Fiat's Panda aims at being all the car some buyers will ever need. It's large where it matters, yet still small enough for its urban purpose. It's more efficient - especially in its latest 1.0-litre mild hybrid form - yet can offer surprising reserves of performance. And you can make it high-tech - or specify one that's super-affordable. The Italians have always done this kind of thing very well. They still do.

Fiat is not a brand I have considered before, but I've been helping a colleague look for her first car on a budget, and we took one of these for a test drive; a TwinAir automatic. I was really rather impressed by this car, it reminded me of some radical cars of my youth in the 1970's, a combination of a Renault 4 and Citroen 2CV, but much updated and improved. As a mainly city car with young children, dropping off to school, city shopping, modest commuting I really rated it. So much so that I recommended she buy it. I just hope the old days of Fiat's being unreliable rust buckets are long behind us! 🙂

Very underrated tough little car. Still suffering FIAT woes of the 80s but very good little cars best at what Fiat do. Very easy to work on too.

A great little car, I hope your sister found a model she likes. That said, I think Fiat is crazy in not offering the 95 BHP diesel version. Petrol engines never seem to deliver anywhere near claimed economy figures. I have a 24 year old tuned Peugeot 306 TD which never drops below 50MPG, although I don't much like the £280 a year road tax !

I personally like the mark 2 design better the mark 3. The mark 3 looks a bit more like and old people car then the mark 2, atleast in my opinion. They are great little cars though; very reliable and you get so much bang for your buck.
