I heard they said that it was boring for the developers to create another 2d style resident evil 2ish game again. Because when they made resident evil 2 that way, it was because of the technology in 1998. I guess the developers want new challanges, which sucks for us.
Thing is the game doesn't have to exactly even be done with pre-rendered backgrounds. It can be fully 3D, it's just the main core of the game should really rely on horror, scares, atmosphere etc. Rather than each area being a shooting gallery filled with quick time events
AlphaOmegaSin Yea it does not have to be, but imo it being fully 3d will kill the feel that made resident evil remake, RE2 and RE3 good. MAYBE if they did it the way they did RE4 it could end up being good. By the way, thanks for all your content!
Xendrius Resident Evil 4 was almost the perfect formula. Imagine Resident Evil 4 controls in the Resident Evil 2 setting. That would be some straight up gold. I think the shooting galleries should be saved for spin offs.
I actually like this video. Its finding that fine line between fandom and realistic expectations. Its nice and mellow with good points being posed at every turn. I'm not a resident evil fan, so whatever happens to the series is non-consequential to me, but I understand how important the series is to the fan of survival horror, but in all honesty with how the video game industry is right now nobody knows if anything good will ever come out of the resident evil series again.
CAPCOM you still have die-hard fans such as me. I still hope you guys can do well. If you really listen to us,you will truly redeem yourself and you will definitely profit from it. And you bring back the old former fans as well.
Huge fan from Scotland, I agree with everything AlphaOmegaSin said in this video, Would love to have seen a Resi 2 remake when the Gamecube was still around, the original remake was near perfect
"The original Resident Evil remake is the quintessential game." I could not have said it better myself. Why aren't there RE 2 and 3 remakes have the same time, effort, and ingenuity that went into the original remake? Don't get me wrong, I love RE 4 as much as the next Resi fan, but being a fan of the series since RE 1, I'd love to see my personal favorites, 2 and 3 see the remake they deserve instead of ANOTHER RE 4 remake. I can't be the only Resi fan to think and feel this way. Cmon' guys, these two DESERVE a remake just like RE 1. Resident Evil 2 is, and always will remain one of my most beloved and favorite games.
To be honest I absolutely loved Resident Evil 6 with Leons campaign, I think it did everything I could of ever asked for in a resident evil game, sadly the other 3 campaigns are what made the game unplayable for some, and they truley were not fun.
Can we please forward this & your Nintendo videos to the respected parties. Amen. Just found your channel recently but you speak the facts bro. Much love.
Damn, this video also sums up Dead Space really well. It fell apart after going after the action-shooter audience, and left the hardcore DS1 and DS2 fans like myself. They totally screwed everyone that loved the horror aspect.
dp3 feels to me like it has about the same amount of action plus a few human battles. . But it did ruin the weapon upgrade system, lowering the fun value greatly.
Alpha did you hear Capcom's latest shit? They said that resident evil's fans are too old and don't game anymore.. Like WTF I'm still in the early 20's and there are actually some fans under 20.. Long story short Capcom will make RE7 suck even more than the shitty new ones. What happened to the RE Series really breaks my heart :(
AlpahOmegaSin, thank you so much for making this video. I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time, talking about what the f**k's been happening to Resident Evil and how they can make it as good as it used to be. Thanks again, keep up the good work, and rawk on!
I'm more excited for "The Evil Within" than I am for any new resident evil title at this point. I love the old games. Enough to have the Umbrella logo tattooed on my arm. But Capcom has their heads up their asses with this series. If they go back to their roots then I could get back on board with it.
I like the attitude of "let's go back to survival horror" but... Evil Within looks like an RE4 or Dead Space clone. I can't help but feel any newer RE release is going to be the same. REvelations tried to do it, but they spread the scenario out way too much with unnecessary extra characters and made the game character driven instead of scenario driven. The scenario driven nature of REmake is what makes it so great as a survival horror game. It's not resource management that makes a good survival horror game, it's great level design and making new things happen where the player thinks she feels safe. For instance, when I first saw a Crimson Head and realized "fuck, all the zombies I just killed can come back to life and fuck me up" or I saw several zombies that could open doors (to areas i thought I'd cleared) after completing specific events, I was consistently on edge.
David McConville the series ran its course after RE5. With Wesker dead, there is no plot left that won't suck. Then again, they shouldn't have brought him back in CVX to begin with.
David McConville How is it the successor when Evil Within is a solo title that isn't released yet and Almighty No. 9 is mainly still on paper. Also Ada really isn't a villain and the "fans" will still complain. Personally I would love to see more of Ada in general.
Carcinogen What puzzles me is how Wesker says to Chris in 5 that their last meeting was the Spencer Mansion. Um, no, it wasn't. Discrediting Code Veronica is just one more way RE5 sucks hairy sacks.
Spl4shD4m4ge There is more then one Spencer mansion. Before RE5 Chris and Jill were at another Spencer Mansion, which is still after the events of Veronica.
Oh, you're absolutely right. That detail had completely slipped from my mind. I never owned the Gold Edition, so it didn't stick out to me. Thanks for clarifying.
Sales for the REmake were less than what they wanted because the gamecube is an underrated classic, hey Capcom, rerelease REmake online on PSN. Xbox Arcade, and Steam and just see how it fucking sells
That audio in the background sounds like RE2 music. Great to hear it while also upsetting. It's like a reminder to make us remember what the series was back then when it was horror at its core. Music is another thing in this series that they need to go back to the roots with.
