F1 Championship Edition (PS3) Beating all gold times in time trial with the Williams FW18 '96

- I needed a challenge, so I took the old '96 Williams around every track of the 2006 season, in the 2006 order and beat the gold times in time trial mode. It must be said that this car is very difficult to drive without major practice, as it has no driving aids whatsoever. No tcs, no stability control and no abs. On some tracks I thought it would be impossible to beat the times but after trying for several hours and hundreds of restarts I managed it though. It was tough and exhausting but at the same time very, very fun. I can only recommend everyone with this game and this car to try to beat at least some of the gold times. Also, I will later add numbers from 1 to 10, indicating how hard it was to beat the particular gold time, 1 being very easy and 10 being very difficult. Have fun watching. :)

This game was developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Studion Liverpool better known as Psygnosis!
The game has cool lighting effects which build a beautiful sunset and the engine sounds are delicious. Also the motion blur gives a very good sense of speed. Probably the sunset is only available in Time Trial because there are no other cars on track and so the CPU/GPU has more processing power available.
I tried the demo but pressing the analogue buttons X and □ to accelerate and break is a pain. You have to press them so hard you'll get seizures... Luckily I've read one can switch to the L2 and R2 buttons for this.
Just ordered this game in 2019 :D

Buy a wheel for this game, you won't regret it.

Like the sound of the car. I drove this car in toca race driver 3. Grat car for changing setup and gaining time to catch newer fw27 cars in tier 32. Good driving.

Absolutely mate. And that SOUND! In other good news, I'll upload (probably in higher quality) hot laps of the Ferrari and Renault (the two quickest cars of the 2006 season) on EVERY track of the 2006 season! :) That'll be in 2025 or 2026 though... :p

If you have the right racing line, you can go flat through the first corner at Silverstone.
I have the game and I got this car after getting gold in everything (with Ferrari lol). I thought I was quite good until I saw this. This is amazing. And let me ask you:

Bro i have a question if you don't mind. Since the FW18 is an unlockable car and you have to get silvers in time trial to get it, is it possible to get the silvers on a car of the choice that you have as your created driver ? Or you have to select a driver from the 22 already ? Cause i would love to try and get bronzes,silvers and gold but only with my created driver.

That's true but I found out, that with this car, it is actually better to lift/brake a little.
Is it true if you keep it in 4th gear you can maintain speed in this game without losing time shifting. I have this game but don't play on it but got this tip from someone who does.

My favourite PS2 racing sim is Tourist Trophy from the creators of Gran Turismo. Highly recommended. To get the a very good picture on modern TVs (non CRTs) with your PS2 chain the OSSC (Line2x mode) + Extron DSC 301 HD video processors and enable progressive scan mode. Use the GSM Selector to force 576p if you're playing the PAL version. Oh and you most likely will need a component cable. Tourist Trophy even supports a 16:9 mode. Have a look at it here (surely captured without video processors - video quality is not that good):

Hm, also ich denke eine hohe 1:10ner. Gerade auf dieser Strecke ist der Unterschied zwischen dem FW 18 und den modernen nicht so groß, auf den sehr schnellen Strecken eher größer.

This car is coming bavk on F1 2013 Classic, which I have pre-purchased on Steam.
One of my favourite racing games on PS3 is the much underrated and overlooked Test Drive Ferrari Racing Lengends. Mostly it got bad critics for the very unbalanced difficulty level but at its core it's a great racing simulation game with cool engine sounds. Check out this video:
