What Games made me the Gamer I am today? There have been a few videos floating around and from the little research I did a trend on Instagram or maybe tick tock? (Is that how its spelt? I know that's the sound a clock makes?) @ThePoorMansRetroGameRoom kind of kicked this off for this line of videos and then @RetroRivals kept it going with folks like @SquarePegs and @NerdLife84 joining in the fun. So who am I to be left out?! Lets venture outside my normal RetroCart world and look at some games all the way up to latest gen consoles in this one!

One of my defining games would be NES The Legend of Zelda! I remember getting stuck at certain points and then exchanging tips during recess at school for how to get past those difficult spots 😃
Thanks Ben! Legend of Zelda on the NES is an awesome game, I’m glad you have those memories of it. I can remember doing that with Mario 3. Those blocks you crouch on were the talk of the playground for a bit there! 😂

"Fake gamer!"?!😂😂 ....Really, to me, games are supposed to be FUN! And if completing to 100% is fun, then go for it! But if it becomes a chore then its not so fun anymore...then why complete to 100%?? Play as long as it's FUN!! And if it becomes not so fun...then it's time to move on! Too many games to enjoy to waste time on work...I do enough work in real life! ...If that makes a "fake gamer" then sign me up! :)
Oh I totally agree. I haven’t even finished a 1/4 of the games I have, but still enjoy every one of them for one reason or another! It’s all about the fun for me! However you find the fun in playing them.
Oh man, great video! For me, it would be these 5. Even though they may not be my *favorite* games, they are the ones that really turned me into a gamer:
1. Super Mario Bros. 2 - NES
2. Dragon Warrior - NES
3. Final Fantasy - NES
4. Ultima Underworld - PC
5. Diablo - PC
Leaving the system on all night is a memory that we should all have as classic gamers lol. I once snuck keeping the system on for 4 days straight with Mega Man 3!
That’s an awesome list! Now I have played Mario 2 more I can see how people love it. I wish I hadn’t passed it over as a kid like I did. I love that you have both Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior on your list that’s epic!
That’s awesome! I absolutely did that with other games on the SNES. Now a days the new systems would over heat and cook under the stresses we put them through back then 😂

It was a rough time for sure but it has been a fun adventure re collecting things from my childhood.
It’s probably worth putting on the random list to play. I need to replay the undead nightmare DLC, it’s been a long time and I didn’t give it the attention it deserves when I did play it.

Thanks so much for the shout out and for doing a VR. Especially loved your memory surrounding Final Fantasy 7. Just happy everyone was okay and sad that you had to lose most of your collection. We did a hypothetical video on that and I gave Scott 7 minutes to grab as many things as he could fit in one box when in reality you definitely don't have time to grab anything!
Final Fantasy 7 has a special place in my heart as well. I didn't play it when I was younger but I beat it for the first time not all that long ago and damn near made me cry.... which takes a lot because I'm not an emotional person. Oh and I guess I'm a fake gamer too because I never 100% a game either 😂
As am I, it was a scary moment listening to him describe what happened, I can only imagine how Dad was feeling in that moment.
Final Fantasy 7 is amazing game, I’m glad you got to enjoy it, it tugs on so many emotions! It’s a total classic!
my wife made a video on her channel about one game if you were stuck on a desert island.. SUper mario 3 is it.. This is why we bought the super mario all stars, super mario world combo game! Good choice
That would be a good one if it was all you had. Imagine getting to speed runner level playing it if that was all you had. 😂
Fun subject to talk about for sure. Great spectrum of games as well, but thinking on this myself I go with more of "games that made me a gamer" approach & as someone who's never stepped away from gaming in my 34 years of gaming (I'm aging myself here) all of my selections would be old school.
If I had to pick 5 off my head I'd say Pac-man (first played), Mario World (first owned), SimCity (made me want to create), Zombies Ate My Neighbours (first hard game) & Shaq Fu (first bad game I loved).
Though I could easily list tons of others that defined directions in my gaming that weren't firsts like Starcraft & Chrono Trigger.

Those are awesome picks! Pac-Man is a classic! That’s an awesome first game to play. Mario World, Sim City and Zombies Ate My Neighbours are all epic picks! Shaq-fu is a fun pick too, it’s one we make loving jokes about here all the time.
I had the same thing, it’s hard to pick just 5 because so many games make us have the tastes and preferences in gaming that we have. That’s awesome, thanks for sharing your picks!
I am not going to lie, as a person that was at those lan parties i have to say that those were some of the best multi player games i have ever played. i am pretty sure i still have a couple of those systems floating around, if u want to do a special with mediocre old gamers playing against each other.

I edit with CapCut so most of my lower third graphics come out of that, which makes it easy to toss in.
Dude that Hat is AWESOME Brother, but man hearing how important that final fantasy is to you because of that fire which I am also sorry to hear about was really emotional bro I felt that. I'll never forget when Grand theft auto 3 came out also I had never seen or played anything like that before, me and my best friend ditched 6th period to go play it at another friends house oh man the memories🤣

Good choices of games. I played through Final Fantasy 1 about a year ago for the first time and I was surprised at how good the game holds up considering how old it is

Awe man itd be too hard to pick just 5 🤔id probably have to break it down into consoles plus i didnt get into rpg’s right away as a kid til i played shining force for the genesis. But id have to say super mario bros nes and super mario 3 nes. Double dragon. Pole position on atari. And our first nes as a kid we had the running pad with the mario/track and firld/ duck hunt and we played the crap outa the running pad. But to be honest id have to break it down into 5 per console cuz theres too many good games i played as a kid and i still love playing to this day

That’s awesome! That would be a fun list too. I’ve always said the NES was my first love, but the SNES is my true love. After that I moved to PlayStation and then Xbox.

Just started your video, had to pause it, cause right off the bat you talk about the Intellivision, when No one really talks about it, I just started following you earlier this year, because I follow Scott & Jen on their Retro Rivals channel, I told them what started me as a gamer was playing arcade game's as a child in the 70's, I was born in 1971 and my sister and I received 2 game consoles in the same year, either Christmas of 1979, or 1980, our biological father got us the Sears Brand Atari 2600, while our mother and Step father bought us Mattels Intellivision that same Christmas, and my all time favorite on the Intellivision was Astrosmash, I played that game a lot with my friends and my sister of course

@RetrocartCollector , yeah the only game my dad got us for the Sears Brand Atari 2600 was the pack in game, combat, but my mom and Step father got us Bowling, horse racing and Space Battle, my friends and I thought Space Battle was ok, but we played the horse racing game and Astrosmash a lot, I remember I would whip the shit outta my horse Ealy on to win, but found it to tire my horse out faster, lol
@@EvilMyers I had Bowling but had never seen Space Battle until now. That’s a pretty cool looking one too! Horse Racing looking interesting too, that’s funny you have memories of doing that 😂. That’s totally awesome, the Intellivision needs to be talked about more!