Finally someone with the same outlook on the RE series i've been preaching this for years alpha. Im glad you made this video. I want the series to find it's way back the golden years. 5 and 6 were the most disappointing titles i have ever seen. Im going to post this video on capcom's Fb maybe just maybe someone might look at it and go hey alpha's and the fans are right maybe we do have our heads up our asses maybe we should go and bring RE back to the way it should be. I mean silent hill fell off the wagon as well look at home coming... Like honestly the only series that hasn't fallen off was fatal frame but we the US got denied the 4th installment of the series for god knows why. i've heard rumors of the original team silent getting back together so maybe capcom can do the same for the RE series these are my hopes and dreams. I don't want to see this series fail the day i have to say i am no longer a fan of the RE series would crush me it would the hardest thing to ever to do man. I GREW UP with RE i was there with the first one for ps1 and bought them ever since. Anyway thanks for listening alpha.
I want a reboot of Dino crisis i would love to see an updated look for Regina from the first 2 games, Dino crisis 3 destroyed it by putting dinosaurs in space wtf, im more of a silent hill fan then a resident evil fan and yet both franchises lost there appeal over time i think capcom will just milk resident evil until its dead and that's sad.
Resident Evil is where is at man. Grew up with RE3 and its my fav franchise hands down. Used to have nightmares when i was a kid, about Nemesis breaking through doors, chasing after me, lol. Good video, subbed.
judging by the way the story has gone. they would have to reboot if they wanted that classic resident evil feel in the main games. the story no longer allows for this.
No. Reboots are stupid and are never needed. You don't need to reboot something to make it good again. Just make the gameplay like RE Remake and it will be great again. Resident Evil is hardly a story driven series so there is no point to reboot it continuity wise either.
I really hope they go back to the survival horror roots of the earlier parts of the series. Although 4 was pretty good, I would have loved to have played how it was originally going to be made. 5 pissed me off so much that the last time I gave it a try, I just turned around and blew Shiva away and said, "there, I won, game over." 6 I never played because like with 5, I didn't care for the Call of Duty style crap because I personally don't care for Call of Duty. I think 5 and 6 should be remade into old school survival horror games. Maybe they won't suck then. Those are the only two I don't own.
Honestly, re5 was a very fun one to me. Sure it wasn't really as good as 4, which i enjoyed much, but the content made it fun. I loved getting all the infinite guns.
They should remake one of the original RE for 3ds like they did with RE 1. Hell they could easily go and remake RE 3 and just call it RE 3D like they tend to do with games on the DS. Plus I really enjoyed RE DS and it was the first time I finished that game.
So then they will add an option for DLC of DLC of DLC for "HD" texture of just 1 object for billions $$$$$, and then a re-re-re-re-remake :P. How about just force the crap out of their brain and make it SCARY(still incomparable to old Silent Hill) and ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING DLC new Biohazard (I prefer the orginal name more than Resident Evil when it is not even in A HOUSE :L)
I've played and beaten RE4 for four different systems now, still love the game, and will continue to play it. I agree with all you say about 5 and 6, I honestly can't wait to see what "7" may hold. Thanks for the video!
16 minutes of background music giving chills to my spine without the help of RE2 overwhelming optical terror.Thats the true Survival Horror Atmosphere i miss most.
My first RE game was actually Revelations. I was only looking for a good 3DS game... and it was. Then I was curious about the series and I made ton of searches about it evolved or not if we can see things like that. Two months later I see RE4, RE0 and, surprisingly, REmake. All pure Gamecube games and I pick up RE4, obviously... I liked the game at first and then I wanted to see the roots of Resident Evil so I picked the remake only two days later and... it quickly became one of the best experiences on video game to me. Sure I was scared but not at the point of... you know... I grew up with some horror games already like Phantasmagoria and Gabriel Knight without actually playing them so I was prepared but... I wasn't prepared for the real Hunters or Lisa Trevor (such a sad story). Then I played the first Dead Space and I didn't go back to RE4 for a long time because at the same time, I saw all versions of RE4 and I got bored. The so-called greatest game of all time was no more than a diluted success based on its sales and that's it. People who started with RE4/5/6 should discover what made this series such a great experience and I know what I'm talking about because the REmake is now with Metroid Prime and Arkham Asylum on my best-games list. I want upcoming gamers (or new RE fans like me) to discover the roots of the series and how people like AOS used to play before the trend of action games. Capcom promised one day that RE2/3/Code Veronica X would be optimized for the Gamecube but it never happened because... REmake didn't sell well based on their sell forecasts. The best thing Capcom can do is releasing REmake to the biggest audience they've got (Sony) and make it playable on the PS3 or even the PS Vita (make sure to have some straps), Xbox 360 and PC/Steam... if they can actually afford it. It's not about removing an exclusive game to Nintendo, it's about refocusing on what the series used to be. But I'll tell you something that may piss all of you. Based on evolution, Resident Evil was already going on action since RE2. 3.5 (the original RE4) was actually going back to its roots by adding something new or different. Anyway, the light wants to be spread but nothing is better than a light "alone in the dark". Even today, REmake is fantastic like Metroid Prime because of both art directory and the atmosphere and I don't think new consoles will reach this level of "wowness" because... basically the Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2 and Xbox despite both consoles having excellent games on their own and, at the end of the day, games make the console. I'm not impressed by the new consoles because most games featured are basically déjà-vu... and that pisses me off. If you never played the REmake, you actually have to. You can buy a Gamecube just for this game. Sure, the first RE is all about nostalgia but objectively, REmake is just better. It feels like a brand new game despite having a new paint.
Welcome to the club. RE4 was my first, then picked up Code Veronica on PS2. That was many years ago...ended up collecting every game in the series from RE (1996) to Resident 0 and the spinoffs. To say I loved the series was an understatement back then, and to see it crash. But yeah, you're right that the action evolution of the series was inevitable especially if you've played RE3 (a great game in its own right). Thanks for, like me, going back and discovering what made the series so great. You, sir, are awesome!
