12:12 Fun Fact: This move was actually planned originally to be featured in Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 from 1993, but Super Mechagodzilla's ability to just tell his opponents to go home was deemed too overpowering to be used in any movie.
Wow, I remember seeing this figure in a store as a child, maybe 5 yo, and he was set up in a glass display case in a diorama of Zilla vs tanks and jets and such and I was just glued to the glass. I never wanted a toy more in my childhood than in that moment. It was beautiful. Thanks for bringing that memory back to me.
I remember seeing this thing out in the wild only once at Kay-Bee Toys. It's been almost 25 years and I'm still beating myself up for not trying hard enough to convince my parents to buy it for me.
I definitely had some of those 98 Trendmasters Toys, not the Ultimate Godzilla, but quite a few and still own to this day. I lost ALL the missiles unfortunately. Seeing MIB play with those toys, puts a smile on my face!
Yo MIB, even though the film that this toy came from is questionable at best, have to admit, this is a *BEAST* of a toy that trendmasters made. They really outdid themselves with this one. It looks epic and is very imposing on the shelf, this is one of the holy grails of trendmasters that is awesome to have for anyone's shelf (if you find space though lol!!). Best of luck to those in finding this one, especially with the box intact. Great video!!!
Is trendmasters obsessed with missiles or what!?!?!?!?!? P.S i was fastforwarding through the buyee ad, but the button stopped or something, so it sounded like MIB said: "This Video is Sponsored by- Japan!" Can you imagine if MIB got sponsored by the ENTIRE COUNTRY OF JAPAN?!?!??!
My first ever Godzilla figure was when I was little, my grandparents gifted me a “Battle Action 8 Godzilla 1998” Big Figure. At the time I was into Dinosaurs and I think they thought that’s what it was. So without Godzilla 1998 I don’t think I would have gotten into the Godzilla fandom as early as a age as I did.
say what you want about the movie itself, but the 1998 godzilla movie had some of the best marketing and had some really great toys come out with it. i have never been lucky enough to own any of these ‘98 figures but man are they amazing.
I love Tom Servo and Crow from Mst3k you got on that shelf. I never had the Godzilla toys from the movie when I was a kid, too expensive. If NECA got their hands on this model I'd buy.
It wouldn’t be trend master if they didn’t have a missile like every single Godzilla set of the humans had missiles and Godzilla the series had missiles, godzilla King of the monster, Godzilla wars, godzilla doom island other toy lines had so many missiles, but different freaking molds which is crazy
I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason the Hornet doesnt fit these figures, is because it might be the sane Hornet released for the Indepedence Day toyline in '96.
I don't have this figure but I would like to own it one day though the only thing I have close to it is the giant Toy Biz figure but it's missing the tail and it's nothing compared to this figure I'd like to own it to feed it some of the action figures I own outside of this line!
Of the figures you listed off here, I have: Shatter-Blast Godzilla, though his missile is long-gone and the tip of his tail broke off Tail Thrasher Baby X Hammer Tail Monster Claw All-Terrain Attack with Godzilla Force Nick Twin-Firing Combat Cannon with Godzilla Force Phillipe Shatter-Tail Godzilla, though his arm fell off Living Godzilla, who still works
Man, this is an awesome figure. Love the heft of it. The Lanard Kong looks pretty cool next to it too, all you're missing is the Jakks Pacific 24" Tall Godzilla to make all three of 'em fight it out! lol. Fun video, really liked your Kong/Lanard video as well. Subbed!
Got this guy new back when he came out. It's a very specific memory. I was very young, probably 6 or 7. Family was at one of my brothers hockey tournaments. And while I was at the hotel my mom came back from a toy store with him. We actually had to return him for a replacement cuz you had to assemble it, and the tail wouldn't stay on. I got a lot of the toys from this movie.
I used to have the Godzilla toy that came with a small tank. That once you press the tank Godzilla will roar. And I also had the helicopter that came with the net. Wished I kept them.
Had a bunch of toys from this film. I was obsessed with it for some reaon. Don't think i had thr ultimate Godzilla though. Vaguely remember it having like a handle ? to carry it around. Would roar though and I think it lit up maybe? Just liked having Godzilla eat the military guys, especially the Jean Reno character.
Awesome video! I was just thinking the other day about how many Trendmasters Godzilla toys have missiles as I did not think that there was that many since I only focus on KOTM, GW, DI! Now with this video, wow so many missiles! Again another funny video bud!
i remember i had the godzilla that had the tail swipe, arm swipe, stomp, and roar. eventually the buttons stopped working. feel like i had another one with the button on his chest too, but i cant remember exactly.
Ah yes! Back in the days when toys had strong launching springs (or even had launching accessories PERIOD). Those commercials bring back some good memories especially the sci-fi channel one! Not sure if you did a video on '98 Godzilla promotional art yet, but if you revisit this iteration of the Big G sometime in the future you should talk about the beautiful lithograph that was available via mail order only. It was $60.00 at the time.
was there an actual reason for that or is it just constant corner cutting. I still see missiles in toys but not like licensed stuff. Like even the kids versions of toys do less shit now.
