    I really don't get people arguing about the guy wanting a video of him dancing silly to be removed from social media.
    Admittedly, european talking, so indeed pretty sure RGPD would apply.
    Yes, he should have expected it to be filmed. Also, not everyone is behaving perfectly 100%of the time on the off chance they'd be filmed in ways they don't want to be seen by potentially a lot of folks. OP's in their rights to keep the video in their private circles. However, once it's shared publicly, the husband's part of that shared video. That feels to me like ground enough to ask that said photo not be shared publicly, or at least with him in the video.
    To be fair, twitch folks would watch a streamer sleep on camera, so pretty sure they don't get the concept of right to privacy lol ( don't take this seriously, just a free shot)

      I'm just curious what the situation is with this 'conservative' girlfirend and family. do they disagree with drinking? because he obviously does drink. Has he been acting like he doesn't? because he's going to have bigger problems down the line keeping that up. Do they have a problem seeing him having fun? Dancing? that's not conservative, that's 'ultra-orthodox'. Honestly, if they're really *that* conservative, you think they'd have a problem with the concept of divorce in the first place.

    • @TemperanceL2
      @TemperanceL2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@Nowolf I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd agree with that. But to be fair, this isn't really the problem at hand in OP's situation. Admittedly, even if he provided no reason other than "I'd rather not have this video of me shown publicly online" that'd be good enough justification (of course there's also ways to ask for this, being willing to maybe compromise if he could be cropped or sthg, but I don't think he was necessarly mean about it).
      In that sense, someone could think the pants they wore thay day looked bad on them. Maybe they feel self conscious about x or y. Basically, someone could have a multitude of reasons to not want to have their image shared publicly online (emphasis on publicly). And so in that sense, the justification isn't needed as much as the fact that they simply would like it removed from public view in my eye.

    • @Nowolf
      @Nowolf ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TemperanceL2 nah, I can agree with the idea that the nice, and reasonable considering your connection with the person, thing to do is obvious. but the motivations on his part are definitely cause for concern, especially, again, considering that co-parenting thing. I mean, it's one thing to be so conservative that you don't drink, or dance; it's another thing to have the expectation that other people in your life don't.

    • @Wolfgang_von_Caelid
      @Wolfgang_von_Caelid ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@Nowolf have you never met ultra-conservative Christians...? Also, that little detail from the post is _really_ not relevant to what he was asking; it frankly doesn't matter _why_ he wanted the video removed from social media, if he doesn't want it online for anyone with an internet connection to see, then it should be deleted, period. You can have the opinion that his reasoning is bad and that he is setting himself up for future failure, I think I'd agree with that, but again, that isn't the point of the post and is irrelevant to his question concerning is right to privacy.

    • @invaderfrombeyond
      @invaderfrombeyond ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Nowolf Yeah, not to reiterate but the serious point here is: it literally doesn't matter why he doesn't want that video circulating.
      If there was a really ugly picture of you taken on SnapChat by a friend and they tossed it up on their story,...Then you politely let them know that you share friends and don't want anyone seeing that picture,...then they said "eh, sorry free country."
      You'd be reasonably upset that something that is focused on you in an unsavory light was up on the internet without your consent; now pretend you have to raise a child with this person you can't trust.
      Again, no matter what his reasoning is; that is beyond the scope of the matter; we could speculate thousands of scenarios on why the dude wants it to be kept private, but truthfully none of them justify leaving it up (seemingly) purely out of spite.
      Like NL said, it reads like someone who is trying to start unnecessary conflict with their ex, because truthfully there isn't another reason for not respecting the other person's privacy.

    the nl vs picky eaters arc returns

  • @JGD714
    @JGD714 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    As an extreme picky eater I have to agree with NL. My pickiness is mental to the extreme, and I have had to go to therapy about it. Like if say a person eats something they don't like, they just go "oh I don't like this" but can still eat it at least most of it. I can't. One bite of something I don't like is already too much. At two bites I'm forcing myself to not puke. At three bites I will be rushing to the closest bathroom to puke. I've had to work at it to try and expand my possible menu all my life precisely because of what NL says. I often times was the person causing everyone else to be uncomfortable because I didn't like anything in a restaurant menu. My parents would adjust family outings for me, as well as vacations, to make sure I had something to eat. I couldn't ever go to a friend's house for lunch, because I wouldn't eat anything and their parents would look at me weird. I always had to make it after lunch. I did have to make the effort to at least find several universal menu items I can eat, and am I glad I did it before I finished college. I still always try to look online menus of everything, but it is extremely liberating to me that now 99% of the time I can look up the menu online and immediately pinpoint two or three items I can eat and be at ease. Now whenever my parents want to go to a restaurant with me and my sister or we're at a family vacation we can visit the restaurants they want, and though they still worry about me I can now say don't worry I looked it up I already know what I'm gonna order.

    I just came from watching this on Twitch VoD and this was in my subbox but I have to say Zoomers in the chat were insane in the wedding video one. People absolutely should have a right to not be filmed in public, just as people have a right to film in public. I 100% agree with NL that it must be a generational thing, as I was already a teen to adult when social media was becoming big and the idea of possibly being filmed all the time was something I had to think about with a functional brain. You don't need to ask everyone for permission when filming, both morally and legally, but I also think you have an obligation to take something down with someone in it if they request it for whatever reason.
    Things on public social media go viral at seemingly random, and you see all these memes that have come from things put online without the video stars consent, all to make fun of the person in the video. It's psycho to think you should just accept being recorded without your consent by being alive as a human being, makes no sense.

      It baffles me that NL's logic on the wedding video was "why doesn't she just take the video down" but for the one with the homeless couple with the wedding picture of their hosts kissing he thought it was insane to expect them to take down the picture. I see these 2 things as nearly the same situation but he ended up on totally opposite sides of the issues. For the record, I think they should both be left up and I'm the same generation as NL (I'm 38). If that ex-husband was the focus of the video instead of just in the background I'd agree that it would be the right thing to take it down, but she shouldn't be prohibited from sharing a nice video of her kids and mom just because she accidentally caught her ex being embarrassing in the background.

    15:12 I'm actually on the side of the mom. That dad is a douche. He *expects* to get a gift, and fights furiously to not pay the daughter as a simple "hey, good job!" It's her small business and it shows he thinks she's doing good for herself. Then he tells everyone in the family about the whole thing. I feel bad for the young girl that just wanted to bake a cake. Some people give their kids a salary, money for simply existing pretty much. This would be her getting money for doing something, showing the value of work to someone still growing. Yeah, the mom could've just given her the money, but she probably wanted the "thanks" from the one receiving the cake.

      He EXPECTS the gift because it's his birthday, who wouldn't ? Now like one of the commenters said, to go around your husband's back and sell his birthday gift just to spite him when she could pay the daughter herself is very petty, also he thanked the daughter when he went to her first and asked for a cake as an affirmation of ability to bake, also as a man and stepdad who considers her his daughter (by calling himself the dad) he probably wanted to be pampered a bit and it was a special day, men his age don't get much affection thrown his way outside these days
