From an Airline Pilot, A320s & B737s NOT ALLOWED due GS Angle 5.5 (normal = 3) because unable to make an ILS due ILS 5.5 impossible & against IATA/ICAO REGS!
As someone who is from Glasgow but is frequently staying in North Woolwich, LCY is a life saver. I land, get the DLR to KGV (one stop) and I’m a short walk from home.
I'm proud that you mentioned Lugano airport, that as to be one of the airport with the best approaches the instrumental as well as the visual and it's the closest to my hometown.
Well, a city and a municipality are different things. Technically Tokyo is like 5 cities, but its obviously one city-mesh if you look at a map. It's one city. Same with Copenhagen. The capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, is made out of about 27 municipalities, including one named Copenhagen, which just adds to the confusion. So its a city made out of multiple municipalities. But then we have municipalities in other parts of the country in which there are multiple cities. It can be very confusing. All in all, London is 1 city.
As a person who lives an hour away from EGLC, and a father who works in Canary Wharf, directly next to the airport, it's fine and very helpful to financial commuters.
There is also “the Emirates airline” a cable car that goes over the river, I’ve been in it, it’s in the direction of the o2, really close to the airport, I was riding it and planes come super close
My return flight from a holiday in Italy back to London Stansted got cancelled and we got put on a flight back to London City. Probably the only time I’ll ever fly to/from this airport but the approach was fun and you get to see lots of different attractions during the approach :)
A Random Aviator and when it was built the land around it was practically abandoned. It was part of a massive scheme to regenerate docklands, and in that respect has been a success.
Here's the truth. Unlike London's other 5 airports which were all built on RAF bases, it was built in 1987 from scratch on an old dock that by no coincidence was runway shaped already. Also in Heathrow, no flights are allowed between 11pm and 5am to get the locals some sleep.
As a Londoner, I don't believe this airport should be closed. I use it frequently to fly to Zürich and it's insane how much time I save when I do so, it's about 30 minutes from my house and the check in and security is very short. Other airports like Heathrow take hours to get to and have long security so using those is a pain in comparison. The only thing it needs is some better places to get food after check in
so your own needs are more important than less air and sound pollution and more housing and green space, right. london city airport barely makes any money and it just drains london, it only benefits a few people including you. its honestly just worth it to go to Heathrow if it means shutting down city airport for more housing and greenery.
Not to correct you but the biggest plane allowed to land at London city is the a220 (cs100) and ironically only Swiss operate the a220 into London city :) Amazing video!!

I slept by this airport (in the travelodge next door) since I flew out this airport. I used this because it was the closest to the centre. When people say there’s a tone of airports in London that’s when they’re wrong. London city and Heathrow qualify being within the boundary but Heathrow is an hour away with the tube. Another thing, people use London city because the business centre next to it like thameside and docklands are quite popular
Not located in the City of London but it is close to London second financial centre of Canary Wharf but has very good transport links to the City of London circa 20 min away.

The special version of the A318 that lands here actually goes to New York JFK, and it's the only narrow body to do the trans-Atlantic route. It's not direct, it stops in Shannon so all of the passengers can go through customs.
You need to update your LCY video, the airports being upgraded, aircraft include Embraer 190/175, Airbus 220, BAe 146/ Avro RJ and quite a few turboprops, its not just for business anymore, now 50% leisure, its great for people that live in London and southeast who hate having to get to Heathrow, the area has too many apartment blocks already for the local infrastructure to cope with, I use this airport as much as I can.
