INFO: Syd Barrett was a guitarist, singer/songwriter and painter from Cambridgeshire, UK. He was well known for being the founding member of the rock band giant Pink Floyd, but he has later been known as a cult-icon because of his strange life story and eerie solo-records. Where did you find out about that?
It's a story from the time Floyd opened up for hendrix for a couple tours. Hendrix was older and always gave advice to new bands. As for Hendrix drug use. . . His ex band mates say it was a total myth he took acid onstage or tripped while playing live. U can't play at a high level stoned. Even the grateful dead had a strict policy about drugs while performing. They had a saying, "never show up to the studio or a shoe drunk or stoned"
So many myths about bands drug use. They were people just like u or me. And just like u or me we all have that 1 friend or acquaintance who goes too far. If these friends had been rock stars they'd be dead or burnt out like the rest of the Syd Barrets or Keith Moons of the world.

If you’ve taken acid you have an idea off where he was and where he went everyone who has taken a lot off acid especially over a week or two straight you will know you get a temporary mind fuck as doing it in my late teens for two weeks straight and over two hundred tabs and a lot off help understood where he went and it’s a weird wonderful mental place to be and you do lose interest in everything and forgot that your Evan alive if you know you know

i do love that David and Roger continued to indulge Syd's musical ambitions by paying for studio time, acting as session players, and even producing. we'll never know if it was more out of a sense of guilt but I'd rather think Gilmour was the most fundamental kind of friend one could have.

Their contract allowed 24/7 access to the studio...so I don't think helping out their childhood mate was such a financial disaster. Yes, it must have been difficult as Barrett was going through a lot, but that's why friends try to help friends no matter how it looks to others.
Barrett, Waters and Gilmour were childhood and teenage friends. I'm sure it was hard for everyone to watch their friend suffer.
I never really tried to dig deeper into the life of Syd Barrett. Today, I watched this video and now I don't know how to stop crying. I can't even imagine what he might have gone through. It breaks my heart that how tough life was for some of the legendary musicians, who blessed us with some extraordinary music.

It is sad and people keep blaming acid or schizophrenia and I never thought about it before but I think it might have been early onset dementia! I havent listened to Pink Floyd in years was a huge fan as a kid around 2007 but my grandma passed away a few years ago and she had dementia. And how Roger Waters described Syd's condition it sounds exactly like dementia. And people can develop it early in their 20's.
@@montanaedits9995 But his sister (who looked after Syd for some years) said in a recorded interview that Syd was OK. That he was never diagnosed with a psychiatric condition. She gave an explanation (if you're interested in the exact words, search it in TH-cam) something like he had a very creative mind (not crazy) that after having lots of LSD his mind went into chaos. Yet, I don't recall if Gilmour or Waters (or both) stated that it was schizophrenia, and that his deterioration was accelerated by the use of LSD.
@@montanaedits9995 yes, there are many different conditions that may have contributed to his downfall. I’ve read somewhere he was diabetic. Diabetes can affect your mental state, as well. Who, knows. RIP, Syd.
I was passionately in love with the writing of Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd. There was something slightly not quite with us about syd that appealed to me strongly. There was a peter pan quality about him

David Bowie actually had some madness in his family - his half brother Terry was kept in an institution- and later killed himself. Bowie dabbled in drugs throughout his career but adamantly refused to touch LSD, due to its mind bending influence that could've tipped him over the edge.

It is indeed the most haunting photo of the man, and there are hundreds of earlier photos -- man of them also quite eerie -- of him documenting various stages of his tragic disintegration.
50years later its still hard for people with mental health problems to get proper help. No matter how rich, old or race you belong to..
It's hard to change people's thinking, and even harder to change their actions. Here in Norway
there's also a lot of change that needs to be done in that field.
Someone should have kept him balanced with the types of drugs he was on. To each their own but anyone who knows about certain drugs they can be just as dangerous as they are helpful. The narrative should be the effects of abusing drugs
it is one of the few illnesses that people get mad at you for having.