@@banquetoftheleviathan1404 Probably just companies being cheap. Seems like with action figures of today launching accessories have been replaced by extra hands, heads, and faces. Back then we didn't need all of that extra stuff! (Tell me more about these unlicensed products that have launching features. Not even third party Transformers have launchers. Not a single one of them)
Aw man, I remember seeing the ad on Sci-Fi during their Godzilla marathon. Unfortunately, I wound up seeing the movie and when my parents asked if I wanted it, I very quickly declined. Again, I blame Sci-Fi for marathoning the older Godzilla films every year! I miss watching those... Not to say I didn't stop playing with my Tri-Star Zilla toys, they still went well with my OG Trendmasters Godzilla figures
So back in the late 90s, I owned the motorized Godzilla that turns at the hips when you press the button on his chest. I loved it ... BUT, I was also in the presence of that Ultimate Godzilla. I had a cousin who was kind of jealous of stuff I owned and I of his stuff. We were both the same age and both of us loved Godzilla. When I got this toy, he asked his dad to buy one, and the dude got him this gigantic Godzilla. I was so envious, but truth be told, it wasn't easy to play either compared to mine lol.
Not too many of my Trendmasters figures held up very well. Over the years the plastic has become brittle, so they crack, and break apart. Of all my Godzilla collection, the Trendmasters figure are the most fragile. My Bandai figures hold up just fine, and still look great.
2:27 man that brings me back I got the "battle action 8" for christmas when I was a kid and loved the heck out of it...they as I grew older realized how stupid the handle on the back was and that you essentially could only have the toy completely static so not that good for battle or for action, it was like having and RC toy.... that couldn't move, still I have very fond childhood memories of the toy, I just outgrew it.
This movie and the cartoon got my nephew into Godzilla, so several trips to eBay got me some things for him: an Equity Toys plushie (which we used with an RC car he had to reenact the cab chase after he first saw the movie), the electronic coin bank from Trendmasters, that gumball bank that’s seen in this video (the one with Godzilla peering around a building), and the Fang Bite Godzilla. Me, I got a Nuclear Strike Godzilla (without any of the accessories) and a Razor Fang Godzilla. Zilla needs a bit more respect, in my opinion. As a side note, one of Trendmasters’ last lines was one for my favorite bad movie of all time, Battlefield Earth. We got original items for it such as figures of Terl and Ker, the Psychlo Battlecraft, and a 12-inch talking Terl, but aside from some big items like the Forest Warrior figure, dioramas and the big ass Learning Chair accessory, along with the explosive collar, history book, spear, club, and crossbow accessories, nearly everything (aside from the face sculpts) were reused from the Godzilla line: the M16s were reused from the human figures, Prisoner Jonnie’s body was reused from the Animal figure, Learning Chair Jonnie’s body is a combination of the Nick and O’Neal figure, and Carlo’s body was reused from the Phillipe figure. Further, the other two vehicles in the line (The M1 Thunder Battletank and the FA/18 Strike Jet) are reissues of vehicles from the Godzilla line as well; the only differences are different decals for the jet and a modification to the tank: instead of a snare missile with retracting cord, the missile on the side of the gunner seat now has a bola in it. The cord that attached to it previously now has a grappling hook.
From the Trendmasters line, I had Shatter Blast, Fang Bite, Hammer Foot, and the Razor Fang (3:28). From Toy Biz, I had the remote control Tail Swinging Baby Godzilla and the Power Blast Godzilla (I think). That one had a small tank attached to his foot where if you press the turret, Godzilla's mouth would open and roar. Trendmasters must have had a mold for their jets since the F/A-18 Hornet Jet for the Godzilla has some similarities to the one for Independence Day.
It turns out that Kong 2017 is actually 104 feet in height whereas Godzilla 1998 is 180 feet in height so it turns out that Godzilla 1998. The figure should be a little bit bigger.
I don’t have that Ultimate Godzilla (I wish.) but I do have Living Godzilla who’s currently on the roof of my room in an endless battle with one of my Monsterverse Godzilla figures from KOTM. And I also have 3 of the Baby Zillas as well.
Monster island buddies: don’t you want your own monster island buddies plushy to hug and cuddle? Me: not really no. Now, maybe if you had a soft vinyl figure of yourself I could display with the rest of my soft vinyl Godzilla figures then we’ll talk.
That’s in the works next, but it only happens if enough plushies sell. Sign up for the mailing list even if you don’t plan to nab a plushie to keep informed
I actually got an ultimate Godzilla about 3 years ago or so. Also have one of the babies the red and blue one that bites & a stuffed Godzilla with a hard plastic head. Love them all since Godzilla the animated series was the Godzilla I watched growing up.
Awesome video! I still have some of the human figures, the supreme Godzilla and recently got one of the smaller zillas. I sometimes still use them in stop motion projects haha
I had the super hornet, the attack chopper, the expanding shield guy, and the quad bike with two missile launchers on it. Seriously Trendmasters loved missiles more than Kenner did for the Jurassic Park toy lines that they did. I also had a couple of the Godzillas from that line too like the claw strike one, living Godzilla and one of the baby ones that came with an egg. I forgot which one of the babies I had. But oh well
My ultimate's right leg wouldn't stay on. It was returned twice at toysrus with the same issue. So i got the one where he has the handle on his back and two babie zillas with the refund.
Here in Mexico you can find bootleg versions of this figure to this very day, they come in different color schemes but have less features compared to the original, they can't swallow anything for example and most don't have a voice box, but some of them do. I own two of them personally, one with the original color scheme but no voice box and a brown one that has a voice box placed on the side of it's neck. They used to be fairly cheap considering their size.
12:12 Fun Fact: This move was actually planned originally to be featured in Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 from 1993, but Super Mechagodzilla's ability to just tell his opponents to go home was deemed too overpowering to be used in any movie.
Then Rodan would not have revived Godzilla as he had gone back to his island and Godzilla would be back in the sea
Lol
That checks out, it would have made the movie a lot shorter if they kept it
Hahah
