In addition to frays, perhaps mention Notice Board > Events > Gallery showings to help players whisk to other islands. Also dock ferry to get to habitted islands in archipelago. Sea Monster Hunts that require a Bravery Badge (5 dubloons). Atlantis and Haunted Seas usually take 90+ mins. Leaving early could result in mute. Cursed Islands are shorter, but usually require tokening. Kraken Hunt (Intro of video) is a fantastic money maker. Each dip is 30 mins and can ease the player into learning battle navigation in the future. (ask to borrow a rowboat kit for first time) Highly recommend. Labor badges (5 dubloons). Requires the player to perform one session of the crafting puzzle every 10 days, so you can not log on for a few days and still make PoE. Highly recommend. Great video. Hope we get more players soon!

Also, if you feel super newb and want to focus on a single duty puzzle in particular, Navy Missions on the missions board are good places to get practice. The pay is garbage, but you'll be guaranteed the duty station of your choice, and there won't be fights to interrupt your puzzling, just the occasional break at port. If you want more of the same, don't leave the ship when it's in port. It'll be back to see in a minute or five anyway. Go get a snack, stretch your legs, and you can just keep going.
I would say a normal pillage is a good place to start! You can hop on and off after each battle if you want. With sea monster hunting you'll probably be expected to commit for a longer period of time but have a go at both and play whatever you have the most fun with!
