These look awesome! I had no idea they existed! As for what I wish had happened for future Trendmaster Gamera toys, I have only four words: Gamera Micro Battle Playsets. You have a Gamera toy in his jet flying pose, you flip open his shell and inside is a tiny city for tiny Gamera to protect from a tiny Gyaos or Iris or whoever. One of the buildings or vehicles has dayglow dot of color in the window. The packaging has told you that's where the child that holds one of Gamera's glowing scales is. As friend to children everywhere, Gamera most protect that child from the enemy monster.
Love these guys so much! I’ve definitely warmed up to Gamera and his series over time and have come to appreciate the series a lot. These are awesome, give it take the wonky missiles. Would’ve loved to see a silver space Gyaos at some point! And of course Legion and Iris.
I first knew about these toys when I saw them at a Pic-N-Save (known as MacFrugals east of the Mississippi, and now known as Big Lots) waaaaay back in 1999. I have both versions of Gamera but never picked up the others. Now I wish I had.
Yeah, I really wish Barugon would stop getting shafted like this. Maybe if we get a Season 2 of Rebirth we'll see a redesigned Barugon that relies more on elemental/energy based attacks, whereas Rebirth Jiger had all of his removed, to help differentiate the two more.
Man, this makes me wish even more that Trendmasters did an Ultraman line... if only Towards The Future found success, perhaps that proposed second season would have brought toys of the Ultra Brothers!
Do you mean the toyline or the show? Because "Towards the Future" was a massive success for Tsuburaya. In fact, it was their first hit since the 70s (I think the 1984 "Ultraman Zoffy" movie did pretty well too)! It didn't take off right away, but it became a huge success for them over the span of about two years. The second season of Great/Towards the Future got killed by the piss-poor quality of Ultraman Powered/The Ultimate Hero. Tsuburaya had been wanting to do an American co-production since the late 70s and based on Great's success, it was finally their big chance and they took it rather than continuing with Great. It could have paid off for them if they had done business with a company that knew what the hell it was doing.
@@ConstantineFurman Wow! I never knew Great got that much traction! I meant the TV show, but hey, maybe if Powered was actually good a Trendmasters toy line could have happened!
@@logandothewarlock6043 It took a while, a year or two for Fox to buy the rights to Great and then the ratings were apparently very high here in the States when it aired in 1992. After that, other countries around the world wanted in and they started buying up the rights for their territories. And it was popular in Japan when it finally came out over there as well. Tsuburaya just backed the wrong horse; should've stayed with the Aussies instead of hopping to America.
Well, that was fun and informative. I collected a LOT of Trendmaster's toys back then. But I seriously don't ever remember seeing these. Admittedly I wasn't yet familiar with Gamera back then either, but still. Fun to learn about these. I'm sure I'd have liked them if I'd known about them.

Funny that this toyline has the same roster of kaiju as the new Gamera: Rebirth anime. And I would like MIB to review at least some of the Gamera video games in the near future, hint hint.
I had that exact Gamera toy, the only piece of Gamera merchandise I would have as a kid. The same with that Godzilla toy, I damaged both their sound features by playing with the toys in the bathtub as a kid. The amount of fights I had those 2 get into was too many to count. I remember too that I pretty much got all my Godzilla toys at a nearby KBtoys that was next to a local Walmart. I also ended up getting a much bigger Godzilla figure there, this one was motion activated though, it had holes in the chest and when you moved in front of it, it would roar. Also ruined the sound for it by, you guessed it, playing with it in the bathtub. 😅
Ohmygod I love Gamera. And I've never even heard of these toys before. I wish I had. I would have loved to have these growing up in the 90s. I bet trying to get them now is going to cost a fortune
Trendmasters employees really do a lot of amazing things when it comes to monster designs for the toys before shipping them to markets , I appreciate the Gamera figures a lot because of their unique appearance & shown potential , if these are what the heisei incarnations of Gamera foes would have been including barugon , as including Kaiju such as Nezura , garasharp & geboras , then Gamera 4 , in a alternate reality , would have been a real film if bankruptcy didn’t came to daiei & gain story plot similar to Godzilla final wars & could have included all the Kaiju instead of the gyaos swarm & a original Kaiju for that film as a final foe for Gamera as noted by a small glance of a cyborg next to viras
I first saw these toys showcased in an issue of G-Fan magazine. I looked for them at my local K-Mart, and Walmart, but never found them. They just weren't available in Dogbutt Arizona. You know, four of Gamera's enemies appear in an episode of Franklin.
oh the comedy with the jiger missile also my buddy had a gyaos figure he gave me and his mind was blown when i told him it was based off the sound one. the button was driving him bananas!
