Your video is very well done. I've watched 3 others today and yours is the best. Why is that you ask? For one, you have your pros and cons listed on the screen. Two, I saw your note cards, so your organized, know what you want to say, and then say it. Three: your talking to us. By this I mean you aren't wandering around a sporting goods store or in a boat casting while trying to make a video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and you now have one more subscriber.
Also people should know braid can act like a hack saw on softer metals or non ceramic parts. I've seen this first hand with heavy use casting all day long it will cut into pole guides and also damage your spinning reels -all bad when you hook a Screamer.....
i tried braided line for the first time this summer, i never had so many knots in my life. seems like all i was doing was trying to untangle it before getting rid of it. i guess they call them wind knots.
I learned by losing a big fish when my braid overloaded my guides and bent flat with my pole.. Return more gear with braid... But it's also what I like as my preference..
I use braided line on everything bc I've gotten tired of fishing for crappie with weak line and having a huge fish hit my bait and brake me off before I even realize what's going on. With braid u never have to worry about getting broke off
Should have reviewed monotex with the rest of them... Ive been using the 10lb Power Pro on my baitcasters for 2 yrs now and love it... I also use 6lb. Gliss (monotex) on my ultralight set ups... Crazy strong line... Have you done a review on it yet?
I think you get what you pay for with line, regardless of type. I think the best braided line by far is Berkley Trilene pro grade. It runs about forty to forty-five bucks for three hundred yards, but it's worth every penny. Braided line can be strong enough to muscle large bass out of a mass of weeds and others vegetation. Fifty to sixty-five pound test is still very thin, and means you'll keep a lot of fish you would lose with lower test line. My experience with fluorocarbon is that it makes excellent leaders, but I think it's a very poor choice as a full spool line. As a leader, you get all the benefits, but none of the disadvantages. There's just no reason I can find to load an entire spool with fluorocarbon. For me, the only two advantages of mono are: 1. Price, but it isn't nearly as cheap as most think. Between sun damaged line, broken line, tangled line, etc., you have to replace it far more often than braided line. 2. The fun factor. I love ultralight fishing, and unless you use two to four pound test mono with an equally light rod and reel, I don't think it counts as ultralight. It's a true challenge to land a large fish with a tiny rod, and very low test mono line. For me, this makes it fun. I'd never use hundred pound test for catfish. What fun is that? It's like hauling the fish in with a winch. I wouldn't use anything over fifteen for bass, unless in a tournament where you have to muscle fish, and can't use a landing net. Hundred pound fish have been caught with two pound test, and this is what makes you a fisherman. Just as with hunting, or any other sport, it's sportsmanship that matters, and this means giving the fish a fighting chance, and of need skill to play and land a fish without breaking fragile line.
James Ritchie Power Pro is the shittest braid I've used. I was using 15 test in freshwater and with a 2/4 ounce lure it snapped somehow. Switched to this pink Ande 12 test and hasn't broken yet.
I do all kinds of fishing, Single handed fly, Skagit and Scandi, Bass on both spinning and casting and last but most certainly not least Spinning and Casting for Striper, Blue Fish and Falsies and I always use Jerry Brown Spectra and I don't believe I've ever had an issue with fish being frightened off by the intense yellow of my floating lines or with my line breaking. Now I have to say that I always use an invisible leaders so the issue for frightening fish away is simply not something I've ever experienced. I size my leaders to the weight of what I'm throwing and what I'm trying to catch and lengths to the length of my rod. As far as a shooting line for Skagit or Scandi, again I use Jerry Brown because I think it is the best braid out there. To connect the braid to the shooting head I do not go loop to loop but instead I use a very small Swivel connecting my lines with loops to the rings on the swivel. Now I should say that when I started using the swivel it was because the Spectra was just destroying the factory made shooting head loops and before factory loops were common my home tied loops as well. I also use the smallest swivels when connecting my shooting head to my sinking and floating heads but not to my leader. For Skagit and Scandi I attach my sinker to leader with loop to loop connections. For my leader or tippets I cut off a length of Mono about 4 or 5 feet long and tying a loop in each end I have good solid connections for attaching my fly and back to my sinker as well. I've never had a problem with big or little flies not turning over however for single handed casting I always make up my own leader and tippets according to a recipe published by the Orvis company many years ago. I tie these with a nail knots and a drop of epoxy on each knot which if applied very carefully helps the knots glide over the water surface without much disturbance.
I like mono but it floats..So I went to floro and the hook set is awesome but you better make sure you tie a good knot or you will break it off..Once that hook is set on 20 lb. Floro your home free..Braid is a BEAST line for flipping a jig in heavy cover and top water..That's the only time I use it..So I say overall the Floro is the best line out there..SEGAR. is some good stuff.
Cant u use a flourocarbon leader when fishing braid? It sucks cause if u get snagged u have to retie the braid to flourocarbon but still it helps the visibility issue. Im a beginner in using a baitcaster and at first i put 15 lb mono and compared it to when i put 20 lb braid power pro, i got less birdnests which is contrary to the popular belief that mono is better for beginners and better casting distance like u said with braid.
Braid is really really good line but there is another con that needs to be mentioned. When you hook up with a fish of any size, braid can and will saw in to your eyes, especially on cheaper less durable rods. It's happened to me with different brands of braid, and different brands of rods. Now for a best rod that has more of a resistant to that happening is the Berkley lightning rods which have more of a thicker type eyes. But it will still kind of of saw into your eyes so check onto that.
