Super Meat Boy: Level Intros & References

- I captured all the video from the games except for two clips:
- The clip of the Internets opening came from • Super Meat Boy - World... because I only have the PC version.
- The clip of Street Fighter II came from • Street Fighter II Vari... because I couldn't get it working on any damn emulator I tried.
Enjoy! - เกม

Imagine a parody game where it's like normal Mega Man 2 until Wily kicks Mega Man off the building
Fun Fact: In Japan, Mega Man was called Rockman, but Joseph Morici decided to change the name because he said it sounded terrible.
@@boinamedrex_69 Yeah I know lol

Thats not hard. TRY to achieve the inmortal trophies in cottom alley and you'll see what a real nightmare looks like.
ghosts 'n goblins is very fitting

dont know if you guys gives a damn but if you are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all of the new movies on Instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my brother these days :)
The remix to the intro music of Street Fighter 2 is hands down one of the best remixes of any video game song I have ever heard. Like it couldn't have been done any more perfectly.
0:00 Bubble Bobble
0:30 Street Fighter 2 The World Warrior
1:08 Castlevania™
1:28 Adventures of LoLo™
2:38 Ninja Gaiden™
3:52 Megaman 2
5:12 Pokemon™ Blue Version
5:48 Ghosts'N Goblins™
My own Game? Simple!
"the year is 200X" that means the megaman was set in 2010
The Pokemon one looked familiar, and I was like "Hmm.. looks familiar but I don't know from where."
oh.
Lel...
I thought that was the only reference they had
any chance we could get a video of where the warp zone title screens are references too
2:39 my favorite intro in the game
Aidan Schaeffler mine too
The SF2 made laugh so hard every time i started the first world...
SF2?

My favorite :D
I love how their adventures of lolo reference has the flashes reduced so it hurts the eyes less.
Smart move.
0:48 SO AWESOME!
Never realized exactly how much 8-bit love that was put in this game. I even played most of them. Thanks!

