Hello. Mine had oil in it from the factory. Dipstick showed at dot 2. Now it shows full with maybe 1/4 of the supplied bottle added. What is wrong with Honda’s quality control? If I just did what instructions said, the mower would be going back to store.
Mine had no level on the dipstick out of the box. I pour ~ 3/4 of the bottle, started it, let it run for ~5 min, waited another 15 min then added enough to bring it up to full. This isn't rocket science. Owner's manual says they run the engines (stress test?) then drain them. Amount remaining will vary.

I've been around small engines (and cars/bikes) long enough to rely on my own experience. Fill to the top mark of the dipstick and call it a day.

The higher the better as long as it has less than or equal to 10% Ethanol (E10) or 5% Methanol by volume.

GeePeeZee I would like to see where it says that in the manual. The pull on the cord says the engine has no oil and to add entire bottle.