Well, I didn't have a chance to play RE2 and RE3 but I sure will. I'm not a fan of this franchise but I just like to discover the roots of everything. My favorite franchise is Metroid so it's obvious that Jill was one of thr major reasons I wanted to play RE. And as a fan of Metroid, I can totally say that Other M was mediocre but.. I wish AOS makes a video on Metroid because the Wii U has all the things for a great Metroid game, 2D or 3D... or first-person a la Prime. Talk about a game series that crashed. ;-)
All right so how do you say Resident Evil 2 is more action if you didn't even play it? i'm not pissed off but your ''evolution'' theory it's just odd, Resident Evil (1996) and Resident Evil 2 are all about survival horror (unless you play easy difficulty with high brightness on the T.V. screen) or if by action you mean the cutscenes hahaha... whatever sorry i didn't get pissed off but your comment made me laugh. Oh And yeah the players who started with 4,5,6 and have't played the originals are a bunch of n00bs i've seen lots of players on Xbox Live with only one achievement on Resident Evil Code Veronica X HD ( The First Achievement ) I despite the Re newcomers who only like 4,5,6, thumbs up to you for going back to the Old school, Resident Evil Code Veronica sure it's a classic but it sure is an awesome RE Title. Also Resident Evil 3.5 was trying that yes but ended up scratching all that to start over because their product was too different with Ghostly appearances , if there is something that can be very noticed on RE 4 is Action and it that was also because of the lower sales than expected from Resident Evil Remake but that was the director's fuck up for betraying his original core fan base ( Sony ) and making remake a Nintendo Exclusive. Welcome and RE Newcomer let's Hope they make great titles like they used to Goodbye .
I watched many retrospectives so it's easy to comeup to this conclusion. (Hideki Kamiya). But I'm sure I'll get some jumpscare. I'll make my best finding the N64 edition. ;-)
Alexandre Armont Retrospectives are not good to watch if you haven't completely played the experience yourself by the time you watch it, it doesn't matter who did the retrospective either a Japanese Re Expert An European Re Expert or An American Re Expert . If you want Resident Evil 2 for pc Get a Free emulator like Project 64 1.6 or 1.7 ( Nintendo 64 Emulator ) then download the Nintendo 64 Rom at: coolrom.com/roms/n64/1142/Resident_Evil_2.php the game runs smooth and it's easy to download and start once Project 64 has been installed, hopefully this is useful to play Re 2 on pc and if you do download it to Full Screen the Emulation just press Both Alt+Enter at the same time, also it is recommended to play real survival horror titles alone in the dark :) , cheers again for your alone in the dark reference, rock on!
I agree , it's what a RE game should be. Simply Masterpiece and you expected a great final after CW. I really disappointed in RE4 when I saw Umbrella's downfall offscreen (or offgame :P). I never really like RE4, it's just a decent Action game with some horror elements.
This is why th Evil Within is going to succeed..... because it knows where its place is (survival horror) lol. And also because the original creator that made resident evil back in the day is running the project and it will be fucking nuts and down right fantastic! I'd like to see a good resident evil but I'd much rather have some one present to capcom what survival horror needs to be
Ragitsu I disagree, I'd say to an extent RE4 is even survival horror. I think a game can be survival horror even if it's action oriented. It's more about atmosphere and isolation to me.
I love horror games and I totally agree with you I got turned away bad when the games became a lot less scary. Great video I'm glad I subscribed to your videos
***** - Capcom themselves didn't call 4 Survival Horror. The back of my RE4 case actively tells me to 'Forget Survival Horror' as it's redefined as action horror. And what you say about 4 on professional mode can just be applied to Resi 5, if survival horror is the last term in quality when it comes to you, there aren't enough differences between 4 and 5 to properly justify you saying the series got retarded between them. I never felt lower on ammo in 4 than I did in 5. I never felt safer with some partner (as competent as she WAS(!!)) in 5 since you had to keep HER alive too. Dark castles aren't any more disquieting to me than the tribal village of a bunch of murdering psychosis (even IN daylight), so what even.
I'm fine with capcon making action games instead of survival horror IF they just dont stamp the name "resident evil" on them, thats never what it was about. They changed way too much on RE 4, but 5 and 6 are plain action shooters, survival horror doesn't exist there.
Hey Alpha! I just wanted to post I the comments that I have been watching a lot of your videos and you have inspired me to play the old resident evil games, buying a GameCube and playing the resident evil remake(the one I could find), and got me super into the survival horror genre, I also got a ps4 just to see the next games they will devolpe, I'm not giving up on the genre because while there isn't much, I know they're will be more! The Evil Within will be so freaking awesome! By the way nice touch with the resident evil 2 soundtrack in your video! Thank you for showing me this awesome genre! Maybe we can chat sometime!
Survival horror isn't niche. RE1-3 made them a lot of money back in the day and the first two Dead Space games were hits. It's not about being niche, it's that action games tend to make a lot more money and return investment is key.
It's not but they keep comparing one market to another, so then they feel they need to be apart of that and that's where they fucked up. If they want the call of duty crowd then make a separate franchise that is able to contend with it, instead they took the dumb and lazy approach and took something familiar and tried adapting it to capitalize off of it's namesake. All the while cater to a crowd that may be more interested now that it plays and feels like something else
I totally agree. If they wanted a Resident Evil action game, that's what Operation Raccoon City should have been. Have Resident Evil be about horror, have a spin off franchise more about shooting mutants and zombies. But they kind of screwed that up with ORC. Resident Evil is a big enough franchise to support two different styles of games just make sure each is quality and you don't screw up what made the main series great to begin with.
