I wish the predators and humans would just worl together to fight the aliens instead of the predators and humans fighting each other. They would have a better chance of winning if they did.
I read an interesting detail about the making of this scene. Sigourney Weaver insisted that the she would never see the puppet suit of The Queen before the lighting, mist and other preparations for this scene were complete, because she wanted to be genuinely afraid of it. So when Ripley sees the queen for the first time, the reaction on Sigourney Weaver's face is legit. She really is terrified of how frightning The Queen is.
Even if it's true, I don't think Weaver actually was afraid. Her reaction is good cause she is a good actress. But it might have helped her acting not seeing the puppet before all the effects.
That sounds very "James Cameron" to me. Wasnt there a similar case where the marines had to build relationships between each other, basically becoming good friends before recording even started. But Ripley as the outsider never met any of those guys and therefor there was always this awkward distance between them. Poor Sigourney Weaver... she had to go trough a lot of shit for this movie :)
1:10 you know. That single look she gives without saying a word but at the same time saying a 1000 things is probably my favorite moment in cinema history!!
We can. The beauty is that the documentaries made by now show all the tricks and tactics. All this shit can be bought at Home Depot for cheap. All it takes is patience and that's what a lot of filmmakers can't afford nowadays because even microbudget is expensive for people today.
@@theincrediblehulk5797 Exactly, she's probably the most obvious example. But there are literally hundreds of movies, comics, books, games etc before this with strong female hero leads!
Every bullet for every nightmare of them that Ripley suffered, every bit of fire for the absolute hate that Ripley has for them. This is definitely one of my favourite scenes in the movie. Love it.
Yep. Absolutely. You can tell that Ripley hates the Aliens / Xenomorphs with an unbridled passion and wants to get her pound of flesh out of their asses for all the misery they've caused.
Ripley’s courage and maternal instincts to protect Newt are clearly evident in this scene. Although I find myself feeling sad for the Queen after she ordered the other aliens to retreat to protect her eggs, and then Ripley killed the ones that were hatching to ensure their escape. They were both doing the same thing, protecting their young.
I mean the queen made the egg open up so it kinda doomed itself and the eggs. I mean other than the nuclear blast but i doubt the aliens knew about that
No the queen was different, they initially agreed to let eachother go. The queen however was planning for the egg to hatch and attack one of them. That’s why Ellen starting massacring all of them. The queen was no fool, she planned that. Either way they would have all died so that was a smart move on her part. She didn’t know the planet was going to be destroyed so that was a pretty lucky call.
The moment the queen wakes up and made that eerie hissing sound, it always sent chills all around me. Especially when it echoes. Although, the movie was a big action movie as well as a scary movie. Ill say this was the creepiest part in the whole movie.
Patrick Dumas yeah, her breathing sound always gives me chills. Makes her sound like she’s seriously pissed off (which given the situation of this scene, she likely would). And you defiantly would not want to be the object of her anger.
Its actually James Cameron making those hissing noises for the queen. Thats why the sounds are different from the other movies. James Cameron didnt like what the sound designers came up with and did the effects himself (later on, he did the same thing with the T-1000's death in Terminator 2). It actually became a trademark for his movies....to have his voice appear in every movie, but not his body.
Whatever fear Ripley had left was instantly transformed into pure, absolute, and unrelenting hatred @1:10. Regardless of what happened from that time forward, she was through with running from those things.
It was because the queen went back on her promise to let them go without attack. She made the egg hatch to attack them before they leave. That’s why Ellen was pissed and started killing all of them. So that was the Queens fault
@@blahblahblahaha actually the queen is really intelligent and decided to let her go but face huggers who aren’t intelligent from birth and act on instinct didn’t care or listen to the queen like the drones and adult aliens did so neither party had the choice to decide what happened next. It was just the face huggers fault
The Queen telling her children to back down was so cool, it really speaks volumes about the intelligence of these aliens. I almost felt kind of bad when they started shooting at the Queen, since it seemed like she was going to let them pass, but it's almost like these aliens, and their hive, are connected to the Queen, like she commanded the eggs to open so they could kill Ripley and Newt.
The Xenomorphs are hive-minded creatures, which allows them to communicate and be one not just with the queen, not just with each other, but the hive as well. Which, unfortunately for the drone and soldier Xenomorphs, means that they can't make decisions entirely on their own, they need the Queen to be given orders from.
It's established through the novels/comics that while the drones aren't especially intelligent (they're only about as smart as an average dog), the Queens have like 200+ IQ, making them smarter than most humans ever born. They're capable of not only understanding cause and effect, but also concepts like delayed gratification, long-term planning and lying/misdirection. Given all that, I highly doubt that this Queen intended to let Ripley and Newt walk away. More likely once they were safely away from the hive (and the precious eggs), the Queen would immediately send her remaining drones after them.
@@Zaxares Or simply send some sneaky Facehuggers to ambush them. Problem is, based on that one egg opening up, the Queen was too impatient. She should've waited for Ripley and Newt to be waaaay more back, before sneakily commanding the egg to open.
