Great vid buddy! It’s such a huge subject, and your experience is super valuable to all us trying to learn more 👍

Hey I am watching the video and I have mostly all new old stock and lots of it but I have all you keep talking about and then some- the gold plated stuff like the gold plated metal cans with gold lags, and even the big gold transistors, plus small 3 lag gold transistors, lots of IC chips many with gold, LEDs, and all kids of radio parts most old military stuff.. and like 95% all new old stock parts that I have wanted to sell to someone who can use it all. but I have also wandered about recovering the gold off/from it all. all together there's a few totes of this stuff. The rubber made totes you know.
what's your thoughts about what to do with it all? quite a bit still has old radio shack prices on it. I know its thousands maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of parts.
just don't want to list thousands of eBay listings for it all. It would be thousands of ads for each type/model of item.

    Excellent video!!
This video reminds me of some of the early depopulating videos of Ewaste Ben. When you get enough product it will be cool to see how many grams per kilo you'll get!

Great info. Never knew diodes had gold in them. Or ALL transistors either. Thanks from a fellow scrapper. 🤓👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Fantastic info Omega 👌🏼👌🏼I love saving mosfet’s and transistors for copper, didn’t know they had some gold too 🤘🏼🤘🏼👍🏼

Great class. I had to go back over my boards to get the transistors.. I had like 1 pound of transistors on my boards that I was about to send to the scrap yard.. good class

Fantastic information! Thank You for sharing your knowledge. I also depopulate the entire board with a heat gun. I keep everything until I know what it is. Many thanks again - I look forward to part 2! Jim in Phoenix.

Those little-bitty transistors have decent gauge gold bonding wires. They're probably at the uppermost end of weight to gold content.

I have bags of the LEDs I've been hoarding. I love to see how you recover the gold from those!
All the things I've been talking about loving to see videos on in the comments I know it takes a while to accumulate and then make the video! I'm just letting you know that I'm interested!

Very informative. Thanks for taking the time to share. Plan on making a video on those mosfets myself in the future. From my testing they are generally about half copper by weight.

I've always left these on the board because they never seemed like it was worth the effort plus it's kinda of a pain to get those off the board. But now I'm saving them.

with the large power transistors, all you need to do is whack them with a hammer. The large chunks of plastic will come off the heatsink and the legs will fall away cleanly.
I have video of me processing the large transistors using my vise and a pair of pliers. I just put the transistor into the vice, clamp down on the sides and use the pliers to rip the heatsink right off. It leaves the Die and gold wires (if any) embedded into the plastic epoxy.

i thought the transistors bolted to ally heat sink were copper ?

They are, and sometimes I’ve found the odd brass one

Steel too sometimes. I've seen them rust when left exposed to the elements.

They all contain a little gold but the copper they hold will probably make you more money 👍

I noticed you don't process any ceramic capacitor or mlcc. I'd be interested in them from your depouplation of your boards.
KLove the videos very detailed 👍
