    Did 200km Saturday, towards the end of the ride bought a can of Heinz (I am posh) Beans with a ring pull and drank them. My friends reckon that's not normal... but they've never ridden that far before. Jersey now has orange stains..

    I have used the term 'empty calories' for a long time. Too often we just eat to satisfy hunger cravings and get full only to find that we are hungry again. That is because we have not provided our body with proper nutrients. The problem is that much of what gets consumed has little or no nutritional benefit (i.e. fuel for the body) and we just want more because the body doesn't get satisfied. Furthermore, the portions get larger and so does our waistline. Calorie counting does not work. What does work is consuming food that provides proper nutrition for the body in the right portions. Your comment about exercising is exactly right - when we exert large amounts of energy (such as in cycling) we require 'refueling' of the cells to build them back up again with nutritional benefit. I'm no expert, I've just lived it.

    This is such good and sound advice. I always tell people to eat as many fruits and/or vegetables as they want- they really won't want to over indulge. Eat no packaged foods, and cycle and get as much exercise as possible. Your body adjusts, and as you stated, cravings go away. Your soup and noodles looked divine. (I can't get enough Sriracha sauce). Thank you for another fabulous video.

    This is great Katie. I'm starting on my weight loss journey making cycling a big part of it and because of work going to be living in a hotel 3-4 nights a week. They pay for meals but you know how hard it is to get healthy restaurant food. There's a big PureGym next to the hotel and a Sainsbury's across the road so just picked up a portable induction hob can make this soup in the hotel room. Thanks!

    Lots of good sense. Plants are so important. A huge plate of plants has few calories and makes me feel full. The calories in, calories out thing happens naturally if we avoid food with the fibre removed - except when burning lots of energy. For me, backpacking is the one time I eat junk. Dried kale is wonderful after a few days on packets and well worth putting in the rucksack. Great video. Thank you.

Had a look through what I'm eating and mostly freshly cooked from scratch. Just swapped out the bickies for fruit. Took on your breakfast too and its really nice. Peace out heywood neighbour 👍

    I cycle around 350 kms a week and I'm lucky in that I can eat almost what I like. My weight has remained at a constant 80 kgs since i stopped playing rugby over 25 years ago. I eat a lot of healthy food, fruit, veg and lean meat but, still like a beer or two! It's moderation that is key and knowing your own body. I've always worked on the "eat little and often" theory and never feel like you are bloated. Eat less and move more are the key elements to weight loss!

    Sticking to a set number of calories every day can work for a lot of people and did work for me. I also have EDs and the only way I could stop the binge purge behaviour was eating the same daily. But my exersise was also very consistent (CrossFit 6 days a week) The key to not binging is as you’ve said a sustainable calorie deficit 🙌🏻. No more than 500 calorie deficit. Most of the time if I diet it’s only 200-300 cals under. Binging happens when you go way too far under.
    You definitely would have struggled on the 1500 as you cycle so much. But someone that exercises a lot less and is maybe shorter.. 1500 might be 500 under their maintenance.

    • @sportybeth
      @sportybeth 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will add. My diet calories are 1900-2100 because I’m tall and muscular. For a lot of people it’s much higher but the shorter you are and the less muscle mass you have the less you have to eat to diet.

    This is great advice Katie.... BMR: basal metabolic rate is the calories burnt at rest everyday just lying in bed doing nothing that's for your heart to beat and your body to do what it needs to do, loose weight, etc..... You need calories to get to any goals you have ... Once someone is having this basic amount calories they would fuel up as required. If you've got a long way to go you got fuel up like a car. And depending on the person's metabolism and how active you are like you say in vid you'd adjust it adequately. 😜🙃

    What do you think about Durianrider and Freelee and Rawtill4 ?

  • @johnnydoe66
    @johnnydoe66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's the biggest issue with weight loss, people want instantaneous results and aren't patient. I also heard that your body isn't designed to shred large amounts of weight, you'll end losing muscle mass along with fat if you "starve" yourself in order to lose weight quickly. A friend's Dad told me that his Dr. said your body is capable of losing 10lbs in a month, but not every single month. It will essentially plateau and then at the end of the second month you'll begin to lose the next 10lbs. The plateau is where most people get discouraged and quit. He had a heart attack and began eating healthy, but stuck with the 10lbs every other month goal and ended up losing almost 80 lbs over the course of 2 yrs.
    Katie, you did it right with a long term weight loss plan and remaining patient and steadfast.