Ahh man I love it so much. I hope Super Meat Boy: Forever has a bunch of references like this too
it does
5:13 everyone knows that this is pokemon
2:00 Epilepsy warning!
Super meat boy is a giant tribute to video games and that's why it's such an excellent game.
The Pokemon reference took the cake for me LOL
i like how the color scheme of the characters in the ninja gaiden is so perfect
I love how the Meat Boy clip is in sync with the original music from MM2.
Whoa! I had no idea that all of these intros were video game references.
I can't believe the amount of effort they put into this game. In my first play through I was blinded by frustration and could not see the beauty and crude yet hilarious humor in this game. A true gem, the high reviews don't lie. The references and characters that are actually worth unlocking put the icing on the cake.
Now we only need a Portal reference in the game and this will be my favorite game ever.
There was an unused portal themed cutscene, it had GlAdoS creating dr fetus
ngradrian glados creating dr fetus
Warp Zones
ngradrian they reference classics only. From childhood.
well super meat world references portal
here
Thanks for the awesome vid! I had understood all these references while playing other then the adventures of lolo.
Because I have probably played less than 50 (full-priced) video games in my life, and I've never owned any sort of console other than a PC (among many, many other reasons), I never understood any of these references. Thanks for making this video!
Good job putting this together. Shame about Egger not showing up properly-Adventures of Lolo was the first game I got with my NES, so it was cool to see SMB reference it like this.
Epicly done man!, Gratz on the SMB twitter mention :P
idk but i cried whem the megaman music kicked in. 😢😢😢 childhood memories. it was and still is my favorite game. 😢😢😢
How are you feeling about Mega Man 11?
awesome job dude!!
lmfao about the megaman 2 reference
So much awesome music in one video x3
The Cotton Alley: Wow, got it at first.
The Forest: Was pretty obvious.
The Hospital: OF COURSE >:O
The Salt Factory: HOW I NO RECOGNIZE ADVENTURES OF LOLO! D:
Hell: Never played...
The Rapture: Obvious...
The End: 6 words: How. I. Didn't. F******. Recognize. Pokémon. D:
The Flipside.
Okay, thanks, I will play it ^^
The Flipside.
Ahh, great, need NES emulator.
The Flipside. I do have a Wii, but no, I don't want to buy it, i like emulators (trains) :D
The Flipside. Save states? What do you think I am, a cheater? I hate using save states. I don't really use them in a game, but, the problem is...I don't have a nes controller.
The Flipside.
Okay, I think I'm a little good using Keyboard cause I beat Brownie on my first time IN ONE TRY. Wish good luck to me! :3
Ghosts 'N' Goblins reference was also in the beginning of the Flash game Meat Boy.
Man i love all of those references
Fun Fact : Edmund McMillen And Florence Daven Created All Of Those Game References On The Binding Of Isaac
Awesome best video ever!
3:56 NO SHIT ITS CANT BE!!!!! MEGAMAN!!!!
Now I Really Hate You DR. FUCKTUS
Aidan Penaherrera HUUUUH But dis is different....
Wow, I knew about a lot of these, but the Pokemon reference just dropped my jaw. I've been playing this game for a looooong time, and finally got 106%, but never ONCE, did I catch that.
... Clever girl...
No worries, you're not alone!
SMB referenced mega man on lvl 5 - the same level you unlock the kid from IWBTG on, but IWBTG parodied the exact same reference as their title cut-scene. Plus, the kid warp zone is on level 7, the number of bosses on IWBTG.
if you are fan of kirby you recognize this boss 1:59
Bruh that game came before the boss
True but still
In the epilogue, when the castle is destroy, we can see the castle explose and we can heard a remix of "where is my mind" by Pixies ... I'm sure that's a reference to the end of "Fight club" ...
Thank you. The only one I totally didn't recognize at all was the Lolo one, and that's been bugging me. I only played that game once, and it was a rental. The only other one I didn't get right away was Pokemon. Hard to believe, but I've never owned a Gameboy of any kind.
I LOVE SUPER MEAT BOY AND I DID NOT EVEN KNOWN THAT THOSE SCENES ARE REFERENCES TO OTHER GAMES
I loved these old game Refrence
Jojo reference: "Finally, a worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!"
Castlevania, street fighter and pokemon references are so gold.
Scrolling up the tower was obives to megaan
4:55 perfect timing
Oh damn
D
at the end with the red blob thing it is a thing about sponebob or another thing were squidward gets hit in the face and turns beautiful
There's a Mortal Kombat reference too.Reptile randomly gives clues, so does Meat Ninja. They both say "Look to la luna." as well.
awesome vid :D
The reason he did this like that is because there are different music sounds. So the first time you hear the Super Meat Boy music and sounds, and the second time you hear the original game's music and sounds.
4:16 Like ;D
4:00 got it first thing
Played most of this, but got just a couple of them playing Meat Boy.My life was a lie...
Super Meat Boy Forever continues the tradition of references
Otto will be missed whoever watches zachscottgames
I only got the street fighter, castlevania, lolo and megaman on my own
i cant believe they played thoose good games like pokemon or ninja gaiden
The more amazing thing is that since Kirby got more and more popular than Lolo and Lala, Lololo and Lalala became more popular than them, even appearing as supporting characters in the Kirby animated series (Kirby: Right Back at Ya!) but there they were called Fololo and Falala, for some reason.
How did i not even get the MegaMan II one
Me neither :O
Well, its epic music makes it reconogizible
0:30 My favorite ☺
i love this game
I'm amazed how I played ALL these games and not reconigsed not even a single reference when I played SMB
THAT MEGA MAN WAS SO OBVOUIS and pokemon
+Bennett Taylor and ninja gaiden. Those 3 were pretty obvious references but i didnt knew about the others.
+Bennett Taylor i didnt counted pokemon. It wasnt that obviois tbh.
Adventures of lolo and bubble bobble were easy also
I just realized the Original Meat Boy (flash version)'s intro was a direct homage to Ghosts and Goblins' intro.
You know, I just realized.
They used Ghosts'N Goblins as the reference point...for Cotton Alley
Fitting? Of course.
Having beaten GnG I'd say Cotton Alley could be harder. Then again I never had much patience for it.
Before I only got the castlevania and megaman 2 references, I didn't know they all referenced something.
I knew the Ninja Gaiden one, Adventures of Lolo, Pokemon, Castlevania and Mega Man 2. I would've known about the Ghosts and Goblins one two, but I've never seen that cutscene in Super Meat Boy before.
You have to admit, most of these things are obvious, with the exception of the adventure of Lololo, witch was kinda expected cause... well, they had to have a Kirby reference somewhere! :D
Sort of ironic, actually, how The Binding of Isaac references a lot to Super Meat Boy, also by Edmund McMillen, and Super Meat Boy references to a lot of other games as you can see in this video, so The Binding of Isaac is sort of referencing to a reference itself.
I knew quite a few of these. I knew Castlevania, MM2, Ninja Gaiden, and Ghosts n Goblins right away. I somehow failed to see Generation I Pokemon intro though.
Ones that I found by myself: Bubble Bobble, Street Fighter II, Castlevania, Mega Man, and Ghosts & Goblins. And if you include Meat Ninja, then Mortal Kombat.
I was never able to beat enough levels to get that last one
@mainyufd in fact, the final ending and the fall of dr.fetus kinda looks like bowser falling into the pit of lava
Most of those scenes can be seen in I Wanna Be The Guy too.
awesome work here. thank you , but what song is played as while the intro of adventures of lolo is playing (intro world 3)?
The Mega Man reference is so Fu!#&@n good!
5:00 seeing Dr Fetus kick Meat Boy in the corner made my night.
5:00
The Internets: Bubble Bobble
The Forest: Street Fighter II
The Hospital: Castlevania
The Salt Factory: The Adventures of LoLo
Hell: Ninja Gaiden
The Rapture: MegaMan 2
The End: Pokemon Red & Blue
The Cotton Alley: Ghosts 'N Goblins
@Eragarev You do know that these intros are parodies of the openings of the other games?
lolo, megaman and pokemon were the only ones i noticed by myself
I immediately knew the Street Fighter, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Megaman 2, and Pokemon ones.
The pokemon reference was the only one I got lol but I knew those were references I just didn't know the game it was to
Sadly, the Ghosts and Goblins reference was the only one I didn't get, hence viewing this video to find out, lol. I'm also guessing the Super Meat World intro is a reference to Star Wars Episode III?
I knew they where a lot of reference but Buble boble my firts game ever..
Meat boy es uno de mis juegos favoritos despues megaman cx,mario 64 last impat y mario odissey
When i saw gamefreak logo i was like oh no -_- its pokemon
The Ghosts n' Goblins one was the best one, because cotton alley was just as hard!
4:22 OH! THAT A REFERENCE ON "IWANNABETHEGUY"!
*4 seconds later* *That is Megaman*
FUCK
sounds about right
I have 14 years and I play with pokemon red edition and I want to play them again
No, Lolo was a character from a completely different series, but when HAL released Kirby's Dreamland few years later, they created two characters based of Adventures of Lolo, Lololo [based off Lolo] and Lalala [based of Lala, Lolo's girlfriend]. God, I sound like such a nerd.
The one that was a megaman reference could also be an IWBTG reference, possibly.
Then again idk when these games were made so
@Jorbs3210 Portal GlaDos is in the background.
ive never seen the bubble bobble reference. is it from the regular meat boy?
Adventures of LOLo ('3')
4:35 that's the begging of I wanna be the guy!
