it might be because I watched one of your lifting videos just before going to the gym. If that’s the case, i just want to thank you. It’s like something just clicked in my mind and I finally got it.
The best strength athlete is Mark Henry • Current All-time drug-tested raw (unequipped) Powerlifting Total World Record holder at 2,336.9 lb (1,060.0 kg) • Olympic Weightlifter with total 400 kg (180 kg /200 kg), American champion. • Arnold Strongman Classic - Winner 2002.
Szymon = Simon. First thing that comes to my mind is to pronounce "Sz" like in the beggining of "sharp". Cant explain how polish pronouncenation of y sounds. Google translate did a good job if u type Szymon/Simon in polish/english translator. Your videos recently are gold! :)
Kołecki was a total beast, but he spent most of his professional career on surgeries and recovering from either back or knee injuries, mostly due to bad coaching at some point as he claims. You should check his story about getting a silver in Sydney 2000 - he could easily get the gold, but due to an argument with coach which caused him to be nervous he missed his heaviest lift which was few kgs lower from he was lifting during trainings. Fun fact, Kołecki and Asanidze are great friends till this day, which he mentioned during commenting 2022 EWC.
16:50ish, wow.... I'm impressed you actualy know what tf you''re talking about. That uchi with the overhook definently my favorite counter in the universe
@Zack Telander, Kakhi was Georgian, competed and won gold in Barcelona 92 for the Unified Nations(ex CCCP), competed for Georgia for some time and then changed to Greece, winning gold again in Atlanta 96 and Sidney 2000..didnt total at Athens 2004. You got it wrong regarding Szymon doing more weight at the 2008 Olympics, he snatched 179 and jerked 224,in Sidney as a 18 year old he snatched 182.5kg , jerked 222.5,injuring his ankle with 227,which took him out of competition, he was routinely doing 230 in training. Kakhi was also injured at the time. Georgi, Kakhi and Szymon had the same Georgian coach at some time, Ivan Grikurovi, who recently passed away.
Couldn’t agree more with the TH-cam stuff. Never owner a netflix account or whatever for regular watching, youtube is the only thing I have been watching since 2012 and there’s literally everything on here
As a shot put and discus thrower myself I feel the same way about TH-cam, a large portion of my TH-cam channel and what I post online is stuff I found in random videos TH-cam that were poorly labeled and I bring them to a larger audience. I try to show all the old throwers who built my sport and pay tribute to them. I couldn’t do that without TH-cam because back in the day it was 8mm films and vhs tapes you could buy from track and field magazine or someplace like that and even then it was hard to find. Or it was a world record filmed by one guy that no one ever saw and just happened to upload to TH-cam decades later without realizing how great the footage is.
You don’t use this letter from our Polish alphabet, so you won’t be able to say it correctly without breaking your tounge, but I think that your pronauciation as non-native speaker is spot on Zack!
TH-cam über alles! Btw Rogan would presumably not have ordered the tapes from “some random website” but rather from a paper catalog or through a store with connections. You gotta turn the clock back a bit farther!
Is there any way you could do an analysis of his jerk? What makes it work so well with such a narrow grip? He’s so lanky for such a narrow grip, is it just that his upper body is so strong that he benefits from using arms earlier? I’m 6’5 myself and find a wider grip awful, but maybe I just suck.
If only TH-cam wasn’t so politicized in their subjective enforcement of “community guidelines.” They are losing a huge number of channels and subscribers for systematically banning guntubers.
The late Marvin Eder. Probably the last "Ironman" of the past century (in weight lifting, were called ironmen, exceptional athletes who excelled in these 3 disciplines: Bodybuilding, Weightlifting and Powerlifting). He was arguably the strongest man in the world after Doug Hepburn and Paul Anderson whose bodyweight exceeds well over 300 pounds. Pound for pound; at a bodyweight just under 200 pounds, Marvin Eder is probably the strongest man in human history.
Zack, 1st thing is that Szymon has totaled 177,5/235 in 94 as 18 y.o. He never ever reach that level due the injures of back. In Bejing he did 179/224kg so its quite less than his peak. 2st thing is that 2004 doping case was won by Kolecki. Wada threeshold for nandrolone was very small, and today with limit 2 nanograms/ml he would pass the test. And later they said that nandrolone was produced by his body not from injecting deca. He was suspended for methadienone at very Young age, but all that 2004 stuff was bullshit.
When things become a big part of our lives, they probably go into the unconscious and we take them for granted. I guess TH-cam is at that point already.
"Shimon Kowetzki" seems to be the closest you can get to a proper pronunciation. I'll bet you wont have issues with pronuncing his first and last name when it's written like that.
I agree with you but using the fact that Kolecki hit 180 and not Kakhi to strengthen your opinion about snatch technique doesn't really work as Kahki was a better snatcher in general with a lot better technique than Kolecki.