    Area too. Although actually no idea now 6 years into cleaner eating. I’m as flat a weight as durian rider. Within same kilo or same couple of pounds annually. 4 rides 90 mins to 2 hours 30. Per week. Shove another 1k calories in starchy carbs ride days over non ride days. Maybe 2250
    To 2500 off days 3250 to 3500 riding days. That kinda thing. Odd bag 180 gram sugar for rides jelly babies . Job done. When Don’t ride 5 days around crimbo abroad just eat low 2s / 2000s calories a day. Job done. People over think it. Walk run job climb stairs. Eat lean low fat high carb. Never hard.

    I love this! Dr Doug Lisle and Dr Greger really helped me come to terms with the fact that it was okay I can't run a huge calorie deficit. I aim for around 2000, sometimes it's as low as 1500 but most of the time it's between 1800-2200 which is about where I need to be for my weight. Our bodies have an incredible ability to balance themselves when fed proper food.

I get major gut reactions resulting in “ emergency bathroom rushes several times a day, it’s impossible for me to stick to in those conditions.. the hclf thing definitely works for a lot of people but absolutely is not for me, I’ve proven it to myself too many times for anyone else to convince me otherwise.. rice oatmeal and any kind of bean are the worst of the bunch for me digestively

    Cycling at a reasonable rate is gonna burn 300 to 600 cals per hour, ok a good turbo sesh and you'll push a 1000. So simply time in the saddle is gonna burn cals as will any form of exercise, including walking. I think that once you get beyond doing maybe 2 sessions a week and 2 hrs a week your body tends to realise it needs food as fuel for the exercise. Its almost like your body realises it is no longer about laying on a bit of fat and processing the extra out the other end, it actually has something it needs to do with those carbs. It would be intersting to understand how that affects the body. It must improve and all sorts of systems, we are not designed to sit around for as long as we do. Once your system starts to react I find it is really good at letting you know when you need to eat, I dont necessarily feel hungry after an ride effort, but my body says eat something afterwards and boy do my legs appreciate it. Cals in and cals out is unfortunately a hard fact( OK some wierd medical exception arguments) , but calorie restrictive is not the way. Dieting alone is difficult. Moderate regular exercise really helps your body work it out for itself in my experience.

  • @calllightnin7153
    @calllightnin7153 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Basically, don't eat processed foods, reduce fat intake, eat whole foods as much as possible, and read ingredients.
    Personally, I avoid GMO foods like the plague that they are, which includes most packaged drinks and most processed foods, or basically anything made with (non-organic) corn or soy.
    Also, I tend to put on weight when I go through a period of drinking (I usually don't drink--I mean alcoholic beverages) so it would follow that *not drinking* would help with weight loss. Other things to look at might be ice cream, and/or junk food. I think it's okay to splurge on junk food once in a while, just not all the time.

    How long have you been eating this healthily? Do you have any treat days? How do you maintain discipline-an old photo?- do you only cook for one person or more? Are you a vegetarian?

    At the end of the day. Food is meant to be fuel. Sure you can enjoy it but if it's not simple to make you are much less likely to stick to it ( unless you're Gordon Ramsey ). I like your style of dieting and I can respect the discipline you've got to stick with it. Can't say I could stick to it but that's just down to my lack of will power.

    What about the days when you’re in a rush, no time for make up and hardly time to eat? I was vegan for 4 months at the start of the year. When I could plan, it was brilliant. When I was rushed it was so difficult. I just ate bananas to stay true to the vegan lifestyle. I’m sure I’ve seen on a vlog you eat an energy bar in a baguette! 😂

    Interesting to watch as I'm a person with excess weight. Done Veganism in the 1980's and failed it miserably, ended up living on peanut butter and Barmene! Could go back to a vegetarian diet as I'm pretty well there. I was once a member of the VC&AC and a decent cyclist / runner. but I'm rather chubby these days. This Pandemic has started to shake the fatties up, one good thing about it

    People Its simple maths, 2500cals (there abouts) for a man just to survive a day, one hard (1 hour) 20 mile ride will burn 1000cals do that 4 times a week, at this point your effectively going 2 full days with no food you are at this point very calorie deficient, any body will loose weight and quickly. Cycling is a form of HIT if your not dripping your not doing it right, and when shins a sweating you know you've worked really hard. Intermingle that with kettlebells, the fat will drop off regardless of what you're eating. No need to go vegan or anything else unless you want to. Infact going vegan can be just as bad if done wrong as alot is supplemented with a-lot of olis and sugur's. My advice is eat what you know to begin with and mix in the odd healthy vegan meal. Some vegans i know have some of the most unhealthy diets going its not a sure fire way.
    Biggest mistake people make is binge eating after a hard effort let the body suffer stay hungery force it to use the stores it has the body will always go for the easy option. Have a tin of pears waiting in the fridge when you get back replaces all the sugers nice and quick. Then have a good meal later after a bath or shower.
