    eyyy Mike, glad you've joined the club and enjoy the wheel base. I love the CSL DD. I'd recommend the R330 for oval/rally racing. I looked through the ecosystem for a very long time. Just pair it with the podium hub rather than the xbox hub - there's a vast quality difference!

    Hey nice review Mike 👍. I received my CSL DD with McLaren wheel yesterday and had my first experience last night. It was absolutely mind blowing! Especially after coming from using a T300 for years, this has changed the game for me. Im also waiting on a round wheel from Fanatec, I went with the R330 but there are so many delays at the moment. The McLaren will certainly make the wait easier.
    Enjoy your new toys Mike.

    Ive owned a Force feedback-less wheel for the past 2 years and thought it would be time to up the experience a bit since i play every single day. My original plan was to buy a T300 RS GT, but when i did a bit of research i found out direct drive wheels are more precise but also more expensive. I put a setup together and landed on exactly the same setup you have. Ive watched the video and you've convinced me to buy one of these for christmas. Thank you a lot brother!

    I think that's a fair statement on your part.
    but I do think they went into a board room and asked "how can we squeeze more money out of our customers..." Lol and the solution was the "boost kit", the USB conversion cables for PC use with their handbrake, shifter and pedals, the load cell kit costing more than the CSL elite pedals themselves and the "brake kit" for the V3 pedals which was an insane price for a few peices of cylindrical rubber.
    Anyway, you did a very nice job with the video and I do agree this is the wheelbase to beat now, it is the new "StandarDD" ;)

    Hi Mike, great review! I am loving my CSL DD with boost kit! If you are looking for a round wheel for supercars or rally, I can recommend the WRX or the porsche 918 RSR wheel (now replaced with the Clubsport steering wheel RS). Both wheels are great value for money and work really well with the CSL DD. And if you order a new wheel, buy the boost kit as well! Have fun!

    Huh... What! But, but, but...
    You has an Accuforce?!? I must watch this when I get a break from work.
    I jumped straight to the "good bad neutral" segment. I whole heartedly agree with what you said about the pricing. I did take the plunge and got the boost kit with my wheel, and I am glad that I did. It screams what the tires are doing, and punches hard enough for me to have to release the wheel if I end up sampling some guard walls. Good stuff...
    I believe Fanatec aimed for 8nm, and then paired the base unit back to 5nm, on order to cover both the CSW and CSL-E wheel bases. I could be wrong though. Either way, its a great wheel and it will take a lot to beat it.

      Get the WRC wheel for the CSL DD first, like I did. That alone is a versatile wheel and will work with pretty much any game, unlike the GT3 wheel which may feel awkward for rallying. The WRC wheel is really light and it will certainly help the user feel a bit more of the transmitted forces through the motors shaft because the motors momentum won't have much weight to work against as it's running

    For anyone having issues with the CSL DD (I assume this also extends to the CSL DD PRO)
    * Not being able to calibrate the H-pattern mode of the SQ 1.5 shifter:
    (1) Try with the short cable provided with the shifter.
    (2) If unsuccessful, unmount the wheel base, hold it tightly between your legs and try with short cable.
    ** Wheelbase or steering wheel disconnects in driver page or FFB/buttons/pedals quit working in-game:
    - on pc -
    (1) Connect the wheelbase with a wheel mounted and turn it on.
    (2) Open the driver page.
    (3) If everything seems connected, tighten the black C-clamp on the wheelbase shaft a bit (or to 15Nm torque) and see if the issue persists
    (4) If the issue persists or something shows to be disconnected: Loosen the black C -clamp on the wheelbase shaft till you can rotate it slightly without too much effort.
    (5) Rotate the clamp gently till the driver page shows everything connected
    (6) Tighten the black C-clamp on the wheelbase shaft a bit (or to 15Nm torque) and see if the issue persists
    I've had both issues, where the disconnection issues got worse and worse till the both of my wheels showed disconnected permanently. And after a month of trying drivers/firmware/usb-ports etc. these solutions solved my issues.
    *** On my initial fresh install of my CSL DD with Boost kit, the FFB was very weak. This was resolved quickly for me by uninstalling and re-installing the drivers again.