The aliens and hive being all practical make this all the more frightening, I can get behind the fact that Ripley and Newt are being threatened by real life creatures rather than computer animations
This puppet from a film that is nearly 40 years old, doesn’t look dated in the slightest at all, CGI could never top the legendary queen alien herself in this masterpiece of a movie.
If you watched the behind the scenes sequence of how they shot this, it's actually quite funny. The flamethrower Ripley uses actually caused so much damage to the set when she was roasting the eggs that once the scene was over, firefighters had to rush on set and put the fires out because they got TOO out of control.
The female character of Ellen Ripley is so well written because she is FEMALE. She is not invincible, she's weak, afraid and vulnerable, but she endures in the end. Her mothers instinct is apparent through the whole movie. In fact both the first movie and this second one has one coherent theme: Motherhood and the cycle of life. The scenes with the Alien queen also touches on the theme of female rivalry and the deep hostility and revenge that female enmity can create. I think this scene really captures this reasoning, the absolute fear and rage when she unloads the weapon that she barely can hold. This is also one of my favorite scenes in this movie. The best female action hero alongside Sarah Connor (who is also badass and a very feminine character)
One thing I liked is you can tell the queen has a much higher degree of intelligence than the rank and file. She sees that while Ripley might be in the lion's den she isn't defenseless. She reasons that while it is possible to kill or capture her the cost to do so is too high for 1 target. The drones and warriors would've stupidly attacked and caused a lot of damage and gotten nothing to show for it. I'm sure what was communicated was probably along the lines of "Now is not the time. She goes free. For now..."
The intelligence of these creatures was always astounding. Like I've played AvP and learning how to be a Xenomorph you use their wall walking, their sense of smell to indicate potential threats. You can either attack from a distance, but you also figure out how to tuse their maneuverability to gtfo when it gets too hot. Until you fight the predators for the first time and you're like oh shit XD
@@creepymaster2746i don't know that it was the queen so much as the nature of the eggs themselves...it was ready to hatch and sensed a target. Im sure ole queenie was none too pleased because they could've just chased after her later.
Ripley losing her shit in front of the alien queen is just another iconic moment from a legendary movie. Easily the greatest female action icon we'll ever see and still the template they all look too.
Nah. I think I read somewhere that the face hugger parasite within the egg detects a "suitable host" when one approaches the egg at a certain distance. Therefore the eggs opening up, is more instinctual, rather than on command by the Queen. I believe the Queen thought she could deceive Ripley by feigning a less aggressive posture (commanding her guards to back down), knowing full well her mature eggs would hatch, and the face huggers would then subdue Ripley along with Newt. The Queen alien is considerably more intelligent than humans, but at the same time, during this scene, fears the destruction of her future progeny.
Its possibility that the queen did since Ripley walked through dozen ove eggs and none them opening up by proximity makes me wonder if the queen intentionally ordered her drone to place newt very close to the queen herself at very centre ove the hive I bet she even knew Ripley location moment Ripley killed the facehugger and the alien in fact I think the queen as been present all the way through entire movie moment she commanding her drones to find more hosts, assessing level threat and if there were any the queen would send swarm dozens aliens to deal with it. In my opinion eggs didn't open up for Ripley simply because the queen herself wanted to see Ripley and deal with her herself whether curiosity, show dominance or to gloat at Ripley queen wiping out all marines and taking on the colonists to queen point ove view she had won with added bonus that she still had dozens drones for her to command she might've thought well one host isnt a threat but keep those drone guards ready on standby lol
After all these years, I just realised that Ripley could have saved herself a whole lot of trouble later on by just unloading a few of those rounds on the Queen.
@@SunsCam0531 In the AVP games, the Queen is generally invulnerable to conventional weapons. You often need to acquire plot-specific equipment or use the environment against it.
The creature effects are so realistic, it feels like I'm watching a nature documentary. Since there were puppeteers inside the queen and people inside the xenomorph costumes, I wonder how were they able to avoid getting burned by the fire and explosions? This movie is a cinematic treasure.
She's using a real Thompson M1A1 fireing blanks, it was dressed up by British movie armorers Bapty & Co. The two Space marines using heavy MG their guns underneath the prop dressings are MG42 so are the sentry remote guns.
This whole scene is classic from beginning to end, but what elevates it to uber-classic is that it has not one, but two amazing reveals packed into it. First, the cut when you see Ripley's face up close, and then it shows the shot of her and Newt standing among the eggs. That got a huge "Whoa!" from the movie audience when I saw it. Then the slow turn Ripley makes and then a cut to that huge freakin alien queen. Ripley looking up at it in awe as to the queen's size, as it just towers over her. Absolutely brilliant. I saw this in the theater when it was released and it is BY FAR the best movie-going experience I have ever been a part of.
My favourite scene in the whole franchise! You can just see in her face at 1:13 all the hate she has for the Xenos just explode out. The hatching of the egg was probably a coincidence and she knows the Queen and her brood are going to be nuked in a few minutes. But she thinks the Queen has reneged on their bargain and just let’s rip!
I just love all the weapon sounds they came up with. The Pulse Rifle report is iconic on its own, but the WHAM of the grenade launcher is just so satisfying, too. They did so much right with this film, I swear.

