  • Drew brings Craig a disgusting old Chesterfield and challenges him to see if he can fully restore it. The frame is completely falling apart, and the whole sofa is full of dirt. Will it be possible to save it?

    y cousin has been an upholsterer for 40 years and ive personally seen him restore stuff like this. The tricks he showed me how to repair leather are staggering, The maddest was a childs wing back fabric chair from the 1800's. It was falling to bits and smelt foul. After a month he had obtained the original fabric, made new buttons and studs, restored the hard wood frame, restuffed with horsehair and made it look amazing.

    As a dealer, I rarely see a sofa worth redoing the upholstery. It could cost thousands to redo a sofa and if the sofa were worth that much the buyer would want to have it redone in their own taste.

    I appreciate the guy's work ethic... And how a challenge can be its own reward.

    Hideous, our firm would never dare give a chesterfield back to a customer like in that state

    This thing is such disrepair you might as well just build a new one from scratch if you plan on "restoring" it.

    There is much value overall in this nearly “impossible” refurbishment endeavor. To a novice with a keen eye like myself, so much was gleaned and learned. I am sure that I am not the only one with this point of view. I really enjoyed watching the master craftsman Who brought back bad piece of furniture

    Cost over 2000 pounds in labour and materials for an end product worth around 1000!! All done JUST for TV!

      Hate the colour and the material - chesterfields always need to be slightly worn mid brown or dark green leather in my opinion.

    the best thing about salvage hunters is when Drew turns up with what he's bought and his wife hasn't got a clue... it then cuts to her explaining what he's bought... priceless.

    I have an antique sofa I wanted reupholstered...just labor was $2500..that didn't include repairs, material or stuffing. All together it would've been almost $4000. Sadly reupholstery has priced itself out of popularity

    I don't know how much he pays the restorers and conservators but surely he can't be making money from them

  • @savedbygodsgrace.9058

    Once restored all that is left of the original is the frame and name. .now what?
    You can't expect top dollar when you can buy new by design in outlets.
    I still enjoy the show though.

    I think Craig does some good work but that Chesterfield he did was a terrible job, it looked awfull. I was thinking when it was reveald, there will be upholsters around the country cringing in their seats upon seeing that and worse still Drew having to say how good a job it was. I think Alex the french polisher does a lot of poor jobs also, he makes me cringe. He talks well, seems to know the procedure but his handiwork just looks "like DIY in a rush" most times. Even that restored Luis Vitton box looks terrible. Drew so insistes on buying items that are 100% unrestored and then gets his crew to screw them up. Something's wrong here. Although I like Drew, Tee, Rebecca and the show, all the best to them. Just be aware, there are a lot of experts watching and they'll spot sub-standard work in an instant.

    • @readmycomment3157
      @readmycomment3157 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with everything you said. Alex always does a shoddy job with cheap materials, defeats the point of buying original untouched pieces.

  • @Deb0rah1
    @Deb0rah1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Sorry but the workmanship lacks quality. Buttoning not even and untidy. Front edge full of unsightly gathers. Not good

    • @totaltwit
      @totaltwit 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeh I agree it looked a mess. I makes Craig look bad and Drew a clown. It may backfire on Drew, try and tell us a pile of poo is a treasure and it devalues his opinon and ultimately his selection of "desireable objects".

    A dealer would have burnt anything that bad or left it. Only an idiot would take for repair. Did not have the age for the work needed. The restoration show is boring, it is the thrill of the deal that keeps a dealer going.😎.