jammo2000 No what it's about is a company appealing to a wider fanbase in HOPES they'll be sucessful, instead of milking the fuck out of their loyal fanbase who WANT to throw money at them, like apple back in 2009. All you are doing is talking in thsi generic sense like you know how money works. If people lose interest in the product, and they make another investment into a game say RE7 that DOESN'T get bought, because gamers are becoming overly skeptical (and with good reason) of games like these from asshole companies with a history of spitting on their consumers (look at apple, sonic, COD recently, capcom, ea, konami. Companies who had their time in the sun but are just continuing to breath life into a dead thing) in order to to whore themselves out to greater capacity. This is a specific danger and they're already at huge risk of a guaranteed flop next game if they don't sell the public narrative well enough that they need to for people to trust the game enough to just buy it. It's about a guaranteed market that is losing more and more if it's market. And all because they looked at someone elses cake and thought... "that cake is much bigger than mine, I want that" but in the process gave have unknowingly given up their own. Everything that used to and is the reason it was good, wanted and why there was a market for it. That's disappearing because people are waking up and knowing to not buy before they hear thorough reviews. these days and This is how desperate fangays and nostalgia fags are about this. Me personally, I give up on the company, the people are different, the whole thing is not what it was. It has MOVED ON. If this has any hope of regaining the respect it's going to be the individually recreated in secret, or under a different mantra.
I think a lot of game-companies have lost a lot of the creative people (translation fired them), because creative people can be a pain in the "behind", so now the "older" game companies have professional board leaderships with shareholder obligations, and it is all about selling games at a high price, and of course as many as possible. Some things been lost look at all the "old" game companies over the last couple of years they have had one failed launch after another, not going to mention perhaps the biggest flop of 2013. We are seeing more and more of the people behind some of the older games for pc and console starting indie-game-companies, why is that?? Then there is the other side of the coin, maybe not something that have been noticed so much in the US, but more and more European game companies are showing up in Germany, Poland and other former USSR countries. You may have notice Giants "Farming simulator", maybe MR-software"OMSI". UPs we got lost the point was I think some of the big gaming companies may in the pursuit of money, have lost some of the creative people, we all know that kind of people, the person that stays late, and forgets all about time and place because he is so into what he is doing. These are all thoughts and maybe not even valid, but what do I know I only got a degree in Physics, not software development.
What they need to do is re-release Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and 2 on PC via Steam. Both were outstanding Online CO-OP games but were released in online gaming infancy, without headset support, on the PS2 which never really grasped Online to begin with it. Also where the Fuck is my Dino Crisis? and not that BS Dino Crisis 3, you left 2 on a cliff hanger then made a completely unrelated game stamped Dino Crises 3 and afterwards dropped the franchise... Way to fuck that one up.
I absolutely agree with you. I LOVED RE: Outbreak File 1 and 2. My only Gripe was the braindead AI. But with getting Online and playing with 3 of your buddies in such a team-work based surivival horror game? I would love it. And Where did Dino Crisis go? The first game was brutally difficult and intimidating, but a helluva fun game. The second was fun too, though it was a bit more action like than the first. The mini-games were freaking addicting, and I loved being able to upgrade the guns. Saddly nothing too noteworthy has come out for Dino Crisis since then.
the devs actually thought about putting headset support but realized that would take away from the atmosphere and the helplessness you are suppose to feel playing those games which is why they went with the AD-Lib mechanic.
If they want to fix the series, put less emphasis on firing guns and more emphasis on solving puzzles. And when I say puzzles, I'm talking about more than 'push the crate' or 'press the switch'. Make some real brain-scratchers.
Mainly a very dark and isolated atmosphere , then very reduced supplies on the map , then extremely strange and very unpredictable b.o.w.s then puzzles as complex as possible this game isn't all about puzzles so better not over do those but also difficult situations that require strategy, and the ability to choose from different paths like Re 3 ( each path has it's own consequences ) of course yes less emphasis on firing more on knifing strategic enemies and running away when needed , that's one of the most important survival horror feels the need to run away from the mutated creatures .
***** Another thing I'd like to see, and I completely understand if you don't agree with me on this, is have Rebecca & Billy come back. It still bugs me that they never explained what happened to either of them after the Mansion. I mean, they brought Sherry back, the least they could do is have her show up to offer assistance somewhere. And it seemed like there was going to be more to Billy's character then they were letting on. Plus, Rebecca knows Chris so it could tie in with the story they've told so far.
Luke Raven I agree. Bring back Rebecca and Billy. We now know what happened to Sherry but how bout the two who were also there in the mansion incident, as well as Barry.
I agree completely with what AlphaOmegaSin has said here. Though the more I think about it i'm probably one of the few people who actually doesn't mind Operation Raccoon City and can see both sides of people's opinions. Keep up these very intriguing videos Alpha!
I think you forgot to mention a little detail, the writting. RE4 gave us a plot that´s cheesy and childish even with some plotholes, it´s not even connected to the other games and in a way ruined the future. The future games did the same and made it even worse, so for me that became the main reason why the newer games are bad, the action aspect is the second reason. I also didn´t give up at RE but I think the only way to save it is to reboot everything and comming up with a decent story or just make another sequel with a new story which isn´t connected to any of the other games and from that on building up that new story, obvious in a decent way.
You're right. RE2, 3 and even CVX had some great writing. RE4 was cheesy as fuk. Dialogue wise. And in terms of story well... RE4 just forgot everything and started a whole new plagas BS that no one really cared for.
+yeti112 resident evil zero had some bad plot holes about Rebecca and the mansion being above lab when also the factory was above, and re2 one bad plot hole was when the namesis jump through the window in re3 which was before re2 at the beginning of re3 and in re2 the window wasn't broken
I agree with you 1000%. The new RE are like Uncharted with zombies or like the old and only Extermination. Was Code Veronica the last old school RE ? Maybe they should ask people to vote which type they like better. Even if I grew up with RE I like Silent Hill better. It still has its own ID. Although I would really love to see a new RE like they used to make it 15 years ago. I still play RE 1,2 sometimes.
I agree on all points alpha, resident evil four was a magnificent experience for most of us but it was the beginning of the end for what the series was. And they should indeed use the gamecube remake as a staple for their future games! It was incredible, truly. A work of art!