A masterpiece. Gotta love how Ripley tells the queen through her actions to call off your dogs and fck off or I burn the house to ground and then she breaks her word when the egg hatches. Aight its game time then
I was 7 in 1986 so wouldn't have been allowed into the cinema to see it. But, my parents did alow me to watch it a year or two later when it came on TV. Genuinely scared the heck out of me and yet got me hooked at the same time, lol... to the point that I'm a massive Alien/Aliens fan today.
From what I heard, Weaver (Ripley’s actress) actually suggested not to the Queen Alien animatronic until the set and lighting for this scene was finished. So she was genuinely intimidated by the animatronic.
I love Ellen Ripley, one of the best heroines in film history. And I loved playing as Amanda, her daughter, in Alien Isolation. This is such a classic scene, and I feel like Sigourney Weaver still hasn’t been given all the respect she deserves for playing such an iconic character.
And here you have the inspiration for every resident evil game! Finding the heart of the problem underground, big monster to defeat, and a self destruct/time limit and alarm sequence to finish
They could easily have ended it with the Queen dying in her lair along with the eggs, but Cameron took it to the next level and have it that the Queen escapes and chases Ripley onto the spaceship. That's why Cameron's movies are so amazing. Always surpassing viewer expectations.
Aliens is the greatest Science Fiction Action Horror movie ever made! I think what I love most is Ripley's lack of restraint. She just WANTS to blow every last one of these filthy abominations to hell. When she grimaces and grunts while expending nearly every shred of ammo she has, it's sheer emotion. Hatred, directed at an appropriate object, is truly something to behold.
I remember watching this scene and seeing the reaction on Ripley’s face when she slowly realized that she’s in the nest and then turns around suddenly seeing the queen. I pretty much said, “Ohhhh sh*t.”
Queen Alien: Okay chill tf out with that flamethrower. there you win, i’ll let you run.. happy now- *Facehugger hatches* Facehugger: Ah, first day! Queen Alien: oh you just doomed all of- *Ripley starts to shoot out the flames*
It's a face-off between two protective mothers: Ripley with Newt (her new adopted daughter figure) and the Alien Queen and her egg brood. The pain that Ellen Ripley went through losing Amy (her real daughter who she never saw again as she floated in space for 57 years) made her fiercely protective of Rebecca ('Newt'), and she would fight like hell to not let her down, abandon her or give up looking for her...that instinct was stronger than any fear of the xenomorphs.
This was the point in the story line that she finally took a stand. Her crew in the first Alien were killed and and taken to be fertilized by the the zenomorphs. She finally had enough. Bad ass scene.
This has got to be the best monster in movie history. They actually had this prop in a museum exhibit and I wasn’t aware, but went with my parents when I was like 9. I had already seen the movie but when I walked in that museum I almost shit my pants. Nothing can prepare you for unexpectedly running into a 20 foot tall Xenomorph Queen.
Not the whole planet, just the colony headquarters. The Fusion core exploded with a ten megaton yield, around the power of a large thermonuclear bomb. In fact, the derelict vessel miles away from the colony center might have survived the nuke as well

