you love me when you’re happy
you love me when you’re not
    and somehow you stay loving
even when the smiles are gone
and no one compares to you
    and somehow I always knew
you made my worst days feel like sundays and cut fruit
    and mondays and cut fruit
    on tuesdays forgot to
    say thank you for Sundays
    and cut fruit

Even as someone who isn’t Asian this hits home. Realizing as you get older that a lot of our parents love language is food. My mom always says that she wouldn’t enjoy cooking as much if she didn’t get to see me and my family’s reactions to the food. It makes me happy to see Asian people in the comments feeling such a connection that I won’t fully understand, I’m happy that you have a song that encapsulates your childhoods 💗

Not all families can afford having fruits at the table. But this is not just about that. This is about the sacrifices our mom makes. That even though she can't afford to buy fruits, she makes sure there is food. She makes sure to light up mosquito coils every night so we won't get bit. She sometimes not eat because seeing you enjoy the food is enough for her. Maybe yes, you will appreciate this more if you someday become a mom. But you can appreciate it now.

@@owassee7285 i dont think that theyre saying that other races of mothers cannot cut fruit. But rather that in asian culture, saying 'i love you' isnt very customary, it is done more so in the love language of 'service'. to do one a service to show your love for them. In this case, a mom cutting their children fruit. Especially since in more traditional asian cultures, fruits weren't something you would eat regularly, instead on occasion for something special. So it adds even more meaning and cultural depth to what eaJ has done here.

My dad didn’t cut fruit but it took me over 10 years to realize he cooked many Chinese meals and dishes and went through hours of making handmade dumplings and putting food on my rice bowl was his was of saying that he cared, he’s not very expressive. The way you can hear the music change just like the song on the radio, and the ambience, the way the mother cut the fruits, it's so aesthetically so beautiful. This is the whole nuance and ambience when mothers all alone in the kitchen, washing dishes, cooking and all. Now, I'm missing my mother even more. She passed away two months ago, and I always hope she's doing okay right up above the clouds, even I know that I am not a good daughter myself. We barely tell each other I love you. My mother knew that I didn't go to class in college, but never ask why and stay silent, and yes... still cut fruit for me. I love you mother. And thank you Jae for this beautiful song. Thank you eaJ for all of this. Your voice alone tell a story. I appreciate you. Love 💛

Thinking that maybe because moms have also learnt from their childhood that that's one of the clearest way their moms show their love. And it's been going on. And on. And on. Until the next generation. Without the need to tell anybody that it's a love language.
Sometimes, we forgot about that and took it for granted. Thanks to this song that focuses on this love language. Eaj really does pay attention to meaningful things in life. Thank you

A mother’s way of loving differentiates by person to person, but it’s amazing to see how universal the gesture of a mother cutting fruit is, and how something as simple as that can mean so much, especially as you grow older and realize how much you miss having a snack laid on your desk without even noticing it’s there. How that simple gesture reassures that you will always have someone thinking and caring for you. A mother’s way of communicating love

This hits deep. This is one of my most favorite things my mama does for me.
My mum and I used to sit around the dining table and she would cut fruit for me. When I was stressed with work, she would feel helpless and say “I wish I could be there to help you with work but I would only be able to cut fruit for you my dear.” I don’t think she knows how much it would help if she is here to do that for me:,) I haven’t seen my mum in 2 years cause of COVID. Every time I cut fruit, I’d think that it would be nice to eat fruit with her.

Towards the end, I thought the shadow was the boy sitting on the stairs instead of his room, but it was the plant instead. So it's just traces of him hanging around the house, around the room, and mom does it out of habit. Don't know if the boy is still there or not, because this kinda reminded me of my mother forgetting that we went to college, and accidentally cooking extra, especially right after we left, because she forgot that we weren't around anymore. Even now, if we're just visiting, and then we leave after a weekend/week, we always get a call that says 'oh I thought you were just going to walk out' or 'oh i thought you were sleeping, before i remembered'. Idk what I'm saying, it's just a lot of feels, and that's a lot from someone who's never felt homesick for their parents. Jae, why.

My mom never had time for cutting fruit. But I realise now that her way of cutting fruit for us was getting up and going to work in the morning and coming home to us no matter how much me and my siblings hated each other. Her world was always us back then, and it's still the same now.

These little simple things that our parents, or the ones who made the person you are today, are doing for us are a way for them to express their love. It’s hard sometimes to express how we love them and how we appreciate the things that they are doing for us. So before it’s too late, lets make them feel our love and our gratitude♥️

My mom passed away 2 years ago. There will never ever be enough words to describe how much I miss her. This video hits so close to home that tears had welled up even before she got the fruits to him in the first scene. The irony of life is that the little things matter the most. They always will. Momma, wherever you are, I just want you to know that more than anything, my heart overflows with gratitude for you. Thank you for always bringing me fruit when I did homework. For staying up with me when I did projects for school even though you knew you couldn't help; your company was always enough for me. Thank you for always having snacks and warm food waiting for me when I got home from school. Thank you for always taking care of me when I'm on my period. For hugging me when life felt like a betrayer. For being proud of me, even when I didn't come out on top. For being the embodiment of tenderness and kindness. I yearn for that type of love again.