Residentevil stopped existing after Residentevil 3. The highlight of the series by a LONG margin was the Gamecube Residentevil 1 remake. Just a simply stunning, atmospheric, brutal game. Drop this action rubbish and give me my favourite games back. I didn't bother completing 6. Didn't bother playing Code Veronica or 4.
***** YES! I mean, the original theme for 4 and the scenes they showcased when they revealed it felt like an actual survival horror game, the so wanted Resident Evil in Third Person... Instead we got an action packed, barely scary (except for regenerators, they were fucked up), with no survival at all and filled with unexpected QTE game
To be fair I'm wondering on how many people skipped the Outbreak chronicles because that has shaped the RE series. Also Nemesis and Veronica had a lot of action as well. Its not like action was non-existant in RE before RE4.
***** It's different, granted I didn't play Outbreak and for that I regret. But I played Code Veronica and it was pretty much classic RE with a little more explosions, it still had the atmosphere and the BOWs thing still made kind of sense. But in 4 it's all about jumpscares, chainsaw guy and, the best executed part of the game in my opinion: the Regenerators at the lab in the Island (oh, and controlling Ashley). Then, there's the rest of the game which is pretty much Resident Evil 5 before the steroids
***** Actually classic RE would be RE1 and RE2 because Nemesis and Veronica can't the formula. Heck Outbreak added upon that with at least walking while swinging or shooting. I hope you aren't falling behind nostalgia. To be fair most of RE in general is jump scares like all horror games still are. Yes Chris took steroids but 4 was just as "scary" as 5.
AlphaOmegaSin I just subscribed to your channel. Ironically I came across your channel by searching the word "Capcom" and the first video that came up was "Capcom Only Has 152 Million In The Bank, How Screwed Are They?". I completely agree with you and like yourself have been there since the beginning. When RE:4 came out the first thing that popped in my head was "NO! Why? They needed to be more like RE:Remake and Zero!" They could've easily avoided the tragedies they've put this franchise through if they would have just done that! Anyways great rant man and I'm very passionate about the series...Hell I just got done watching 3hrs worth of your videos back to back. Keep up the good work, thanks for the info and definitely going to be watching more your videos.
RE4 was the defining game that changed the landscape. I think that the film franchise in someway is also to blame. I know Capcom will closely keep an eye on how THE EVIL WITHIN will perform in sales and will make a decision over the Shoot em up zombie game or the suvival horror game.
I lost faith in the franchise I am sorry but there is no hope not without Shinji Mikami. The Evil Within is what I am interested. But I wont lie I actual wanted to buy re5 and re6 just because Resident Evil is something I still grew up with.
Resident Evil Remake was great. I kinda like how RE4 looked like in the beginning! i liked RE4 but i think it would be cool if they let you play that version
Because modern capcom is very unfriendly to all of their original fans. I mean, look at that part on DMC when the new dante gets hit with the silver wig that makes him look like the original. He straight up said I don't think so. That was a huge, alienating slap in the face of the original fans.
You said what's been on my mind since RE4, I loved the game but I seen the changes coming. Thank's Alpha for being the voice of the RE gamers, let's just hope Capcom is listening. And as always, GAME THE FUCK ON!!!!!
I bought a Gamecube console just so i could play the remake of RE and RE Zero. Those are the only games i i bought for theGamecube. That is how much i loved RE franchise. RE 4 was good. I traded in RE 5 because i hated it! RE 6 was okay. I like the graphics but only play Leon and Helena,Jake and Sherry and Ada Scenarios.
Did the background music put anyone else in the mood to play RE and/or bring back those great memories when you got the hell scared out of you playing!!
Its just sad to see my favorite franchise from the 90s ruined. I really think Capcom has not learned a thing and will continue to crash the franchise to the ground.
I believe its Capcom that ruined 'RE and I also believe that fans have done their part to address these issues to Capcom, they just choose not to listen.
Dwight Aceves But as Alpha puts it as easily as i could, Capcom moved on, because they saw that fans ate up the shooter-esque RE4, then taken too far, yes, but if RE4 hadnt sold, and i KNOW RE5 sold like crazy, RE6 even made a pretty penny. Capcoms only fault is burning money on new versions of IPs that they already have out, and the debacle of on disk DLC.
Dwight Aceves im sorry, i dont like the old RE games that were more shock scares and wandering than action. thats just me, and theres a lot of RE fans now because of that move. RE's original fans may be gone, but they have plenty new ones
Dante Lowe im gonna respectfully disagree with you, but I believe RE has gone in a bad direction. I think the market is flooded with to many action shooters and 'RE didn't have to go in the action shooter direction.
AlphaOmegaSin you speak the truth sir. We need people like you to voice this shit in the hopes that the idiots at Capcom notice how much they are fucking up. The games success - comics, toys, films, spin offs has came from the fact it was a "Survival Horror" and it no longer is that. I just hope Capcom sort out the shambles it has became.
For me, Resident Evil 3 is where the story ends. I was a huge fan of those original 3 games. RE4 was a fantastic game, but for me it was almost part of a different franchise
DionysusJPower I agree except I began to like Code Veronica. I never had the game long enough to complete myself I got stuck at this one part earlyish on and didn't get past that, but that was actually not a bad continuation. Although yeah I played the absolute fuck out of my Ps1 and raped 2 and 3 particularly hard. Like Dozen playthroughs maybe each.
Oh and fucking Dino Crisis 1, and 2. Think about the games. Re1, 2 , Nemisis. Dino 1, and Dino 2 these both act so differently but both very enjoyable. All the styles they used were slightly different, or very different They just don't know how to have us in suspense, they aren't cutting edge. They're sellouts going for a bigger peice of the cake, dumbing the game down in order to market it with mass appeal. They are intentionally moving away from us, us who made it great. If they want to promise us they're making a game for us, I say we make them a promise, That they can go fuck themselves if they drop another bomb. Let them fucking go bankrupt. Seriously guys, lets not waste our money hastily, only PERSONALLY trusted sources... don't just believe any steam article about this shit. Valve/steam will probably guarantee the sale of the game through their bullshit control on the market. But it's up to us... to not just let them. Think before you spend. Sit on it for a day, trust me.
