You won't get as much Resolution as obviously more modern Glass. What you do get though is a unique look. Using these lenses on the original camera or not doesn't mean much, just enjoy shooting with whatever, and if it looks good, great! 😎🤘🎥🔥
No doubt about it! Back in the day the Taks were cheaper compared to bayonet mount FDs, AE-1 combos. My first camera was Pentax mount m42 & it was a pain to switch lenses. But the glass was golden and build standards were/are superb! Generally slower lenses...although 50 1.4 & 55 2 are fast. Sidebar: what’s your fav/current build for ftp 5k anamorphic?
Interesting! I'm using Danne's latest build from here: bitbucket.org/Dannephoto/magic-lantern_jip_hop_git/downloads/ I use 5K FRTP, 16:9 set in Tab 3, and 10 Bit Enabled.
The lens emits only smal amounts of harmless alpha radiation at the rear. There is no risk of fogging film, damaging a sensor or bodily harm. Read all about it in my book on Asahi Pentax cameras and Takumar lenses.
@@robertb.3651Nope, Thorium is a pure α emitter. That also makes sense as β and γ radiation would fog your film in no time. By the way α radiation, although perfectly harmless in most cases (it can't penetrate healthy skin and is stopped even by a simple piece of paper), can be very harmful if particles are ingested or inhaled.
It's the Super Multi-Coated Takumar that's right. It was a long title so I shortened it back then without realising the 8-element was also named Super.
Both are really good. Takumar looks more Cinematic with more character, the FD is natural and produces organic looking images, not too digital looking. Both are good quality, FD has better flare control and neutral colours, whereas takumar may seem a little warm if the glass isn't treated.

There are reports of lenses with radioactivity for refractive index Please refrain from using it and keep your health safe. Lee, who loves content, sends you
Simon's utak made a thorough review on radioactive lenses, and how dangerous they are. Basically, you are in harm's way only when you keep them on your body (in your pocket), or sleep with them. Even then, you need to have it in your pants for 1 year full time to get in trouble. You are exposed to more radiation from a single plane flight than from using this lens properly for a year.

Cheapest is $143 Aussie mate, not sure where you got yours
eBay, gotta keep an eye out.
I have this lens adapted to my Fuji X-S10 and want to know, shall I have this in auto or manual mode? Thanks mate!
Auto on the lens
@@ZeekEOSZ Even if it's a manual focus lens? TY
@@mattcero1 there's an auto switch on the lens, that's what I though you meant haha. If it's a manual lens, then yes, manual mode 😎👍🍻
@@ZeekEOSZ Ok, thanks x 2 man!
I heard from a professional photographer when you use these vintage lenses on a modern digital camera it losses the picture quality, he me told to use those lenses with the original camera. Can you confirm if its true? Greetings
You won't get as much Resolution as obviously more modern Glass. What you do get though is a unique look.
It's just a hobby really, you'd obviously use top notch lens for a serious photography shoot, but as a hobby, who cares!
Using these lenses on the original camera or not doesn't mean much, just enjoy shooting with whatever, and if it looks good, great! 😎🤘🎥🔥
How is the focus breathing behaves when shooting videos?
Great video, looks very nice with the white EOS canon. If it has ois, I will buy one for all my Taks. Thanks
😎👌🎥🔥
Where can i buy this
which adapter did you use for M42 - FE ??
M42 to EF (Canon EF Mount) 👍
@@ZeekEOSZ thank you!!
I'm using Danne's latest build from here:
bitbucket.org/Dannephoto/magic-lantern_jip_hop_git/downloads/
I use 5K FRTP, 16:9 set in Tab 3, and 10 Bit Enabled.
@@ZeekEOSZ thanks Zeek!
Does that adapter have any play on Metabones XL?
Nope, tight as a glove.
The lens emits only smal amounts of harmless alpha radiation at the rear. There is no risk of fogging film, damaging a sensor or bodily harm. Read all about it in my book on Asahi Pentax cameras and Takumar lenses.
Wrong - beta and gamma too !!!
Hi your video title says super takumar, but you review the super multi coated 7 element? The super takumar is usually the 8 element!
It's the Super Multi-Coated Takumar that's right. It was a long title so I shortened it back then without realising the 8-element was also named Super.
Thank you for another great video.
No problem 😎👍
Hello, I want to buy the super takumar 50mm 1.4 and I want to compare it with the canon 50mm 1.4 lens, which do you think is of better quality.
Both are really good. Takumar looks more Cinematic with more character, the FD is natural and produces organic looking images, not too digital looking. Both are good quality, FD has better flare control and neutral colours, whereas takumar may seem a little warm if the glass isn't treated.
Hi Zeek. Stumbled on your channel and have been hooked ever since. Have a similar question…Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 vs Pancolar 50mm 1.8. If you had to make one choice…which would you pick?
@@cosmashono7665
Tak is super nice, but based on colour rendition, I'd go with Zeiss Pancolar.
hey did you import it from overseas? i bought one but i'm a bit worried it wont make it through customs because of its radioactivity. im in australia too btw
I did, I believe Japan. There shouldn't be any issues with custom.
@@ZeekEOSZ thanks so much for the reply :D ok that puts me at ease haha
Fantastic video thanks.
Can we put it on the sony e mount?
hey, is it micro 4/3rds?
What about the problem with the mirror in the 5d mkII?
No issues, works like a treat! Pentax K is the one I'd be worried about, not M42 mount.
@@ZeekEOSZ I have M42 version and I'm having this issue 😔
@@docshadrach Are you in using the same Takumar version? Sometimes there are V2 or Type 2 M42 to EF Adapters for particular M42 lenses.

