Piper is such a lovely dog! My old dog (RIP) had a phobia of being in water due to a puppyhood trauma, but with patience, positive training methods and trust-building even he came to be totally comfortable with bath time.
My dog rolled in cow poop and urgently needed a bath. I ended up rubbing cream cheese all over the shower walls. He was so busy licking, I don't even think he noticed that he was having a bath
Have been watching a lot of your videos and they have helped us so much in training our Chiweenie. She's a rescue; she was only 3 pounds when we got her and has topped out at eight pounds on her first birthday - today. We're retired and wanted a small, manageable pup. Have had many dogs and each one is different and all have been lovies. Thank you so much for the good work that you do. I'm sure most of us would be clueless without your encouraging and spot-on training videos. Even if we have had many dogs, they are as individual as people.
Dear Zak, thanks for this video. I have been at it now applying this video, and after 5 baths it finally clicked. My puppy loved the bath this time and was not constantly trying to jump out of the bath. Instead, he was enjoying the water and getting rubbed with shampoo.
My dog still isn't very fond of baths but she is slowly getting used to it. I am going to try to take it more slowly and see if it will help. Your videos are very helpful.
This worked so nicely! I added one thing at the end when after a preliminary dry off I had my puppy do a few more in and out using treats. I thought that going in a few times after the bath, with the water off, may show her that it still is a good place, even if it wasnt so fun for a while.
Amazing! ...with some patients, treats, and practice.... My german shepherd, phoebe, went from trying to snap at me when trying to get her to get in the shower.... to being more than willing to step right in the shower when I say "in"... even after giving her several baths, she is still willing to get in. I sooooo appreciate your videos! They're a tremendous help!!! they've literally transformed our lives from being stressed and anxious to enjoying the activities.
My dog that passed used to do this! My old female dog would jump out she just refused, a the male dog would just look at me so sad and completely vibrate in fear
Exactly. We didn't bath them for two months because we wanted to make it perfect so they were never scared. Now I get in the bath with them, in my bathing suit, with lots of treats and water proof toys, and my wife washes them while I play with them. They love it.

It's the same thing with me! My dachshund HATES bathes! As soon as I turn on the water for the bath she runs away and I try to get her. But when it's done and I am drying her and brushing her she just sits there like all happy and she sits still and stuff. Whyyyyy...
Great video! I especially like that you stress the importance of taking the time to let your dog adjust and staying positive. Always enjoy your videos!
I love the way you train puppies. We are getting our first puppy and I plan to use your techniques to train our pup. I wanted to find someone who showed a kind, loving way to train pets, and I found that person! Thank you!
I subscribed because I think these idea's are really great! Also, while you and your dog are going through the adventures, you get to bond with your dog.
I really made a positive impression with a client the other day with your " leave it" technique for a high energy jumper (pit mix) thanks so much Keep up the videos.
I've been watching your work for quite a while now and I'm really more than satisfied and looking forward to seeing your future videos.... In your first video which I saw, you said we need to train them before it happens and I kinda converted it for myself like "learn to train a dog before you get one".. And I really don't have one now but I'm gonna get one in near future and I've been learning a lot from your videos.. Thanks a lot😊
Once my Pom realized that the dryer was the key to getting getting dry, he loved it. Didn't mind getting wet if it was his doing (running around in the rain, snow, etc.). On the hot summer days, I've been getting my puppy wet while doing lawn work and when we're playing outside. Now he's muddy and needs a bath. 😂
Since this popped up in my recommended and might pop up in other peoples recommended too; this is what I did. I made baths a weekly routine every single Friday as a young puppy so that it was just as normal as wearing a leash, taking a walk, etc. Most of the baths were dummy baths of just wetting the dog, pretending to shampoo, rinse and dry and some had real puppy shampoo but it became so much routine that now even if it has been a while since last bath he is confident, calm, secure, patient, know the ropes/routine etc. If you have hard water the skin can dry out but dealing with dry skin on a puppy early on vs a bath hazard for a decade and a half is quite the good trade in my book.
my dog always loved baths. i have a hard time getting her in because she is 85 pounds and i have to lift her in and she can't really jump in because she's old. once we get her in she is in the happiest mood ever. the dog i'm talking about is the dog on my cover photo she's a golden retriever lab mix. She's almost 10 years old.if you have any tips to make it easier to get her can you let me know thanks also I would like to see the dogs tricks

I have a 5 month old Great Dane and he’s bigger than our 5 YEAR old chocolate lab. We have tried everything to get him in baths because he weighs 85 pounds and it’s so difficult! I didn’t finish watching but I’m going to try it in a bit and hope it works. Thanks for sharing!
Helpful. My dog climbs up in a freaked out reaction and her two front paws up on the bathtub edge, I have tell her in a calming voice and my arms gently around her, help her down and try keeping her from repeating that type of reaction. I'm patiently working on bath time.
I just recently adopted a puppy and really want to give my puppy the best options as far as food . The healthier options , do you have any recommendations as far as healthiest foods and treats how much to feed and how often ? Thank you for your time

Great video!! Yes, would love to see the dogs doing tricks. Also along the lines of this video, my dog doesn't mind getting baths it's just getting in the tub that she doesn't like. How would u teach a dog to get in the tub at home.? Thanks for the cool videos!!
I have 3 female pups. Right now they are almost a month. Witg my other older dogs i have had since birth and i have gottenn them used to it since birth. So i havent had trubble with it. Still love your vids
Zak, how did you get Piper to leave the dryer alone? I have taught Broly "leave it" and he knows it even with his food or his favorite ball, even if I leave the room after telling him to do so. But every time the vacuum hose gets turned on, or the hose outside, he flips a lid and tries to bite at the vacuum or eat the water coming out of the hose. He will leave it after a while, but it takes a very stern command, and I just know there has to be a better way.
Hi Zak! I have been wanting a puppy for a while now, and I just wanted to know: How often should you give a dog a bath? Thanks so much and great video!
I'd love to see more trick videos! Your videos are excellent and have helped us with our Mini Aussie so much. One question on baths, how often do you think is best to bathe a dog?
Cool, I was the 1000th like! We just adopted a beautiful 11 month old puppy 1 week ago so we have so much to learn! Thank you for all these great video resources!

I trained my puppy to not be scared of water by taking her into the shower with me when she was a little puppy. Since I have to do it all by myself and I am a senior citizen ( and not as agile as once) I smear Peanut butter on the cleaned ( with dish soap and rinsed) shower wall. Just enough to keep her busy.
I have a 3 month old Cavachon puppy. He needs daily coat brushing, tooth brushing and tear wiping. Do you think you could do a video about all of that. Mason likes to try to eat the coat brush and the tooth brush. He hates having his eyes wiped. If you can help with this, thanks.