Love the music throughout the video mate, Also don't forget the very very very first incarnation of RE4 actually turned into DMC1 (The directing for RE4 was originally headed by Hideki Kamiya but then Shinji Mikami came in and said the style is too departed from the RE series so make this a separate franchise).
***** You are missing the "Horror" aspect of "Survival Horror". The games are meant to fill you with a sense of Dread and panic. Something the older RE games did very well, you had Very limited supply and zombies everywhere. Check out games like, Outlast, Slender, Corpse Party, Amnesia, these are "Survival Horror" games, because you can't shoot your way through it. It takes planning and analyzing while trying to survival with a small supply (if any) with Hell chasing after you.
***** I do believe you are confused. What you just named was a science-fiction horror game and first person shooters. Survival Horror are games like: The Evil Within, Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, Siren, and Silent Hill.
***** Yeah, but there is no horror aspect to those genres. Doom was a FPS with horror elements, some done quite well to make a good horror environment, but your supply's sure as hell aren't as limited as you think. In survival horror, the game is centered around the prospect of a horror environment surrounded by enemies that forces you to ponder the decision to either fight, or run the fuck away. In ANY fps, you do not have the choice to fight or not, it's all a run around shoot every thing type of play style. Also, the games BUC listed have a major aspect that fps don't have that you failed to notice, that being the fact that you CAN'T fight back in any way, shape for form.
Resident Evil is dead, I don't have any illusions. Silent Hill is dead, Castlevania, Final Fantasy etc. The sooner we realize it, the better. And we will save our money from buying every single mega-crap we are served that bears the title: "Resident Evil", or "Biohazard". After Raccoon City, I took a decision for myself: from now on to be a responsible consumer, to stop being a moron, or at least try to. Whenever I'm in the mood to to play a good zombe game, I re-play RE 2 and the other old titles again and again, and I'm always having a blast, pretending that it's the first time I play them. :)
I agree about Silent Hill, that series, in my opinion has been dead since Silent Hill 3. As for Resident Evil, I think it's just barely alive thanks to Revelations, but if they screw up RE7, it's gonna die if they don't make it like a RE game again in my opinion. When you started talking about Castlevania and Final Fantasy, however, I think you're saying that only because YOU don't like it anymore. Since both franchises have a reputation for making each game different, but with at least some common themes that stayed since it's beginning. Castlevania for example was always about that Dracula was or would be resurrected and that someone with the name Belmont or someone else with special powers had to save the world from Dracula's wrath.
***** what I meant by saying that those franchises are dead, but I didn't express myself correctly, was that the original idea around which each of those franchises were created has ended, died. Resident Evil as a brand name is not dead, or half dead, RE 6 is alive and well, and if I'm not mistaken it's the best selling RE game ever (!) Heck, even RE: Operation Raccoon City bears the name Resident Evil, that doesn't mean anything. It's about the marketing policy of big companies, which frankly doesn't concern me as a consumer. I have my own criteria and logic to understand which game is Resident Evil. Final Fantasy, Castlevania and which is not.
Oh God. Operation Raccoon City should be a swear word in the Resident Evil community. Such a craptastic game that used Resident Evil 2 to shamelessly draw the core Resident Evil fans in.
No, there were 4 versions planned prior to the one now, the one you saw was version 4, version 1 became dmc, version two had fog zombies, 3 just had zombies, then this
the one shown looks amazing and 4 would be the perfect point to split action horror / survival horror 4.5, 5.5 and 6.5 just because they made 5 and 6 doesnt mean they cant make an alternate version off them should be like 4sh 4ah 5sh 5ah 6sh 6ah. i get why it went action it even makes sense and all with the virus evolving but they evolved it way to quick. plus the game didnt really evolve it very well. the virus shouldve gone global unevolved then evolved when supplies are running low aka survival horror maybe done right knowing enemies had guns but you never or something like that. fact is zombies have become to human. 4 was right in the middle
I always have trouble maneuvering the characters in the original games because it took me a bit of practice to figure out the controls. But that was part of the fun. I can't tell you how many times I died because instead of turning to get away from a monster or zombie, my character ended up doing the running man against a wall before getting killed.
Resident evil 1 to 4 are master works. You can't recreate magic. Especially since most of the talent that made the old games have been long gone from Capcom.
samuraispiritsx No but you can sell hope to the desperate, milk the cow to death, then at the end of it all steal from the farmer. Then you can always repackage. Continue selling nostalgia to bitter confused fans, you watch them close all emulating sites, they will make it as hard as they can. Plenty of ways for Gaben + Crapcum to rape us a little more, aaaaaaand, one more instance of me listing a reason publicly to be marked by a billionaire company for assassination... :D :s I wish more people spoke out about this so I wouldn't feel so alone... ... :(
I love it when this guy talks about capcom :D
Xendrius
Resident Evil 4 was almost the perfect formula. Imagine Resident Evil 4 controls in the Resident Evil 2 setting. That would be some straight up gold. I think the shooting galleries should be saved for spin offs.
+SKITSohFRANIA Mania No, just... no.
MasterofMerol81 Yes, just... yes.
This is the calmest I've seen AlphaOmegaSin.. Soothing
His lets plays are pretty calming. He also talks about a lot of cool stuff while playing awesome games.
I'll have to watch more of em' then! :)
Connie Kuroi Yeah they are really cool. My favorite was his RE 2 Lets Play.