@@ZeekEOSZ So I will try this type 2 adapter.. Are you using this? thx!
@@docshadrach I am yes. I am using a black version I mentioned in this video.

8-Element. Tak sharp wide open! But this one for the price is magnificent 🎥🔥

I WILL BUY THE 8 ELEMENTS

No problem man! Hope to do more lens reviews or tests soon comparing all my lenses 😎🙌🎥🔥🔥
@@ZeekEOSZ EXELENT BRO AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH
I absolutely love it
It's too good haha! 😎👌🎥💎🔥
No idea how you found one in such good nic for so cheap!
Isn’t this the one that’s radioactive?
Yep. It's not as bad as it sounds though 😆🤘
I was close to buying one but gave up because of that. Fantastic quality!
I did research prior. I believe it's absolutely fine. But each to their own. Great quality lenses! 😎👌
Thx, great review Zeek. I had my eye on this but I'm not happy getting a radioactive lens. Could well I'm just silly. To other readers : please don't dicide not to get this because of me.
I understand, trust me. I had one years ago and was so tempted to sell it after reading about it. I did end up doing it haha. I'm over it now though after long research...😎👍
@@ZeekEOSZ Sorry for digging up an old comment, but I just ordered this lens on ebay, and then saw a few videos/articles about its radioactivity. And thus feel a bit concerned now. So, in short, are all the statements about this lenses' radioactive harm over-exadurated or not?
@@fellowcook7746 Overexaggerated. If it has yellowing it has radioactivity, but the chances of its effects are highly low. Users have made videos explaining this.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you 👍
9:33 why is this cow shaking her shoulder? surprising! xD
Wouldn't have a clue ;)
It's a jewel but emitts gamma ray from the back glass.
It's also radioactive. So yeah, that's cool.
Yep. 👌🍿
Can’t be too good !
O, like this lins. later, I think about by this, and by priceflex reflex 135mm because I like flex... Hallo from Russia, and sorry about my language;)
No problem! 135mm is a nice focal length for cinematic compression. Takumar are awesome, I've owned the non-multicoated version but I like SMC better. 😎👍🎥🔥
One more thing, l live in Russia, and can by vintage Soviet lins for you, for a very low price 💁🏿♂️
Haha, thanks for the offer. Appreciate it! I still use and love the Helios 44-2! I'll probably be on the lookout for another cheap Russian lens. Cheers! 😎🙌
contact me, I can tell you about interesting samples, I have a small collection
Thank you ☝️💯
*laughs in 8 element.
This lens is ok, but there are so many better lenses for m42.
It's NOT a Super Takumar! It's a Super Multi Coated Takumar! You mislead people with your title. I came here to see a review of the Super Takumar 50mm f1.4 because that's what you said! Wasted my time.
Lol he's right about the lenses being different but lol 😅dude also needs to relax lol
Really? How ironic. How much of the video did you watch? If your time is so valuable why leave a comment?
Comments, both positive and negative help the channel. Glad to help the channel and to waste more of your time if you have read my reply.
I just got at thrift store for $30.
Que asco, pura publicidad.
Por lo dices?
