An empirical dissection of modelling, such an intellectual joy to watch an listen to these. Microsoft should have NOTAM as the gateway to the marketplace on MSFS which would preclude bad models spoiling MSFS
Really appreciate your videos. I feel like I can really trust your reviews as they're all critical but constructive, so as a consumer I feel like I know what I am going to get thanks to your reviews.
Incredible work you do! I've been trying to do airport review for MSFS 2020 for a good few months now, still getting there but I'm just blown away on how you do the before and after shots - you must have to line that camera up to the cm but I'm baffled on how you do this. AMAZING!
The 3° PAPI is wrong, as you point out. The question is, does the ILS work and is the ILS glideslope at 5.5°? The steep approach is a crucial feature of EGLC. The P3d Orbx EGLC had problems from the start (I bought it). The runway and taxiway elevation was off and had water "pillows" around the runway. If Orbx want to resell this to MSFS users, they should update it. You can't port P3d aircraft so they shouldn't port airports.
Thanks for this very helpful review. I did purchase the Orbx pack early on but have not used it enough to notice the building blocking the train tracks and the taxi lights. I did see, on your views, a strange looking highway/ramp going out into the Thames and then stopping in the middle. I can't understand the developers allowing these kinds of "silly" errors to go out with their products. I also have a issue with so many objects under the water where there are rivers that should be floating. The Thames has many, as does the Mississippi in St Louis so I assume its an MSFS problem. Anyhow, thanks again and keep them coming.
This is one of the first Airports I buy for any Simulator, and you're absolutely right about the low res textures, and the gawd awful runway lighting lol 😁👍This is a port over from P3D that hasn't been updated for quite some years. You would have thought that now was the time for Orbx to give this Airport a much needed make over with MSFS's new texture rendering processes. If enough people shout about it, we may get some movement from Orbx to do something about it. I'll pop over to the forums and point the Devs towards this video if that is okay with you bruh? 😊👌I'll add my own comments as well backing what you have said. PS: the train tracks going through the building. They actually go under the block of flats in real life. The flats are built over the top of the tracks. Not through them lol 🤣😂
I saw the developer on the Orbx forums says he will fix these issues soon in an update. I wonder though how long we have to wait for this update given the airport has been out for a number of months.
Thanks for this. It's very important for these scenery packs to get the airports correct. The extra stuff is a plus but if the lighting is bad and the glide slopes are wrong then in my book they failed and I won't be buying. If they fix these and let everyone know they did then i'll reconsider.
Thanks Bjatc1, I agree. I find a lot of problems with runway approach systems and lighting in these packages and I just don't understand how this isn't more of an important focus for them. When purchasing an upgrade I'd be guessing that those who do want more realistic and simulated systems like you mention, not less.
Another great review as always. I bought this instantly as it's my closest airport and one I couldn't do without, but it is unfortunate that along with the London Landmarks addon Orbx did seem to have rushed it a bit to get it out as a day 1 release for MSFS. Would be nice to see them revisit and make some fixes to the issues with the lighting etc. The building across the dock from the cranes that you called a factory is actually the Excel Centre, a large convention and event centre!
Re the yellow runway edge lights you mention, they are only required when there are no centreline lights, see UK CAP637 document. It may be different in other countriesthough
Thanks for the info Malcaster. I've never dove into the requirements of them before, but I am aware of many airports that have both. Interesting information and I'll take a look, thanks.
Nice review. I can forgive some of the lighting faults as the airport is quite small and in a good location . I have it and think it’s one of the best european airports 👍
Love this review - would love to get the pack too but my FPS absolutely tanks around big cities :D Looking forward to my new PC I'm building next year which will hopefully run the game a bit better haha
Could you do a review of the new Hamburg airport available in the marketplace? Bought it and am mighty underwhelmed... A NOTAM advising against it would be helpful ;-)
I agree. Many easy fixes in a lot of these sceneries. My biggest problem with them so far is that they are not identifying and fixing them. I can understand mistakes, but I think they should not go ignored.
Lights and windsocks being incorrect is just not ok I think, if that is what the scenery package is meant to do... namely, update and make things a precise as possible then this is truly not good enough. Sugar factory but the lighting is wrong and the lines are poor, I am just not sold that they update these things. What has your experience been with regard to this? When if ever do ORBX update their scenery?
Another one where an otherwise excellent Orbx published product falls short of the mark. I do wish they would tighten up on the QA and stop rushing things out.
Good review of the details but its the details you pay for. Missing are the localiser and glidepath arrays. However one major item missing is the Thames Flood Barrier which is an impressive structure across the river next to the airport. Very poor quality for a paid for addon. Certainly needs an update. Orbx... don't let your standards slip. Getting a quick buck immediately does not pay in the long term.
No idea what has happened with those buildings that go through the traintrack there are no buildings like that near it in real-life. Oopps orbyx! 😉 And in the Orbyx London City Airport screenshots the buildings aren't there.
Thanks for what you do for the community. I am not buying any ORBX sceneries for FS2020. Awful night lighting, and building going across a train line, at that price? Come on!
Completely agreed. Once a company actually does something truly perfect then they will stand out as leaders in the modeling and attention to detail spheres.
I am kinda convinced now that ORBX has grown too fast with too many employees. The number and magnitude of the mistakes in this release is the proof. The quality of this release would never have happened just a few years ago. Too much pressure to release too soon to fulfill the payroll? Unfortunately, I’m sorry to say that their image is slowly eroding.
I agree Flight Level. I think a lot of these sceneries are recycled and pushed to market too quickly to take advantage of this emerging market. OrbX has really dropped the ball IMO on many of these as I always looked to them as one of the better quality producers.
Hey Dave Great review again showing positive and negatives sides to this. I love the way you do a direct comparison by panning and switching this is great. On this, would you be able to have a look at the Google maps decoder on Reddit. www.reddit.com/r/FS2020Creation/comments/j3faaj/google_earth_decoder_now_userfriendly/ I am interested in how this would work on maps etc and would love to see comparisons. I feel like this could be a useful tool. I am going to download it tonight when I'm on the computer. As always, thanks for your videos. Tom
Terrible job ..poor taxiway lighting ,landing glidescope not at correct angle etc etc You would think they could get that right ...shame because when they try they can get things right and it look fantastic Great review thanks!

