Hilda, Pat Coombs, Peggy Mont, Rita Webb, Hattie Jaques, Thora Hurd. All learned their craft in provincial theatres making the transition to TV in the 60s. These wonderful ladies kept us entertained during the 60s and 70s a few made it to the early 80s. Sadly they have almost been forgotten. Great to see these wonderful clips on YT keeping their flame burning.

I agree with the comments below. Her style came straight from reality. The North had thousands of these Mrs Malaprops. The closer to reality, the funnier it seems,, as everyone could recognize the performance in reality, and the reality in performance.

A friend of ours auditioned(successfully) to be her last Cynthia(Matthew Kelly played her once in The Good Old Days, but that doesn't really count),he was very tall and well built. She had a read through of her stage act,and watched him carefully. He got the job on the spot, why? because he didn't laugh once (He actually didn't find her funny)He appeared with her over a long period and never corpsed once.
I believe her first Cynthia was her husband.