Mental illness still has so much stigma attached to it, that it is easier to blame it on the drugs than to admit that human beings have flaws sometimes and people are not perfect without drugs.
Bill Kinsman Lack of a early childhood supportive parents or a family dynamic in which one is placed into the scape goat or whipping post role - deemed a never-to-do-well can haunt a person in this fashion. Low self esteem “I don’t deserve to do well.” I’d say that his childhood should be more closely scrutinized. Was he a middle child? Something as benign as being a boy who is quite different from their father can result in rejection from an insensitive parent.
Was he abused by a trusted member of the family? The guilt that travels with us from being abused in a sustained relationship with a predator also could end in a talented individual falling from grace - “this (sexual abuse) is your fault. You made me do this to you by being you.” Beautiful children, adorable children catch child predator’s eyes, end up on their map. It may be something he never shared with anyone. I truly believe we are the victims of our circumstances during the first decade of life. Drugs medicate initially (take me away Calgon) and when uninhibited by intoxication, only enhance what is already there. To fight the impulse to live up to the negative predetermined expectation is like swimming against the current. Our parents’ unconditional love, and protection from the dark evil in this world is so necessary to reach adulthood unscathed.

@@kw2142 There is no evidence for that. Correlation doesn't mean causation. There is a huge difference between those two. Syd was already walking on a thin line, before he was taking all these drugs. The fact is, drugs put your mental problems to the forefront. Those who have a genetic predisposition (psychosis, schizophrenia,bipolar) should not take mind altering drugs for it awakens these conditions and indeed make it worse. The other fact is that LSD doesn't work effectively the second day. It is even possible that you do not feel any effect if your are taking LSD the second day, so if he had taking that for several days, the amounts would have been ever increasing. Most people say you need to double the amount you took before to even have 'some' effects. The same goes for mushrooms. Do it too much and it will only give you 'bad trips'.
The drugs and life style made his mental illness worse for sure.

According to one of the band members, (I think it was Waters?) the group took a break for a long holiday weekend. When they parted, everyone was normal, and three days later when they came back, it was almost like Syd was a different person. Someone quiet and off and just not all there anymore. Can you imagine how heartbreaking that must have been? To watch your vibrant, charismatic, musical genius of a friend just vanish like that and never properly recover?
Yes i remember hearing him say that in one of the documentaries. That must've been a very strange situation
to be in. It's scary to think that drugs can alter your state of consciousness that fast.

It only took one good trip in 1965 to shatter that illusion. I am a way better person for it. It may have happened without it, but it sure wouldn't have come any sooner.

I heard there was a really bad batch of acid going around at that time and a lot of people got messed up but nobody remembers the others except their families, its only because Syd was so famous we all know about him.
Hi, I can't be certain of that it was just something that I had heard about and thought it might have been a cause for his illness, "bad acid" was a big problem in the 60s and 70s and I think I might have had some myself, I remember one time after the most incredibly strong trip where I had been taken to a van of some friends who were visiting my hometown and staying in it over night, they took me to the van because I couldn't walk properly and I just sat in the driver's seat holding on to the driving wheel, my hands gripped it so tight that I couldn't get them off, I remember there was a wall just in front of the van and it seemed if we were crashing into the wall constantly for hours, after about 4 hours my hands started to release slowly and also my teeth which had been clenched together as tightly as my hands on the wheel, it took about another hour for my teeth to release and the slow releasing of my teeth was the most incredible psychedelic experience I ever had. Later on, someone explained to me that some manufacturers used to put strychnine in which may have caused my experience. I am sorry if you think my comment was wrong but it was only a suggestion of the probable cause.
@@MrMick560 Yes, this "acid" was STP, an amphetamine based psychedelic that was 10 times stronger than LSD. They called it the "super trip pill" but it had liquid form as well. Unfortunately for Eric Clapton, this was his firs "acid trip" lol. I am 99% sure that what happened to syd was the result of this STP acid. I mean, the wide open eyes, paranoia, it just makes perfect sense. It put him into a psychotic break that lasted some time, and then I think he attempted to die it down with Mandrax and weed, slowly dissociating even more.
Many years later, by his own families account, he was doing much better. All this "he overdosed on acid" BS is so shallow. I am a professional when it comes to drugs, unlike the endless train of "he became schizo from LSD!" train coming from people who've never even ripped a joint.
@@MrMick560 Sounds like you might've had the STP too. Clenching jaw like that makes sense with an amphetamine psychedelic. This was peoples response to LSD becoming illegal: make new drugs, and it's still happening to this day. I thought I took acid one time and it turned out to be that nbome-25 stuff which is significantly lethal at a low dose. Where it would take like, 100k hits of LSD to kill you, just 10 hits of nbome could. Even though effects are similar, nbome-25 was very, very strange and not like usual LSD with breathing walls.
Nowdays I prefer to just do DMT. It's so damn easy to make lol. And you can get a heavy trip for 5-10 minutes and be back in a jiffy.

Here's my theory on Syd Barrett, being an avid Lsd user/musician myself. I have a lot of experience with the emotional effects the substance can have on one's mind and have looked into accounts on Syd's behavior/personality. I'm probably wrong, but maybe my insight can be helpful.
From what I gather, Syd may have been autistic. He displayed many interesting personality quirks and his face is rather unexpressive, which is very common for autists. His lyrics are also very fantastical and creative, a trait many autists aren't afraid of hiding. Now for clarity, he'd be on the higher end of the functioning spectrum, which means he could have been capable of masking his symptoms without even realizing it. Keep in mind that high-functioning autism wasn't even being diagnosed on a larger scale until the early 2000's, so no-one would have known Syd could have had this condition.
With that out of the way, the question remains as to how LSD affects ones mental state. Without adaquete grounding in reality, one loses their foundation. This means that their problems and emotions can throw their whole mind out of balance, perhaps even causing insanity in extreme cases. I read a story where Syd's roommates spiked his tea with it, causing him to trip without end, locking him in the closet during his bad trips. This is not how acid should be used and the actions of his roommates are absolutely heinous. It's a once every 3-6 months ordeal, but many users in the 60's weren't aware of this and thus Syd abused the substance or the people around him did it for him. Perhaps Syd became so incapable of functioning due to the acid's affects on his mind that he couldn't mask any longer or do much of anything. This can happen to autistics that have been through too much too quickly. They shut down and can't do much of anything for extended periods of time.
That's my theory. I never knew him, so my perspective is perhaps incorrect, but this may be a better alternative to the Schizophrenia theory.

@Philosophical Crypto Hacker Very true! Acid isn't to be mistreated, though I do wonder just how accurate these accounts are. He obviously did it a lot and had a mental collapse of some kind, but none of the details are clear

He went away, and a part of him never came back. It’s simple as that. The mind is uncomfortably weak, and for the eccentric and deep, it is easy to split. Some come back, some don’t. Jugband Blues is a severally sad song.

The mind deliberately goes on a wander, particularly when the body isn't doing so; not to the landscapes of the imagination anyway. When the mind becomes exhausted and frustrated from wandering with not enough companions, it sinks in to itself in order to feed off its own dying heat for comfort. Even though it looks messy and confused, like a collapsed cake, it is still just as edible and, largely, just as tasty as it ever was, but the mass of unfeeling people often seem to consign it to the past, or to an underclass, regardless of its class.

I feel like Syd many times, but no rock band, no psychedelic songs, no light show, no awesome girls. Nevertheless, I consider Syd my brother for a spiritual and psychic connection. Love him

One of the best and most creative lyricists to ever live. It's jaw dropping how good he was. Not even to mention his signature guitar tone and skill. He will be forever in the halls of the all time great musicians, albeit one many have never heard of or appreciate. He is 1 of 1. Highly recommend all the albums mentioned in this vid.

Syd's departure from Pink Floyd was destiny , had he been tolerated Pink Floyd the band may have faded away and never become what they became.

I’m a bit obsessed without knowing that much about him. I connect to his magic and childlike nature. I think fame changes people, and I’ve seen people change because of it and I don’t like it. I don’t like cameras and attention but I love music. Reality can make you depressed. Real people can be the most fake. The most emotional song for me is SOYCD it’s strange it helped me in a way it didn’t help Syd. I just cry when I hear it every time.

There's been loads of research for the documentaries and books, including interviews with people who lived with Syd, worked with him, knew him from college onwards and were aware of the people spiking him with overdoses and locking him in cupboards. Hi, I'm so sorry to hear this, I loved taking acid for around 3 years I loved the world and it made me feel wonderful but after around10-15 trips I kept getting bad ones, I kept trying to get back to the good times but it just got worse, eventually it got to the stage where I couldn't stop hallucinating, so with a lot of fear went to the doctors, he referred me to a specialist but he was on holiday for 3 weeks, I realised that I would have to cure myself, It seemed like I had fallen into a very deep hole so decided to take it one day at a time to get myself out, I saw each day as a massive challenge and after each day saw it as a one more step up the hole, it did take a long time but eventually I made it, its hard to put into words the beauty I saw with l.s.d. and it was dreadful to lose it but at least it made me see that love and kindness was the way to go. I think you should try for help, they know a lot more these days and although its hard to ask I think might help you, let me know if you need any more advice and I wish you the very best, Love Mick.
@@MrMick560 if I can add to this I've done psychedelics over 150 times and the times that they were good they were good, but I always had a nagging feeling that I was eating away at my brain every time I took more. it became a habit where I was doing two or three stacked tabs of acid every single week, showing up to school on the after effects/come down.. and then I let it ruin my college career. I got out by realizing reality is more important than how I view it, I was trying to coat the world that I didn't like in paint and color it away that I enjoyed.. but reality is not kind and I had to just accept that. please be very very careful doing any kind of psychedelics and I recommend not doing any until you're at least 25. a hypocritical coming for me because I'm not even 24 yet but, I've had friends completely lose their minds and I would hate to see somebody else goes through that..
Syd Barrett's story has forever haunted and fascinated me and has truly defined him as, in the famous words of Peter Jenner "The portrait of a nervous breakdown. " I've always loved Syd' songs with and without Pink Floyd (See Emily Play, Jugband Blues, Arnold Layne , Apples and Oranges, Effervescing Elephant) and I always wish I could go back in time and encourage Syd that everything was going to be okay and hopefully give him his severe medical help.

@@LieLikesMusic I've listened to Jugband Blues countless times, and in my opinion, I believe the song is Syd's cry for help and sarcastic perspective of the other Pink Floyd members ("It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here, And I'm most obliged to you for making clear that I'm not here ") which clearly explains that Syd himself believes that Rick, Roger, and Nick (in his mind) are purposefully neglecting his condition and not giving him the help he needs, when in actuality they were very concerned about his depressed state. This is further realized when Syd's therapist suggested he take a vacation (specifically to Formentera) with the hope of improving his condition. Unfortunately, this proved the exact opposite, as Syd became more withdrawn with a friend explaining that when a thunderstorm struck on the island (which reflected his "inner torment ") , Syd literally tried to climb the walls to escape the catastrophe. Jugband Blues simply explains how Syd doesn't understand certain things that happen in life and within the band itself, feeling neglect and depression unfortunately.

Wish you were here may have sounded like it was for and about Syd, but it was actually Shine on You Crazy Diamond that was about him. David Gilmour played the initial guitar riff and Roger Waters said "Stop, thats it. Thats Syd." and the rest is history.

I think Syd was depressed, he could not cope with the premature death of his father when he was 16. That explains his drugs abuse, and his early departure from the band he named. The loss of a much loved parent is not to be taken lightly. With his music and great talent he could suppress that depression for a couple of years, but not for ever. He unlocked an unlimited potential to creativity and he inspired others to do the same. He had a great expressive voice, very creative guitar play, wrote world class songs, Bob Dylan blues ...
It’s such a tragic story. It really makes you think what could’ve been, in some alternate universe. He was poised to be a rock legend, one of the all-time greats we’d never know.
So glad to see people talking about him again

I think Syd and Kurt Cobain suffered a similar affliction. They strived their entire adult life to be recognized for their artistry, making many decisions along the way to expedite this recognition. Only to be horrified with the results after they achieved their goals. It's like they hadn't thought it through and didn't know what to expect. Nothing is ever as good as you think it will be and I'm sure stardom is no different. It's not for every temperament, and the weaker ones often fall by the wayside. Usually through drugs. It's a case of be careful what you wish for.

I agree Syd was an amazing enigma in the same vein of Hendrix, Brian Jones Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, etc. I got to see PF 'experimental stage', at the Peace Bridge Exhibition Center in Buffalo, NY, in late 60's or 1970 where everyone sat on the floor and it was amazing! (I also got in for free because I had no money! Security guard let us in! LOL!) Thanks for the report, I really appreciated it...

Lie Likes Music after not having seen him for a while because he was a recluse, his weight gain made him unrecognizable. The quote was his response to how he'd managed to put on the weight. He still had a cheeky sense of humor. It's actually a slight misquote. He mentions his TV as well.
I discovered Syd Barrett for the first time when I was 16 or 17 and (from my experience most people get into him around the same age) was so shocked I had never heard of him before, so I went on a binge for about three to four months of nothing but listening to his albums and doing covers of them to try and learn more about his style by playing and recording it first-hand, I love it!

style of playing the guitar and making songs. Nothing like it.

