    Be advised that I updated my video due to some loud audio and didn’t realize that when you do that it kills any comments that were attached to the earlier version video. Sorry for any inconvenience. I’m still learning the ins and outs of TH-cam.

      @@glbaker5595 I am getting about 2.7 mpg at 9 mph.

      @@MV_Checkmate Thanks for that reply to glbaker5595. I am not familiar with your particular model of boat. What is your tank size? I guess the better question is, how often have you had to stop for fuel along the trip so far? I'm loving following along with you, by the way. Found your channel yesterday and I'm already at Episode 7. I found you because a video popped up with you staying along the Free Anchorage in Joliet which is my hometown. By the way, doing the loop is one of my bucket list items. I just need to retire first.

      @@gtolars I hold 350 gallons of diesel. I try and top off my tanks when I get down to about 1/2 to 3/4. The amount changes each month based upon how much I run or if I puts around. If you’re trying to get an estimate of a yearly budget, then it’s 6000-ish miles at about 2 mpg.

    I'm sorry it was so rough on anchorage. The view was priceless, but now i know not to anchor there. You are doing such a great job.

    Looks like you're making some quick progress along the loop. I'm a Hudson River boater and I'll be at my marina just north of Newburg, NY tomorrow, 6/5. Let me know if you'll be in the area and I'll buy you lunch or dinner.

    Better to anchor behind the Statue of Liberty. Not as rolly. But during the day, with all the tour boat and ferry traffic, the entire harbor is pretty rough. Settles down at night.

    Great video, thank you. Looks like you have really become a master of docking, squeezing in and out of that marina in New Jersey with strong currents and a tight maneuvering area. Too bad about the anchorage off the Statue of Liberty -- if you had gone to one of the marinas across from NYC in New Jersey, you would have had a pleasant night and would have gotten a gorgeous view of all of Manhattan at night, from downtown through midtown. Going through New York Harbor can be stressful -- I came down the Hudson and went around the tip of Manhattan and up the East River once in a pelting rainstorm with ferries, tugboats, pleasure yachts and miscellaneous commercial boats racing everywhere.
    Very hairy. Enjoy the Hudson -- it is magnificent. Highly recommend an overnight in Kingston -- charming, scenic town. Town dock in Troy is a great overnight stop, wonderful architecture, many terrific cafes nearby.

    Liberty Landing Marina is right there on the other side of Ellis Island, just to the northwest. Very calm in there. I was at that marina for 7 years and lived on my boat there.

    I did a statue of liberty run last fall, it was great. I anchored in the little lagoon just west of the statue ("liberty state park" I think?) which was nice and calm despite the 20kt southerly. There was a fast tour boat or shuttle boat that went ripping through about once an hour, but otherwise it's a great spot.
    If you aren't already north of West Point, you should plan some lingering-time into that day. It's glorious. After I passed I turned around and passed downriver and turned around and went upriver again. I don't care where you're from, you've never seen so much granite in all your life.

      @@MV_CheckmateBowline is a public anchorage. It’s tricky getting into as there are rocks/bricks by the north side of entrance. Stay close to south shore at inlet. We’ve gone there many times.

    How did ya get from Virginia to New Jersey?
    Why do you "park" you boat instead of anchor, moor, tie up, etc?

    • @MV_Checkmate
      @MV_Checkmate  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I went up the Chesapeake to the C&D canal then hopped over to Cape May NJ.
      Easy answer to why I said “Parked” instead of anchored, at that moment I was I no mood to be there videoing while the boat was thrashing about and I found myself just rambled on. I wasn’t concerned about semantics.
      thanks for watching.

    • @hterrebrood
      @hterrebrood 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Naw, you have said ‘parked’ from the beginning. It is a nomenclature that is not yet natural. Not a big deal.

    You've got to do me a favor. You say you parked your boat....you either dock it, tie her up, or anchor her. Sorry to be that guy but I'm that guy in this case 😂. I'm enjoying your channel otherwise!

    • @MV_Checkmate
      @MV_Checkmate  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I understand completely. My reason for probably saying parked was that I was in no mood for recording a video while the boat was thrashing around, and probably just rambled on and said, parked as opposed to anchored. Sometimes you just have to throw semantics out the window.
      Thanks for watching