I actually saw some of these toys at a Big Lots in Fort Collins back in either 98 or 99, For some reason I guess by then I stopped playing with toys I never bought any of them, and sometimes I still wish I did.
I regret selling my Trendmaster Gamera. Loved how it looked and functioned. Someday I'll find Gyaos and Gamera together for under $100... someday. Honestly never liked the Godzilla line, and never felt inclined to buy any. I like turtles.
I was scrolling through some kaiju Profiles on wikizilla. And i found some interesting new information on kaiju’s like Gamera, Monster X, and others. The biggest piece of info for me was about my favorite Kaiju, Kiryu (Mechagodzilla 3). Turns out that after Godzilla Final Wars, an Idea was pitched for Kiryu to have his whole solo film, the director of Godzilla against Mechagodzilla and Tokyo SoS submitted a fully written script for it. I honestly wish I could get my hands on that.
As far as the logo is concerned, American fans almost en masse erroneously refer to the 1995 movie as "Gamera: Guardian of the Universe." However, the movie's actual English title is "Gamera, the Guardian of the Universe." It says as such at the bottom of the Japanese title card [in English] as well as the onscreen title card for the U.S. version. I was doing this myself until I discovered the error back in March of '22 just in time to include its notoriety in a book. Holy nuts! While I can't speak to the other monsters, Guiron makes the EXACT same late-Heisei Godzilla sound as your Gamera figure there does! What. The. Hell, Trendmasters?? In the late 90s, despite the fact Daiei had been using "Guiron" in English since 1969, fans took to calling Guiron "Guillon" because they discovered he's named for a guillotine (I think this was August Ragone's doing). Daiei (and later Kadokawa) were having none of it though and held steadfast to their original "Guiron" name.
I had Gamera! I can’t remember if I found him at KB Toys or at this weird import shop at one of my local flea markets, but I definitely had that Gamera. I didn’t have him long though, the dog chewed him up.
Maybe just maybe Netflix will give us the Gamera and Godzilla fight, considering people are loving the Gamera anime and I heard Singular Point will get a season 2 eventually
7:57 Apparently, it is supposed to be Guillon since his name is based on the word guillotine. We just say Guiron because Japan pronounces their Ls like Rs
I didn't even know trendmasters had a Gamera line but I think I saw them once but I didn't know Gamera until 2010 so..... yeah would love to have had them during my childhood with all my Godzilla figures
So- Orga 👀 When we gettin that show review hmm I joke of course honestly I’m just happy to see some love for are favorite giant turtle! The show would make a pretty good review tho! it’s really great and definitely made a Gamera fan out of me! :D
The sad thing is that you can tell they realized this line wasn't going to be successful by the lack of other accessories and feelies in the toyline. I'd imagine that's why they just used a sped up Godzilla roar. Like why bother contacting Gamera's production company for recordings of their sounds when you know the line was going to be so niche? Just take some other monster's sound, good enough. Also, now I wish they had the license for Tom and Jerry toys if ONLY to have a Tom with a sound function that's his famous "AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!" scream.
I actually own a few of these. I have the sound versions of Zigra and Jiger and the non sound versions of Gamera and Viras. I've had them since the early 2000s. The Zigra and Jiger figures have the same roar as each other only at different pitches. I think Trendmasters may have cut a few corners with this line.
Trendmasters should have put more effort for the Gamera toy line, specially making a toy commercial for it. If they did the toy line could have possibly been successful enough for Trendmasters to make new toys for the toy line, specially making new kaiju that are exclusive to the Gamera toy line. Heck maybe it could have possibly led to a Gamera animated series.