I think he was high functioning on the Asperger spectrum. There was no such diagnosis in the 60s and little understanding of it. Psychedelic drugs were likely an effort to self medicate. but without a well-designed treatment protocol, it had negative effects.
@MrBrucelee117 Those interviews are from 1967, he was already drugged out then. He was actually the most socially apt guy you could find. Lots of friends, girlfriends, made connections with everyone, was joyful and talented. No where close to Asperger.

This is attested by all who knew him, he would talk to everyone, charm everybody, all the guys wanted to be his friend, all the girls drooled when they looked at him. I'm not exaggerating that's been corroborated many times. One factor which might explain's Syd illness, aside from the massive drug intake, 1) his extreme intelligence and lack of interest for a ''serious adult life'' and 2) his father's death when he was 16. According to his sister he never talked about it, and went on his way, and I know firsthand what the effect of suppressing feelings can do.
@MrBrucelee117 virtually all the interviews available are from 1967, he was already well weird by that point. Every account from before that year paint a completely different picture, he was a great communicator, very solid mentally, charming, creative etc.

@@LieLikesMusic Barrett went on to do his own thing with no regrets, me thinks. Like Gilmour said, he made sure Barrett was provided for regarding his due royalties, which took care of him. Of course they were all good mates. They weren't gonna ever leave him behind. He lives on today, through his music and Pink Floyd's.

Hey, me too! I got a white tele copy as a teenager, and did a "Syd number" on it with little round mirrors in the '90s when my band was playing regularly. Only one guy ever got it - at a gig in Sydney Australia - he was from the UK and asked me if I had Syd Barrett's tele. I told him it wad just a tribute. Love Syd's stuff. God bless him. Peace, man 😉

I think the wall really was a movie about syd and his life. It really connects a lot of things to syd. Especially when he cuts his hair and eyebrows and when he’s just sitting in the chair watching tv almost lifeless. David even said it gave him chills when he saw pink’s actor sitting there like when they found syd.

Syd. An example for all of us. We wish to be born like him but not have the same ending..his creations came with obligations to his inner self,with which he battled till he was here.

I find he led a way for some of us, who are in this world, existing but longing. Their consciousness reminds them of how free they can be, but then reality sheds light on how free they really are. And this constant gap haunts some of us more than the rest..making it hard to get a grasp of this thing called life.

Both lead members of the band, Syd Barrett and David Gilmour are equally profound. Syd was the real creative for some of us. He painted, did gardening and because he didn't bow down to the system, all of these make him a lovable rebel. Though, what appeals to most of us, is the mind, which struggled to find a balance against the odds. Fighting, winning and losing the battles of his own. The sensitivity is glaring, and hidden at the same time.

David on the contrary is the intellect, the voice of comfort, the calm after the storm. He was needed to hold a group of people who might have been non existent after their dear friend left. David shifted the balance, restoring order and make them want to create music again. David understood the boots he was stepping into. He reflected his intensity for Syd through the creation of the tune for "shine on you.."

Personally, I like Syd more just because of his charisma and innet talent, his rebelliousness and as a poster in my room..people like him will never leave our memories because of the 'what if..?'

David, Roger, Nick and Richard are/were the light bearers. They kept Syd in their hearts and carried on. Never giving in to the so called industry and focused on the creation of their art. They deserve nothing but respect.

Whenever I hear a snatch of Piper at the Gates of Dawn I get instantly transported back to the psychedelic summer of '67. I love Syd's songs, but to me the real unsung hero of Pink Floyd's unique, dreamy sound was Rick Wright...a keyboard genius if ever there was one!

I tend to agree with the Aspergers theory I don't think it was a downfall though he just did what he wanted to do. He did achieve musically what he wanted as far as I'm concerned those few albums stand up very well today after that he preferred to paint. He probably gained weight as he battled with diabetes and possibly medication for a mental health condition would also add to that. From what I can see there's nothing tragic about his life, he just live it the way he wanted.

So for all that we know he might have lived a happy life doing what he did. Thanks for highlighting this.
I disagree, In my view Syd absolutely achieved his potential, and then some. The remaining members of PF love to paint him as someone who'd completely lost the plot, maybe it helps ease their guilt. Just listen to the man's lyrics on 'Jugband Blues' and 'Dark Globe', these are the words of a person very much aware of his situation. Syd created a brand new style and vocabulary of artistic expression, he didn't need to do any more than that. That he turned his back and walked away from fame at the height of success is fucking powerful and should be celebrated. Sometimes it's enough to create just one great album or for a writer to write just one book. Some artists don't view these thing in terms like 'career' or feel the need to keep plugging away with diminishing returns once the muse has been exorcised. Sure Syd obviously had his demons, and the psychedelics clearly took their toll, but I also think he was savvy enough to realise his musical star had peaked, that he had grown apart from the other members of the band whom time proved were materialist bread-heads, that fame, when it arrived was not to his tastes, and that it was now his time to paint.
I see no sadness in Syd's story. In fact I admire and love him more for the path he took. He could have returned at any point to a lucrative big money deal. He chose not to. Through the 80's and 90's while watching PF's stadium spectacles I found it inspiring, profound, and magical that a few miles down the motorway, there was Syd, at his mum's house painting a picture.
When you listen to the lyrics of 'Welcome to the Machine' remember there is always the option to say 'Fuck You'. Thanks Syd.
Opiatus as a veneer to what happened what you say is respectful and I like it and understand it. I think he got the same lsd that Peter Greene and his roadie were given I. Germany. They Both ended up getting serious treatment for long period of time. Syd did not get treatment and his sister said he was extremely stubborn.... so yeah he didn’t like what the band was becoming and doing and for good reason! But he did have some issues in his brain he acknowledges but just chose to carry on on in whatever way. It’s fine. He certainly did OK but I don’t think he was happy....so...

I agree with you. Also just wanted to point out that Syd died with a few million pounds in his bank account. No need for him to make a new album or go on tour or anything because he needed cash. Free to live the life he wanted. And he did - on his terms.

I heard " octopus " in 1994 at 18 years old and bought the CD boxset and Biography for Christmas.
My friends hated his music and could never understand why I liked him. The lyrics are what make him great in my opinion and the things I read into them and the things I think he meant by them.
I did find out that Syd had put some known poetry into octopus, " little minute gong coughs and clears his throat" and a bit more too.
Anyway great vid.

Exactly, I'm in two minds if it would be a good movie or not ( his life).
The way Syd paints with words is simple on one hand but subtle and intricate on the other.
He contributed to the arts what he could and what he was able to and accomplished more than many. It may be disappointing to those who expected more but he followed the path he was destined to and doesn't owe anything to the vampiric masses for who enough is never enough.

There are a few inaccuracies here. The possibility of him having schizophrenia is not a "recent" theory. It was mentioned by Waters as long ago as the early 70s. At 5:20 you imply that they didn't pick him up simply because they didn't need him anymore. That's not true at all, they still desperately needed him, as songwriter, and even tried a Brian Wilson-type arrangement for a short while where they expected him to stay at home and write while they toured. Also, Gilmour didn't know Syd's parts "in and out". He talks about how he was often clueless and improvised a lot.
Gilmour really sucked at playing "Interstellar Overdrive". He never could get Syd's parts down.
I think after the argument, and it probably was an argument. Over 'Have You Got it Yet?' Roger was likely the one to say "Shall we not pick him up this time?" simply because he wasn't patient enough to try and pull him through his drug problems
A few more inaccuracies. Both of Syd's solo lps were excellent works of art - please don't judge by initial sales figures or that they don't sound just like PIper. A lot of punks and post punks have owned Barrett records - kinda like the first VU album. Also, both Barrett albums were produced by other members of Floyd and featured them playing on numerous tracks, so, I beg to differ but Syd's solo work does sound kinda Floydian at times. Also, he tried to record after Barrett and played a few gigs with other musicians. Most musicians would kill to have made three superb immensely influential records with minimal dross. That's quality control!
Brad Rolph I don't think that's true. Waters and Gilmour were the ones who made sure Syd was still receiving his checks from previous contribution. Nick was the one who was impatient and disliked the idea of having Syd be involved at all with the band.

Amongst everyone I've known who was into Syd, it was Terrapin or Love You or Long Gone or Gigolo Aunt or Baby Lemonade that was played over and over again. Much more than "Interstellar Overdrive." I don't know the person who made this video but I guess they're young a bit clueless about the context of Barrett's legacy and work.