Glad to see a more calm and thoughtful video, would love to see more critiques/analysis like this on other franchises and companies
resident evil 2 police hall theme in the background
Hey is re 2 coming out if so when and if for ps4?
Re 2 remake i mean?
I wish they would do another DinoCrisis.
"The original Resident Evil remake is the quintessential game."
I could not have said it better myself.
I really love that you inserted the Resident Evil save room theme into your video! Nice touch!
Remake RE2 and RE3. Give an option for classic camera angles and the new third person camera. Pleases the fans and brings in a lot of money!
FUCK.YES iv'e said the same thing for years now, im not a developer/programmer but surely its possible to have the option at least.
Do 2 camwaws in dish day an age? Derrrrr, how we do dat?
Can we please forward this & your Nintendo videos to the respected parties. Amen. Just found your channel recently but you speak the facts bro. Much love.
Damn, this video also sums up Dead Space really well. It fell apart after going after the action-shooter audience, and left the hardcore DS1 and DS2 fans like myself. They totally screwed everyone that loved the horror aspect.
dp3 feels to me like it has about the same amount of action plus a few human battles. .
But it did ruin the weapon upgrade system, lowering the fun value greatly.
This bgm you're using brings so many good memories... I really love RE, even the recent ones.
Alpha did you hear Capcom's latest shit? They said that resident evil's fans are too old and don't game anymore.. Like WTF I'm still in the early 20's and there are actually some fans under 20.. Long story short Capcom will make RE7 suck even more than the shitty new ones.
What happened to the RE Series really breaks my heart :(
The music in the backround reminds me so much of resident evil... It's so beautiful! R.I.P Resident evil. The 4th game was the last good RE game.
Resident Evil 7 is Capcoms last hope for the series.
And to think to that he was right 3 years ago is amazing.
You are one of the best you tubers out there and this video is proof. Would love to see you cover Siren in depth.
LOL such a serious talk with the save room theme playing .... Damn Omega, you know what's up
Sales for the REmake were less than what they wanted because the gamecube is an underrated classic, hey Capcom, rerelease REmake online on PSN. Xbox Arcade, and Steam and just see how it fucking sells
Man the Resi 2 police station music brings back memories, good memories, thanks alpha.
Does Capcom know what to do with the mega man series?
Two things.
1: Love the use of the music from Resident Evil 2!
2: LOVE your shirt! Hellsing is an AWESOME anime!
The RE series and Capcom have lost Shinji Mikami. The series is forever lost without him. The Evil Within is the new Resident Evil.
Sales for REmake were not good, but I don't think I have ever met someone who didn't like it.
Ragitsu Indeed, though sales do control the way the market develops :/
Resident Evil is where is at man. Grew up with RE3 and its my fav franchise hands down. Used to have nightmares when i was a kid, about Nemesis breaking through doors, chasing after me, lol. Good video, subbed.
Gtr43
My eBay order of Resident Evil 4 on the PS2 is coming in the mail on Friday the 13th. So excited!
In my opinion the only thing that can save this franchise is a complete reboot.
Agreed. Its too far gone to fix.
judging by the way the story has gone. they would have to reboot if they wanted that classic resident evil feel in the main games. the story no longer allows for this.
No. Reboots are stupid and are never needed. You don't need to reboot something to make it good again. Just make the gameplay like RE Remake and it will be great again. Resident Evil is hardly a story driven series so there is no point to reboot it continuity wise either.
pkstarstorm1up Tomb Raider is a good example
It didn't need it though.
5 is fun with a friend. Unbearable without.
I love the music playing as it captures the feel of Survival Horror.
How about just force the crap out of their brain and make it SCARY(still incomparable to old Silent Hill) and ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING DLC new Biohazard (I prefer the orginal name more than Resident Evil when it is not even in A HOUSE :L)
the new intro is so badass, alpha!
Do a video on the Silent Hill series!
Love the choice of back ground music alpha!
I wish resident evil can go back to the way it used to be
I've played and beaten RE4 for four different systems now, still love the game, and will continue to play it. I agree with all you say about 5 and 6, I honestly can't wait to see what "7" may hold. Thanks for the video!
Does Capcom Know What to do With Anything? Hell NO!
If you want Resident Evil 2 for pc Get a Free emulator like Project 64 1.6 or 1.7 ( Nintendo 64 Emulator ) then download the Nintendo 64 Rom at: coolrom.com/roms/n64/1142/Resident_Evil_2.php
the game runs smooth and it's easy to download and start once Project 64 has been installed, hopefully this is useful to play Re 2 on pc and if you do download it to Full Screen the Emulation just press Both Alt+Enter at the same time, also it is recommended to play real survival horror titles alone in the dark :) , cheers again for your alone in the dark reference, rock on!
Loved the RE2 save room / save music in the background in the beginning :3
RE2 and RE1 were my all time faves until I played Code Veronica...I know Most people throw it aside but Code Veronica really is a masterpiece imo
I agree , it's what a RE game should be. Simply Masterpiece and you expected a great final after CW. I really disappointed in RE4 when I saw Umbrella's downfall offscreen (or offgame :P). I never really like RE4, it's just a decent Action game with some horror elements.
Yeah, I also like Code Veronica.
The green PS3 game cover I see in the background, that's Katamari Forever, right? =)
This is why th Evil Within is going to succeed..... because it knows where its place is (survival horror) lol. And also because the original creator that made resident evil back in the day is running the project and it will be fucking nuts and down right fantastic! I'd like to see a good resident evil but I'd much rather have some one present to capcom what survival horror needs to be
Finally someone who knows what they're talking about, cool discussion dude.
anybody notice the hellsing shirt
You have a great mind for audience and what these companies need to focus on. I hope you ideas reach them somehow.
I think The Last of Us kinda nailed the whole survival-horror thing. I think RE should take a note of that.
