My little sister died 11 years ago, she was 18 at the time. Andy's music helped me get through it. This was her favourite song, it was played at her funeral. It's such a funny full circle moment, because so many times I didn't think I was strong enough to get through it. But Andy helped make sure I was.

Damn... This song is an ICONIC dance/club Anthem... I hate to admit I've enjoyed it for many years. Manchester Orchestra just kicked me in the head and took it in another direction and made it an AMAZING painfully heartfelt... do I say Anthem? Love Love Love all of MO's stuff. Right?! This should never have been a “pop” song. Cher is a powerful singer, but sometimes less is truly more. Andy nailed this with the emotional discretion it needed and gave it new life by interpreting the lyrics with the gravitas they carry.

Although I'm an Aussie, I only discovered DMA's in the early days of the pandemic - through their awesome lockdown cover of Better Be Home Soon. Thanks to the quirks of the TH-cam mix algorithm, I'm now a freshly-minted fan of MO too.

I never really listened to the lyrics before. Cher’s version was all about the dancing - and I still love the song for mad dancing. But listening to this rendition is extraordinary. One of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard so far this year ✨❤️✨
"Cher’s version was all about the dancing", not really. There's a counterpoint between the lyrics and the music. The music is a coping mechanism, the lyrics are her actual feelings.

Thanks for that elucidation. I should have said that for me, it was ‘all about the dancing’. And it WAS nominated for a Grammy as ‘best dance song’ after all. But your analysis is interesting and maybe I should have appreciated the lyrics more at the time. However, I stand by my assertion that Manchester Orchestra have recorded an outstanding cover and it gives the original a whole new and exquisite interpretation - and probably a whole new audience 🎉

Thank you for this! I have been wanting this song in this style for years after hearing the Mache Loved Bedhead version a decade ago. If anyone see this, I highly suggest their version as well. If I had visited the past and told myself "Someday you will be tearing up to Cher's Believe" I would have either thought "bullshit" or possibly "oh god what happens to me" but you know what...nope, this is just that strong a switchup of the mood.
