0:00 - Those two weeks at Charlotte in 2001, the Winston all-star race and the Coke 600, are where I became a Ryan Newman fan - from dominating the Winston Open qualifier until his engine blew with 2 to go, to going out and sitting on the pole for the 600 the very next week, all with just 2 Cup races under his belt to that point? He definitely got people's attention.

@@gabemarques9073 Same. People shouldnt get mad. Newman races that way with every single driver, his entire career. And you know what? It clearly works for him. Most of his wins came from some pit road strategy with old tires
I believe Dale Jarrett even said when Newman was in the hunt for the title in '14, "he's the best I've ever seen on two tires". There is no way that 31 car gets to homestead in 2014 without him in it. And certainly it put him in the playoffs last year, giving life to a team that so desperately needed it. I doubt anyone will look at that team and predict he'd make the playoffs. Most scoffed at it, barring an unforeseen win. A format that doesn't favor overachievers as much as raw speed thanks to stage racing. But Newman did it man. By 3 points. And those 3 points were in large part to him racing someone's favorite driver on lap 83.
