    Glad you caught a train at the end of the video with the old EMD locomotive sounds.

    I often see your movies, they are fantastic! You have a great instinct to find the best way to film trains and the best view of the landscape. Also this last movie
    it is the demonstration! Congratulations Zachary, you're very good.

    A lot of less well known scenes which made it very interesting for me. The videography was superb! You sure found nice scenes and shooting angles.

    • @RailfanJunction
      @RailfanJunction  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ed! Yes the Tehachapi scene is overcrowded nowadays and it is difficult to get to unusual spots because of it being all ranch land. So it is a challenge to bring something different. I'm glad that you found it interesting.

      It really was unexpected even though we knew the Lathrop was in the area. Didn't make for a great photo but sure was interesting for video!

    Great cinematography! Up close shots are good but the wide landscape -- train (s) moving through the landscape is wonderful as they are long and in Tehachapi long shots show the gradient, the winding nature of that landscape that bring railroading to life!!! And low angle light -- best part!!

      Thanks Maurice- been busy with school and the weather hasn't been good for chasing trains out here much lately. I'm not the type to go sit trackside and shine my headlights on trains at night.

    Awesome camera work! Keep it up! Just out of curiosity, whats up with the 2nd engine in the very last shot at 1:37:55. It seems to be constantly winding up and down. Guess there is something wrong with it?

    • @RailfanJunction
      @RailfanJunction  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the positive comments! I have no idea what is wrong with the unit except to say that burning oil is pretty standard for Trona locomotives. It is still a pretty steep grade right there even though it looks flat so I would imagine the engine is being overtaxed by the hill, which may be complicated by bad seals (but I'm not a mechanic).

    36:37 Does it look like 2 of the axles of the BNSF hopper derailed at the switch???

  • @orgcoast

    Do the trains headed for LA have to go out to Barstow and come back via Cahon?

    • @sjrailfan35
      @sjrailfan35 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not for UP Trains in this case. For BNSF the outbound trains usually end at Barstow for manifests and go towards Chicago for their intermodal and same direction for grain trains. The lines split in Mojave and the UP Trains go via Lancaster direction towards Palmdale and use the Palmdale Cutoff track on Cajon Pass.

    Very nice set of videos. Why the choice of HD over 4k, just out of interest?

    • @RailfanJunction
      @RailfanJunction  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because people complain that upscaling to 4k is not the same as 4k. The footage is still uploaded in that manner.

    • @psyko2260
      @psyko2260 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think that should be Cajon.

    • @RailfanJunction
      @RailfanJunction  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Darryl, yes Barstow is the point of origin for all mixed freight into and out of the LA basin on the BNSF. These trains must travel by way of Cajon to get into the LA Basin.

    • @Spanky214

      I heard that noise around 54min.

    • @RailfanJunction
      @RailfanJunction  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It probably was a pair of dump trucks that were leaving the Allard area. UP seems to have started work on double tracking the area around Tunnel 2 and 2 big trucks that vibrated the road went through right around this time of the video.
