HI Hemingway. Thanks for bringing this to our attention! The pen is beautifully designed and definitely feels like it offers the sensation of filling a fountain pen. I agree that the ability to change the color by changing the reservoir is very cool! Copic Markers use to make a metal alloy fine liner pen that could be refilled with proprietary reservoirs but only with black ink. This is a much better solution.
I have the mini version of this pen & I absolutely love it. Glad to see you covering it. It’s not often I encounter a stationery product that feels this original.
Thank-you for doing this review. An ad for this pen showed up in my Facebook feed, and I was intrigued. I think the goal is not to replace our Pilot Custom 823, but to replace the disposable pens everyone else uses. That is a tall order at that price, but who knows? Thanks again.
Hello HJ. Such a different video. I applaud your courage for expanding out of the normal. I believe that some of your viewers will dare to take a chance on this and purchase one for themselves. Unfortunately, I didn't get excited for obtaining one for myself. Very versatile pen for those who are more artistic than I. Great video. Keep them coming my friend.
Thank you very much for reviewing this. An ad popped up, and I was very curious. But the fact it can't handle shimmer or sheen is a deal breaker for me.
My partner bought me one of the mini versions just out of the blue. It's a bold move, trying to buy something for one of my passions - pens, bikes, cameras, RC planes etc, but she really hit the mark with this one! It's now part of my EDC.
I like the simple design and certainly versatile. Too many tiny bits for me and at that price, too much DIY, not enough YDI. Kudos to Tom's Studio though. Thanks, HJ!
1. Thanks for the drawing and drawing-adjacent content. My favorite. 2. I understand the great handiness of a brush pen out in the wild. In the studio, I'm happy with actual brushes, with longer bristles. 3. I wonder how long the cotton elements last, but perhaps they are cheap enough for that to be inconsequential. 4. Good luck with your drawing. Drawing is what keeps me going in my retirement.
Thanks My Friend for watching. I am trying to expand my reach a little bit. I consider this to be fountain pen adjacent. They sell cheap replacements for the cotton elements. I would think that you might want multiples for each color. That’s what I plan on doing. Thanks for the kind words on drawing. You will see more on this Channel very soon.
A truly fascinating creation!!!! It would not be for me as it would not "feel" like a fountain pen, but for anyone using technical pens or fine liners, it would be awesome. If I had the skills to draw, it might be worth the investment, but I would have to compare the cost to the price of a number of Sakura-Pigma or similar pens. Great review!
I don't own a brush pen and I am getting back into drawing and calligraphy. Only thing that scares me is the disassembly, although I'm sure I could handle it. Perhaps this pen will be the next one I buy.
What a excellent and thorough review! 🥰 I knew there was a catch to this pen. I saw this on my Facebook feed and the marketing was saying this could replace a standard biro. I might just stick to my dip pens.
Love Tom’s Studio. I own their pocket pen and is one of my primary fountains in my top 10 that I have out. This pen looks like it is right up my alley. with the calligraphy brush and is for my new hobby I am going to get one. I agree with you that the pen is not the prettiest pen in the books, but I think it is for Art and not Style, lol. Thank you for the video.
great review, I don't have one yet but apparently if you have multiple of them you can screw them into each other and get different colour combinations that way. It would definitely make them look more interesting. I wish they would let you pick and choose colour combinations on the website though.
Thanks HJ, for the pro review. I started with a Lumos Mini that I acquired in July last year. The Mini is a single tip, and at under 4" in length, I think it's best suited to drawing rather than writing at least in my large hands. Because of that, I decided to go ahead and I got the Lumos Write, which is 6" in length plus as a single it has a larger reservoir than either the mini or pro. The whole point of his pens was to reduce & minimize waste and the environmental impact that waste makes.
I wish them and you well in product acceptance, however I bought their handsome pocket pen with high end flex nib, and it’s been scratchy and feed problematic throughout. I’m a little gun-shy.
You are so welcome! My discount code should still work. It’s in the description. It would help the Channel and should make it a bit less. Thanks! Good Luck with whatever you decide!
I had used one a few years back, it didn't have a dual nib, but it had a bad habit of drying out, so I stopped using it. I hope that they figured out a way to stop the dry out. The one I had wasn't from Tom's -- I honestly can't remember where it was from, been a long time. I wish it had a cartridge instead of a fabric insert.
There is something endearing about a pen with 'some assembly required.' It's not for me though. With the exception of crude stick figures, I have no drawing capabilities. Thank you for the review, HJ. "The Entertainer" was an appropriate score for the video.
Serendipity! I am also re-engaging the younger artist, buried alive by life's responsibilities many moons ago. For me, it's ink and watercolour nature and urban sketching. On the subject, it's an interesting concept, a bit too involved for me, but still a cool pen nonetheless.
@@HemingwayJones Many fountain pen enthusiasts use them for the arts. Though penmanship is as much a form of artistic expression as it can be utilitarian.
@@ichirofakename I can't really give a preference because I've only used a platinum preppy with carbon black ink. I bought an extra fine and fine just for that application because I feared getting carried away and damaging my nicer nibs. My intention is to eventually get something with a bit of flex maybe something from needlers 🤷. Do you have any suggestions?
I have been looking at this pen, and would love to have one! The idea of 2 nibs in one pen is intriguing, just have to look at cost. Thanks for this great review. I want to do some reviewing myself. First, as an artist, I want to know how it works with other media. Love Microns, but they don't like every surface I want to draw on.
I have been gesitant about this pen because I read a review that said the tips do not last long. This is what put me off from buying one. Can anyone validate approximately how long the tips last? I'm primarily thinking of the 0.5, 0.8 mm tip sizes. I just plan to use this as my everyday carry pen - not excessive writing. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Have a nice weekend everyone.
A few minor negatives I noticed: This pen will roll. No clip. A clip would help keep the pen from rolling, let alone let you clip it with something. I think it would be awesome if they sold a clip for this at least to add on like Kaweco, that or have some way for the pen to not roll on its own.
@@ichirofakename Yeah, but the issue then is you definitely would want a clip to clip it on yourself or something due to a lot of movement. Its why I think a slide on clip like Kaweco's would really be ideal for whether you want one or not.
I bought one a couple years ago and screw-on cap on it is corroding. Maybe they fixed it in never version. The whole pen is unimpressive and has a cheap feeling to it. I think metal Copic Fineliners are a better deal at $10. And you can replace tips and recharge them also. I see that others don't like Copic but that is a personal choice.

I agree with this. It's aimed at the artist, specialist, and those curious like me. It cannot replace a fine fountain pen. Thanks for watching!
Looks fun, I hope they will make lil more bulky alternative too

Pretty cool!! You lost me at "no shimmer inks" though. Ha ha

to Tom's Studio though. Thanks, HJ!
Thanks For Watching! There are a lot of parts. I wrestled with indecision.
I actually just got mine and I already sort of love it for the fineliner aspect. I loaded it with some Troublemaker Inks and it writes wonderfully.
That’s great!
Tom' Studio what a great company! I ordered twice.
They truly are. Lovely people too. Very inspiring.

I think that it is beautiful in its simplicity. My issues are cost and the mini is a little too short. It supposed to replace the ball point pen...
I have 3 of Tom’s pens, they are all great!