Thanks Stuart, very kind words, appreciate it.

Great honest review.
Thanks Chris.
Nice one again, I wish the whole planet got this graphics, it would be stunning.... one day maybe.... somewhere in 2040 :)

Love all your reviews, they are so detailed tha I make my purchases based on what you say.
Thanks 265petsar, I'll keep trying my best to provide you guys with objective information.

Thanks pablo, the models are very nice in this airport.

Thanks for the great review!
I really love your content keep it up!
Thanks Chaos, appreciate the kind words.
Strange they haven't got the glideslope right. It would be the main reason for me to buy it. Good review.
Thanks Shuenix, agreed. Especially on these steep approach airports, that is kind of the appeal for anyone buying this.
Great review, thank you.
Thanks Kevin.

Requesting a comparison review of JustSim's and FSDreamTeam's versions of Basel that were just released :)
Are they in the Marketplace right now?
The problems mentioned look like easy fixes, you should communicate with Orbx to make them aware of these errors.
I agree. Many easy fixes in a lot of these sceneries. My biggest problem with them so far is that they are not identifying and fixing them. I can understand mistakes, but I think they should not go ignored.

The windsocks cannot be removed at the moment. That is the SDK problem I heard.
Another one where an otherwise excellent Orbx published product falls short of the mark. I do wish they would tighten up on the QA and stop rushing things out.

Yeah, ORBX has dropped the ball on a number of sceneries IMO.

Port Port Port.
Please get a job with Orbx.
lol, thanks Beanie.
Terrible job ..poor taxiway lighting ,landing glidescope not at correct angle etc etc
You would think they could get that right ...shame because when they try they can get things right and it look fantastic
Great review thanks!
Thanks Centurion. I was definitely disappointed for such a popular airport.