this is to me is definitely the most intense, chaotic ends to a film, it was truly brilliant, everything from the sound effects, the creature effects, the music
from the first fight with them through the duct of ventilation ,then this fight and finally on the spaceship amazing
It wasn't even the end! The last 30 mins of this is just suspense filled adrenaline that is rarely replicated anywhere else!
The Predator would be so proud of Ripley
If it makes you feel better
Theres a comic where the alien, predator and terminators fight
And the predators actually capture and acknowledge Ripleys ability and actually trains her and gives her weapons and stuff

She really is terrified of how frightning The Queen is.
seems like something someon came up with on reddit or any other incel forum.
Even if it's true, I don't think Weaver actually was afraid. Her reaction is good cause she is a good actress. But it might have helped her acting not seeing the puppet before all the effects.
Wow love that fact also these things scare the hell outta me and these are real suits and stuff is so cool
@@philipmohlin3887 She has often stated this in interviews.

This is definitely one of my favourite scenes in the movie. Love it.
To end this hellish nightmare once and for all.
I guess you could say: Ellen Ripley's xenophobic-

God the face Ripley makes before tearing the eggs to shreds

Brilliant acting!
Yep. Absolutely.
You can tell that Ripley hates the Aliens / Xenomorphs with an unbridled passion
and wants to get her pound of flesh out of their asses for all the misery they've caused.
I love that expression, Ripley's face says "Really bruhh?"
Yeah at 1:37 it’s beautiful.
Yeah I know I felt bad for the Queen too.
I mean the queen made the egg open up so it kinda doomed itself and the eggs. I mean other than the nuclear blast but i doubt the aliens knew about that
@@karebear4485 yeah I see what you mean here.
No the queen was different, they initially agreed to let eachother go. The queen however was planning for the egg to hatch and attack one of them. That’s why Ellen starting massacring all of them. The queen was no fool, she planned that. Either way they would have all died so that was a smart move on her part. She didn’t know the planet was going to be destroyed so that was a pretty lucky call.
fuck that queen…
The moment the queen wakes up and made that eerie hissing sound, it always sent chills all around me. Especially when it echoes. Although, the movie was a big action movie as well as a scary movie. Ill say this was the creepiest part in the whole movie.
I know what you mean. That first hiss when the queen wakes up sure gives you chills as it shows that this is one alien you do not want to mess with.
Patrick Dumas yeah, her breathing sound always gives me chills.
Makes her sound like she’s seriously pissed off (which given the situation of this scene, she likely would). And you defiantly would not want to be the object of her anger.
Is amazing how this Movie contains so much aliens and also a Queen and the next to movies compared is nothing but... Pure Bullshit in comparison
@@blahblahblahaha those things have no honor huh
@@blahblahblahaha how can she make the egg hatch?
I'd say even if Ripley DID pass through, she'd still be killed for finding the hive
Stan Winston: MASTER OF HIS CRAFT!
If you watched the behind the scenes sequence of how they shot this, it's actually quite funny. The flamethrower Ripley uses actually caused so much damage to the set when she was roasting the eggs that once the scene was over, firefighters had to rush on set and put the fires out because they got TOO out of control.

It's that bit, when she's unloading the pulse rifle and the camera is shaking, she's looking pissed and everything is blowing up! It's just THE BEST!
1:37
She has a lot of pent up rage.
@@jtgd yeah no shit.
The pulse rifle is almost spluttering and skipping towards the end, like it can't quite keep up with her rage.
Xeno Queens are supposed to be way smarter then humans(not that that's saying much)
Yet the queen was yet stupid or cocky enough to break the truce by opening the egg
@@creepymaster2746i don't know that it was the queen so much as the nature of the eggs themselves...it was ready to hatch and sensed a target. Im sure ole queenie was none too pleased because they could've just chased after her later.

No .. the facehuggers feels there are humans around us .. the queen knows that .. she cant command the facehugger
Its possibility that the queen did
since Ripley walked through dozen ove eggs and none them opening up by proximity
makes me wonder if the queen intentionally ordered her drone to place newt very close to the queen herself
at very centre ove the hive I bet she even knew Ripley location moment Ripley killed the facehugger and the alien
in fact I think the queen as been present all the way through entire movie moment she commanding her drones to find more hosts, assessing level threat and if there were any the queen would send swarm dozens aliens to deal with it.
In my opinion eggs didn't open up for Ripley simply because the queen herself wanted to see Ripley and deal with her herself
whether curiosity, show dominance or to gloat at Ripley queen wiping out all marines and taking on the colonists to queen point ove view she had won with added bonus that she still had dozens drones for her to command she might've thought well one host isnt a threat but keep those drone guards ready on standby lol
The non-verbal communication in this scene is excellent.
That movie was made over 30 years ago and to this day it still puts to shame 95% of the sci-fi movies that are coming out.

Stop talking about it all the times
You are talking straight facts about Ellen Ridley.
Since the whole planet was going to explode, I can only assume that Ripley torched the eggs simply to piss off the queen.
Not the whole planet, just the colony headquarters. The Fusion core exploded with a ten megaton yield, around the power of a large thermonuclear bomb. In fact, the derelict vessel miles away from the colony center might have survived the nuke as well