Although, now that I'm watching this video, having the Gyaos toy be able to turn his head side to side kind of breaks his canon. Remember, to create that sonic beam of his, Gyaos has two throats; one produces the sound, and the other amplifies it. But because he has two throats, Gyaos CAN'T turn his head from side to side, instead having to turn his entire body to face his attacker.
Cool video! Thank you! I didn't have any of these, but I have a friend who collected these (and all the Trendmasters Godzilla figures). As nifty as these were, you tell the writing was on the wall. My favourite of the bunch was Guiron. Pretty sure they called it "Guilon" because his name was based on the fact that he has a Guillotine for a face.
I honestly didn't even know this line EXISTED. ...well, ok, I'm kinda lying, I knew there was a Gamers toyline by Trendmasters but I honestly thought it was cancelled and it was one of those tragic examples of a cool cancelled toyline that people still lament years later... but apparently NOT?? Yeah, must be because I've never seen commercials of it on TH-cam unlike the Godzilla toylines and that's like basically the only way I was aware of old toylines existing.
I've never understood why toy companies insisted on putting sculpt breaking projectiles, action features and sound shit on their toys, I hated that shit as a kid and still do.
Wait a minute I just realized something. The Gamera Rebirth features Showa era monsters but Elmo Barugon. This trendmaster toy line features the Showa era monsters but again no Barugon. What is it they have against Barugon? He’s one of my favorites in the era.

7:55 the way the tusks are position makes it look like Guiron doesn't have a mouth.
7:57 Apparently, it is supposed to be Guillon since his name is based on the word guillotine. We just say Guiron because Japan pronounces their Ls like Rs
I bought the voiceless Gamera figure a few years ago, its the only Gamera figure in my collection so far
This makes me want to watch the gamera movies
I didn't even know trendmasters had a Gamera line but I think I saw them once but I didn't know Gamera until 2010 so..... yeah would love to have had them during my childhood with all my Godzilla figures
So- Orga 👀
When we gettin that show review hmm
I joke of course honestly I’m just happy to see some love for are favorite giant turtle! The show would make a pretty good review tho! it’s really great and definitely made a Gamera fan out of me! :D
I just realized that a year ago I saw gyaos at a thrift store and didn't pick him up because I didn't know much about gamera at the time
It haunts me
Gamera would be friends with Godzilla
I think the "hole in the mouth" could also be a homage to the showa era version of Gamera. From when he spat/ate flames.😋
It was SO DAMN HARD to find these toys. I owned Zigra and Viras, but I really wanted Gamera and Gyaos. Yet I could NEVER find them.
I think there’s at least one vhs tape out there that calls him guillon (with 2 Ls). I’m not really knowledgeable on gamera history full disclosure
@@MonsterIslandBuddies Yeah, the Neptune Media releases of the late 90s.
Never saw these figures as a kid. Would have liked to have gotten Gamera and the shark.
Love these figures.
Poor Barugon, he never got his own Trendmasters action figure.
Gamera: im okay
Trendmasters:*lethimchokeamissile*
I think it would be pretty cool if unknown had skins that try to imitate other killers like trapper.
My fav is Gyaos and Zigra by their design even Gamera, even not perfect
I've never understood why toy companies insisted on putting sculpt breaking projectiles, action features and sound shit on their toys, I hated that shit as a kid and still do.
Wait a minute I just realized something. The Gamera Rebirth features Showa era monsters but Elmo Barugon. This trendmaster toy line features the Showa era monsters but again no Barugon. What is it they have against Barugon? He’s one of my favorites in the era.
It's interesting that you can also see the not voice box speaker hole could be on some of them
I've have always loved your videos and it always keeps getting better and i can't wait intill you release godzilla vs jet jaguar
ironic how all of these specific monsters in this toyline are the same ones who made it into Gamera Rebirth
Hm what a coincidence that the figures in this line are the same monsters that ended up in Rebirth
So many years ago i purchase The jiger and was in The original blíster and all and i didnt even know that was of trendmaster until now
Minor error on MIBs part. There legal info IS there, just not on the back. All of copyright and company info is on the BOTTOM of the blister bubble (the same insert as the name) and the same for the boxed figures.
Confirmed! Thanks for the heads up, I’ll put a correction in the description