    • @SimRacing604
      @SimRacing604  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching! The first reason is the McLaren wheel. I love the buttons much better than the AF buttons. And the FFB is basically on par with the AccuForce, less a bit of punch at very acute moments. Although RaceRoom on my AccuForce is still the best FFB I’ve felt in a sim, the amount of tuning required to get there is far more than is required in the Fanatec world. In Fanalabs, you just double click one of the pre-installed FFB profiles (which include notes on in-game settings) and you’re good to go. The Fanatec presets are much more inline with what I look for in FFB

    I had the McLaren wheel for a week when i got the CSL DD but i sent it back and got the Formula V2.5 wheel instead (not the x version, dont like alcantara), i was not satisfied with how the McLaren wheel felt quality wise. Yes, the form factor is great, especially for longer races, but the downsides outweighed the pro's for me. The shifters dont feel punchy enough and the grip feels almost sticky and makes your hands hot after a while driving. Taking into consideration that the QR1 for a standalone price of 100€ is included in the 350€ for the Formula V2.5 wheel you could argue that the quality wise way superior V2.5 wheel comes at only 50€ more than the McLaren wheel plus QR1 which is a no brainer to me. Yes its noticeably smaller and i needed a few races to get used to it after the McLaren wheel but immediatelly it felt better and now the whole setup feels just perfect.
    As far as prices go for the CSL DD 5 or 8 nm, i just would look at it as two different wheel bases so to speak. A 350€ one and a 480€ one, problem solved. :D
    And even at a price point of 480 its still by far the cheapest DD base on the market, so no complaints there. I have no idea about the production costs for the CSL DD or the profit margins of Fanatec but i can imagine that the 480 price is where its actually at for them and while probably they still make a good profit at 350€ it's likely a lower margin than what they usually go for, its an aggressive price point to get as many people in their eco system as possible, can't blame them tbh.

    • @anticommoncore4065
      @anticommoncore4065 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a CSW v2.5, and have had my "Boosted"CSL DD for two months(first wave order). The FFB strength(w/Boost Kit) isn't any different, but the fidelity is noticeably better. Very much smoother being direct vs belt. But oh SO much quicker, as far as your response in correcting for loss of control situations. I'm able to catch slides before full loss of traction, because of the quick response of the direct drive. Before my CSW v2.5, I had a Logitec DFGT, and the upgrade to the CSW was night and day. But even though the difference between the CSW and the CSL DD isn't "night and day", it is a noticeable upgrade in fidelity and quickness in response. With the CSL DD, you feel more subtle nuances of road texture, vs the CSW v2.5. I feel the upgrade was worth it. I have the V3 pedals as well. And I'm keeping my CSW v2.5 as a backup in case the CSL DD needs service.

    People should stop looking at the boost kit as Fanatec ripping people off for a power supply. I think, in reality, they actually designed it from the beginning to have 8 Nm, but they wanted to hit that $350 price point. So they offered it with the smaller supply (likely at a very slim margin or even a loss) to get people in the door and compete with the other entry level wheel bases. The boost kit is priced to allow them to recoup some of that missing margin, and they know that once people enter the ecosystem, they will likely buy other Fanatec gear. Since they are a larger company people tend to imagine them as this evil corporation, but Fanatec has done a lot for the sim racing community. Before them, there was no middle tier between Logitech/Thrustmaster and high end DD bases. Their pedals are one of the best values on the market, and the same goes for their rims. Plus, at the end of the day, they are a business. They need to make a profit so their employees can earn a solid wage, and they can invest in developing new products for us. The least we can do is give them some benefit of the doubt.
    Congrats to Mike on the new gear. It's awesome to see you so thrilled. We're all really happy you are still making videos too. Keep up the great work! Cheers!

      Well I mostly agree, I think it's great for those who want a DD at a good price of $350, but the idea of a $150 laptop power brick is very off putting and scummy even if it's for business reasons. Personally as a consumer I would have preferred if they marketed it the csl dd with 8nm power supply as the main package and the csl dd 5nm as a the csl lite.