Ragitsu I disagree, I'd say to an extent RE4 is even survival horror. I think a game can be survival horror even if it's action oriented. It's more about atmosphere and isolation to me.
Man Event Horizon is a terrible movie.
RE Gaiden was fun, you get to be THE Barry Burton!
It's not about being niche, it's that action games tend to make a lot more money and return investment is key.
it's about gree, they just want the milions of brats that every year pay 60$ or more to get the new COD or fifa
That's disappearing because people are waking up and knowing to not buy before they hear thorough reviews.
these days and
This is how desperate fangays and nostalgia fags are about this.
That would be Awesome.
Great critique of the franchise Sin, you summed up all the issues right here.
Luke Raven
I agree. Bring back Rebecca and Billy. We now know what happened to Sherry but how bout the two who were also there in the mansion incident, as well as Barry.
That's called, Tetris Horror. Totally different from Survival Horror.
JUST A MOMENT!!.. Just.. take-a-look-at-THIS!
"slowly raises up the middle finger to Capcom -_-"
*****
YES!
*****
It's different, granted I didn't play Outbreak and for that I regret.
***** Good to hear about Outbreak. I wouldn't say that because Nemesis would be random then that but at least its easier to run from Nemesis.
Hellsing T-shirt :D!
\m/
RE4 was the defining game that changed the landscape. I think that the film franchise in someway is also to blame. I know Capcom will closely keep an eye on how THE EVIL WITHIN will perform in sales and will make a decision over the Shoot em up zombie game or the suvival horror game.
I lost faith in the franchise I am sorry but there is no hope not without Shinji Mikami. The Evil Within is what I am interested. But I wont lie I actual wanted to buy re5 and re6 just because Resident Evil is something I still grew up with.
I just noticed half-way through the video the infamous Typewriter and box room music playing in the background
"were going after the COD crowd" meanwhile, COD fanboys are playing zombie modes...
Resident Evil Remake was great. I kinda like how RE4 looked like in the beginning! i liked RE4 but i think it would be cool if they let you play that version
If crapcom hadn't fired Shinji Mikami, RE wouldn't be anywhere near this point because he wouldn't have allowed it.
Indeed!
Corey Wilson Why would they fire the mastermind?! I love Capcom but wtf?
Because modern capcom is very unfriendly to all of their original fans. I mean, look at that part on DMC when the new dante gets hit with the silver wig that makes him look like the original. He straight up said I don't think so. That was a huge, alienating slap in the face of the original fans.
Corey Wilson I know all about the wig joke in the DMC reboot. Just to be accurate, he said "Not in a million years". Capcom trying to be the new EA?
Hell, I don't know what they're trying to be. And whatever he said, the point was that it was clearly an insult to the original dante.
I have never seen AlphaOmegaSin so serious, but as almost always, I agree 100% on this.
RE4 style gameplay with more horror and off-putting enemies and less ridiculous bullshit
You said what's been on my mind since RE4, I loved the game but I seen the changes coming. Thank's Alpha for being the voice of the RE gamers, let's just hope Capcom is listening. And as always, GAME THE FUCK ON!!!!!
Nintendo should just buy Capcom... they both need each other...
And lets just throw Sega in there for good measure...
Oh my god i love you're Alucard "hellsing" T-shirt.
***** It's the best RE release since REmake came out on the GC.
Kasumi St Cloud Re4 was a good game, didnt scratch my resi itch though.
Yes, I miss that "itchy tasty" itch....
Want to play poker while we wait for another good resi?
Apkans You're bluffing!
Did the background music put anyone else in the mood to play RE and/or bring back those great memories when you got the hell scared out of you playing!!
Its just sad to see my favorite franchise from the 90s ruined. I really think Capcom has not learned a thing and will continue to crash the franchise to the ground.
Has it really been Capcom that ruined Resident Evil? or is it the nostalgia the fanbase holds at 90s RE
RE4 was a fantastic game, but for me it was almost part of a different franchise
yes I agree and myself would throw in Code Veronica with those 3
Would love to see Dino Crisis redone in an re4 style!
All the styles they used were slightly different, or very different
They just don't know how to have us in suspense, they aren't cutting edge.
They're sellouts going for a bigger peice of the cake, dumbing the game down in order to market it with mass appeal.
They are intentionally moving away from us, us who made it great.
If they want to promise us they're making a game for us,
I say we make them a promise,
That they can go fuck themselves if they drop another bomb.
My name okay to correct you redident evil 1 was orginally on saturn then ps1 dreamcast then ps2 okay get ur shit straight
Love the music throughout the video mate,
Also don't forget the very very very first incarnation of RE4 actually turned into DMC1 (The directing for RE4 was originally headed by Hideki Kamiya but then Shinji Mikami came in and said the style is too departed from the RE series so make this a separate franchise).
RE4 was a Good Action horror game better then any RE action horro games like 5 and 6.
I Don't get people calling it survival horror.
Really loved this topic and video, brother!
Reboot and go back to survive horror.
***** What?
I am from the future and i am here to say that they did just that!
That save room music tho.
*****
what I meant by saying that those franchises are dead, but I didn't express myself correctly, was that the original idea around which each of those franchises were created has ended, died.
Rheinmetall1 Okay, I understand now. Thanks for the explaination.
Yep lol
that song was a really nice touch for this vid
resident evil 4 was going to not be action? wow that looks amazing make that version of 4 they need 4.5, 5.5 and 6.5 horror based
That version of 4 became the original Devil May Cry.
Plenty of ways for Gaben + Crapcum to rape us a little more,
aaaaaaand,
one more instance of me listing a reason publicly to be marked by a billionaire company for assassination... :D
:s
I wish more people spoke out about this so I wouldn't feel so alone...
...
:(
with resident evil 4 Leon was supposed to be infected and the story was him descending into madness
Was that when it was on that airship or something? Or later on when the current game was being worked on?
