  • When you're preparing for the bar exam, are you anxiously asking yourself, "How do I memorize all that law?!" "Is rote memorization really the answer?" "How can I condense it to fit in my brain?" Luckily, you stumbled upon this video by former California bar grader Jay Bijlani ‪@EsquiredBar‬ , who will show you how to break it down. You'll even find a fun mnemonic in there!
If (worrying about) memorizing the substantive law for the bar exam keeps you up at night, watch this video! As Jay had said in his introductory video, “How Do I Pass the Bar Exam?” the bar grader is looking for your Law Knowledge, or your true comprehension of the rules. However, there is a definitely a need for a substantial amount of memorization. He shows you how to make it more manageable!
As a first-time taker, you are likely in need of some concrete direction on this. As a repeater, you may have tried that other bar course or that other tutor and you discovered that it was all bells and whistles: a stack of heavy books, hours of lectures to watch each day, and workshops to attend, yet you could not keep up. It was an illusion of value. At the very least, you wanted to be able to have the law condensed or distilled for you, so that you could memorize it easily and write one decent essay per subject.
Don’t panic! ‪@EsquiredBar‬ Esquired Bar Exam Prep provides you with substantive law that is presented effectively and efficiently: accurate, logically presented rules, full of the keywords, or “buzzwords,” designed for the MBE and the essay grader’s eyes. This comes with your multifaceted bar prep tutoring course in which you work directly with former bar grader and law professor Jay Bijlani.

Who's watching with me in 2024?
Awesome information, Jay. Memorizing is a great step to becoming a great lawyer. Your tips are invaluable. Parsing a rule and highlighting keywords is key! What a treasure! FYI. My first lawyer was Jagdish. An intelligent and kind lawyer from Southern California! Thanks again!

This is a great question because there is so much that does not happen at the law school level for bar exam (and real world) prep that should, especially for LLM graduates. Through your research, you have probably discovered that, for the most part, law schools do not invite LLM students to participate in courses that involve bar testable doctrinal subjects. However, they universally do instruct them on the common law system and writing style favored by the bar graders. However, I would contact individual program administrators at the varous schools to give you details about their bar exam support. All the best and thank you for watching!
