    I have 20 colonies looking the best they ever have. No losses and tight slabs of brood. All credit to you, Bob, Ian and several others on YT that freely share excellent information. Great queens, dead mites, nutrition is definitely the key. Thank you.

    We still have snow and cold weather here in the Sierra’s of Northern California. I had 11 hives going into winter, down to 4 now, there just dwindling away. Last winter I didn’t lose a hive.

    Maple pollen already, man I wish we had that in Ohio. I used Global last year, the Bees loved it. Great product. Following the 3 rules of Great Queens, Nutrition, and Dead Mites I saw such an increase in colony size last year. Good stuff Kamon.

    Southern Alabama here, I had to add a box on two of my hives yesterday. They're jam packed and 7 full frames of brood. Crazyness...

  • @christianshannon3943
    @christianshannon3943 ปีที่แล้ว

    Caps and ladders frame feeders are easily taken apart to rinse out . Bob Binny uses that type . The only issue I have is that they make it too tight for the other frames . The one gallon size is suppose to take the space of one frame . So if I use nine frames in the deep hive body then try to get the one gallon frame feeder in it makes it way too tight . They work perfectly in the five frame nuc boxes but not the standard ten frame hive . That’s the negative I have .

    I like this kind of video so keep it up. Missing getting into my hives after taking an Ian Steppler type fall that's grounded me from doing anything but looking at the entrances for a bit. Ol ladies don't bounce back like we used to. As of yesterday I'm still 10 for 10. I've only been able to put 1 gallon of sugar water in an open feeder outside my front door and hope for the best on any days I've seen them flying here in mid Atlantic coast of VA. Keeps the strangers away from the front door. Lol.

    Pollen already I won't see that for at least 3 and half to 4 months, 20 below 0 this morning with 10 mph winds which put the wind chill at mins 40 below and snow. Mite management is very important here and good nutrition and full boxes of honey the bees survive the winter.Thanks for all that you do with the great videos.

    We have a week of cold rain coming. Time to make the Patties!

  • @sidelinerbeekeeper
    @sidelinerbeekeeper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I use Global a fair bit early season for the added pollen. A soft pattie has more syrup than protein, and more syrup means more water. At a $1.60 water is expensive. Once the colony grows, the bees produce enough heat to melt the patties down through the frames. I recommend leaving the wax paper on. Once brood rearing starts, I switch to a firm patty.

    Also, have you tried hardware cloth in your frame feeders? if you bend a zig zag in it and put it in the feeder it keeps the drowning numbers down. I learned this from the commercial apiary I started working in part time.

    Hey Kamon I have 7 hives 5 have about 21/2 frames of brood and the others 2 have maybe 1/8 of a frame of brood still a good cluster. I checked on the 28 of January and 1 had a superseder cell in it I got took it out because of the time of year. My question is how do I get those 2 to build up I put a hive alive fondent in for them is that enough. Thanks in advance for any insight or recommendations.

    Hey kamon i have a question and i reckon your the right man to ask swarm season is approaching and the question involves swarm traps.
    Im gonna bait old hives with old comb in it but i want to put some foundation frames in ther so they dont build on the roof of the hive like they did last year it was a mess.
    But at the same time some people say to many foundation frames mames the hive seem smaller and more likely to be rejected especially by the bigger swarms which is what im aiming for. Whats your opinion?

    • @ME_MeAndMyBees
      @ME_MeAndMyBees 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hivey...
      A Swarm needs a Minimum of 40 Litres Empty Area to 'arrive' into. (eg a Langstroth Deep !)
      I can't use Bait Boxes up Trees etc here in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.
      Hate Ladders and Heights ! Despite this : I had a HUGE "Incoming Swarm take residency" inside a x3 Box Langstroth Hive (An Ex Dead Out Colony:Drone Layer) I had in my Garden : Just sitting there. 👍This had only about x4 Deep Frames along one Side (Top) the x6 Remaining were Wired Frames with Starter Strips (no Foundation Sheet.) The lower Boxes were just the Boxes (Walls) and the usually Floor and Landing Board setup. With a small Entrance (to stop Robbing.)
      This Swarm just "Flew" into my Garden : ontothe Washing Line & Pole. Then made their way and walked right into this 'Ex Hive." That still stood on its Hive Stand. Just sitting there !
      Wow, the easiest Swarm catch ever ! Scout Bees came and went for a few days (I didn't realise this, thought my Bees were having a peek, and took away a bit of Honey. 🤔
      So Less is More ! Memo : More Box Space, less Frames (until you can close them in for say 24hrs ! Adding in a 'open' Brood Frame will "anchor" those Bees to that Hive. Nurse Bees are hard wired to look after uncapped Brood. Like Glue ! At the same time, add in several Frames with Drawn Comb, Foundation, Drawn Comb, etc. They then have fixed guides to NOT build Random or Messy New Wax Comb: It stays : Neat/Straight.
      Oh, and add a bit of Lemon Grass Natural Essential Oil in, onto some Kitchen Paper, in a Baggy / [Reuse.] Hate Q Tips !
      That Citrus Smell "Lures" wild Bees in for sure. Replicates the Queens Phremones, like a Magnet for free Bees, or your 'Oops' (own Bee) Swarm from going elsewhere. Simples.
      Hope this helps. 😎
      🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
      Happy Beekeeping 2023.
