    I have to put a notice on these... since using the pads for 3 skates the thigh rise stiffness (in terms of knee and above knee bend) has gotten considerably softer and they are no where near feeling like the stiffness I expected.
    I am going to reach out to Vaughn and ensure they have the pro stiff thigh in them like I ordered, and I am trying to find out if this thigh stiffness is as stiff as they come.

    I love the SLR pro carbon blocker. It's the favorite I've used in 20 years. When mine wore out I tried another brand but I'm going to go back to the SLR. It feels completely natural and perfectly balanced on my hand.

    Still rockin warrior G2s. Need an upgrade sooooon.

    Excellent look at the pads! I have gotten to see them up close in the Wings locker room and would have tried them if they fit me. They seem like a nice step forward for the SLR line, I'm excited to see what you have to say about them as you use them.

    An other great review, excellent idea to put some sliding material tissu on the front, very nice looking. And to put nylon instead of mesh on the back it’s a master move for the long run. Vaughn is always expensive, it’s like a Mercedes, not always the best but very close and always keep a good resale value. Looking forward to your next review after using it.

    Hey thanks for the review! I'm in 35" warrior G5 pads and thinking about ordering custom Vaughn SLR3. Unfortunately nobody here in New Zealand stocks Vaughn for me to try on, but based on your review I'm guessing that 33" in SLR3 would probably be right for me?

    I'm looking into getting SLR3 pro carbon pads. Would you say the sizing is going to be much different when compared to a Vaughn V6 35+2? would you recommend sizing down?

    • @HockeyReviews
      @HockeyReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never worn the V6 so I can't directly say. I can say I wore a pair of V8 Pro returns and SLR and SLR2 in 35, and these in 34 is close to what the old pads in 35 were.

  • @robanthes1308
    @robanthes1308 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    did you get the knee block angled or they come standard like that now? My Slr2 carbons are the best pads Ive used, absolutely love them. I removed the lower strap and no boot. nice and loose yet my leg is fully secure and moves well with my leg. I have a pair of ultra sonics too, the bauer professor strap is complete crap compared to vaughns. I wear 33+2 slr2... i wonder how small i would have to go in slr3 lol hopefully not intermediate haha

      I didn't order anything special from the knee block from what I remember. So it should be stock?
      From what I recall I was a 35 SLR2 so... Might have to go down a size for 3

    Set looks awesome! Can you share some thoughts on the SLR3 glove/blocker? I just ordered the pads, and need to decide between v9 and SLR 3 glove and blocker

    • @HockeyReviews
      @HockeyReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't really look at the blocker that much as I knew I wasn't getting it. I just looked at the palm as I am a huge fan of how Vaughn does the finger gussets in their blocker palms.
      For the catcher, they have a pro palm as stock on their catcher now and it felt pretty good. It makes the glove stiffer but it is a needed beef IMO on Vaughn stock gloves. It felt pretty good in the hands but unless I used it I can't really comment much on it. I was always a fan of the SLR gloves compared to the Velocity counterparts (non XP versions) though, but it is totally a personal preference thing.

      Hi Peter, i have a full set of V9 carbon, if it’s not too late for pads consider using nylon instead of mesh, in the leg channel and also strapping. (More durability for the long run).
      For the glove, i use a 2 piece and for me it’s better than 1 piece, the pro palm is way better than the VE8 glove. For the blocker, the inside board is still too shoft, not sure slr version is harder. As Matt said, is very personnal, Let us know your final choice

    • @adamleininger1387
      @adamleininger1387 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The V9 two-piece and the SLR glove both have a break angle very similar to a 600, so about 45*. I don't care for the two-piece design, but the standard V9 glove has a more natural thumb angle to me and is the one I went with. The SLR glove has a higher thumb angle and a steeper slope up into the pocket, which I'm sure doesn't hurt how it catches, but I personally found it really uncomfortable to close and especially to play the puck. Then there's the V9 XP, which is basically a copy of the 590.
      Personally, I catch better with the 45* break gloves, but for me a turco grip is more difficult in that kind of glove. Sometimes I wish I'd have stuck with a 60* glove for that reason. The one I haven't ever tried is the 580, and I'm dying to.

      @@bentru6905 just seeing this now, thanks for all the info. I may be too late on pads, ordered them pretty much stock, but will certainly ask. I have only been able to try on a V9 not-carbon glove and felt nice enough. Curious what worked better on the 2 piece cuff? I was hoping to try a 1 piece, but didn't care for the xp model or slr 2.

    Any tips on carrying pads without boot straps I just got some ultrasonic and was wondering how I was going to carry ‘em

    • @HockeyReviews
      @HockeyReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you bought them new, they should come with bootstraps in a bag. I don't use bootstraps but I put the connection loop of the bootstrap in and then either use skate lace or use a pad carry strap (Brian's makes one, as does Halo Hockey).
      If you don't have that piece, you could probably put a lace into the whole the connection end is supposed to go through (on the outside of the calf wing) and put a pad carry strap thing through that loop.

      So, I don't like giving people sizing suggestions since everyone is different and how I like my gear sized might not work for you. I always say try things on.
      But, in my personal experience I would be in a 35 True, 36 Warrior, 35 Brian's GNetik V & Optik 3, 36 Brian's GNetik IV & Optik 2, and 34 SLR 3

    How stiff is the sliding surface by the face of the pad (inside edge)?

    • @HockeyReviews

      It isn't hard like Bauer is on the calf area (which feels almost like plastic), but is a dense enough foam that doesn't have a tonne of give when you push into it. It is pretty firm.

      Basically this thing:
      th-cam.com/video/WgFJhyK3v38/w-d-xo.html
      It is a tight strap that goes right below the knee for "rotation." But in reality helps pull the pads up on your knee and keep the pad tight to your knee.