If you are fishing for crappie or bluegill in heavy cover, I recommend mono for sure. Inevitably the jig or bait hook is going to get hung up. Light mono is much easier to break off without too much worry of moving/dragging the structure and spooking nearby fish.
What about knot strength and tying them? The braided can be a challenge especially the slick it frays and has static making it hard to go through small loop. The fluorocarbon if you don't lubricant your not the fiction melts the line making 6lb test 2lb at the knot. Etc... I use fluorocarbon now but might go braided with fluorocarbon leader line.
Can you advise what lbs test is best when using monofilament fishing line on a small spinning reel for sun fish, pan fish, small mouth and crappy bass? I mostly fish the park' lake, but this year Im hoping to do some fishing in the river also. I have not fished for two years do to illness, but this year, I have my motor powered Native water craft kayak just about ready with the exception of loading the reels with line. A trick for monofilament fishing line I learned off another channel was to pull your spool off your reel after loading it with line and put it in hot tap water about 10 minutes to remove the memory from the packaging spool to the spool of your spinning reel. Thanks.
Jeremy Trout i know that markets are full of fake chinese big game trllene and powerpro lines at least in the countries iv visited but dont know about the US!
I pretty much only use a spinning rod. I was having so much trouble with copolymer and flourocarbon I decided to go to monofiliment. I can't seem to break down and spend the money on braid.
Same here. I usually fish with mono as it's still a good all around fishing line and so cheap. Braid is nice to have on a pole or two for certain types of fishing like fishing heavy cover for bass
Andrew Lines I believe the name speaks for itself. But if it works the same as a rope the tighter the pull on the line the stronger it gets until it maxes out my best guess
For a scientific explanation of why fluoro is hard to see in water check out my "Ice Fishing With Fluorocarbon" vid. You guys might get a kick out of it. Thanks for sharing. KPO
+Adventure Time Outdoors I like the brave fisherman braid. I've never had a problem with the 100lb braid breaking on me and have caught a 75lb catfish on it. It's a little thicker than other braided lines but catfish don't seem to care. Definitely can't beat the price!
AnglersEscape I ordered 30 lb line. I figure for $9 you can't really go wrong. up here in Canada lines like power pro and spider wire sells like $30 for 100 yards. Just crazy. thanks for the message back.
it is perfect for bass it floats on top of the water I would go with spider wire but braid is terrible to fray, I would not throw in the littlest of grass
Trilene is a good line for catfishing. If your going after large 20+ catfish with cut baits and live baits I'd use 30-50lb mono (however you will need a large reel to hold the line as the diameter is much thicker than braid). If youre going for catfish under 20lb with worms, shrimp, dough baits, 20lb Trilene is good. Even 20lb test can catch big fish though if you have your drag set right. I caught by personal best 46 lb catfish on 20lb trilene monofilament.
Spider wire is decent for the price. I currently have 12 lb spiderwire fluoro on one pole and haven't had any major issues with the line breaking, but it does have pretty bad line memory. Seaguar and Berkley are definitely a lot better (less memory and seem to be more durable). Definitely a price jump though.
D Kat I think it is a really good line payed less than $2 for 600 yards 4lb test was catching quite a few 14+ inch stocked trout plus many panfish Walmart has a lot
Yes, after 2 years experimenting, it's more about the fishes hunger that makes them decide to take a bait, but that also can depend on areas where they are pressured vs areas where fish were not pressured, if fish have not seen lines that often you can catch them even with wire traces on. Lines are preferences, just like rod actions. Now I prefer braid on spinning gears, but do watch out, they'll mess up guides and reels if those were not designed to handle braid and you'll also have to be more precise with the brake on the reel. Braid combined with a 7' fluorocarbon leader works best for me, 1 year ago I've tried braid on a baitcaster and had bad luck with it, seems that now I found the right setup for it.
Bass fishing- braided line for topwater and pitching pads, braided with flouro leader otherwise. Trout fishing- either flourocarbon, or thin diameter Nanofil with a lengthy flurocarbon leader. Flourocarbon works better as a leader than as a main line, IMO- too much memory on a spool, tangles easily.
. can you just tell me . i fishing in river. so i have rod for spining and ground-angling. what lines are best for me? i currently have on spining MONO. and on ground one braid. (Sorry for eng.).
+Jonathan Nguyen I got it off amazon. It's super cheap compared to other brands but after testing it, it broke at 80lbs of tension. Still worth it though for catfishing, can't beat the price
Anime4 Mii Why? Just use steel wires. You can use virtually any line, preferably 20-40 lb braid, then spool up (make sure to use mono backing!) Then you should put a steel wires on. No pike will bite that off!
Setem Fishing lmao yea you can braid is so much better you think that because you catch small fish that dont break off i cat and pike fish braid is necessary for big fish
I generally like monofilament for ocean fishing. Many ocean fish have pretty good sight and the water is often clear. For beach fishing, I've found 20-30lb mono works well.
MountNation186 if you're only using lures, yes. but if you're using topwater, better with mono. if you're using jerkbaits/stop/pause lures, flurocarbon leader.
I like to tie a braid backing then a mono or flourocarbon leader
Good video. All good content, no noisy background music, got down to business and stayed on point. Thank You
great video, your videos are good because you understand that you don't have to spend a fortune to catch fish, keep it up
I find that braid is best for catching fish, fluorocarbos is best for catching spiders, and mono is best for catching birds.
Ash Scott hehehehe
Great vid.
Today a lot of guys are using braid, and adding a 10' fluoro leader.

I recently bought that omniflex line and it's the best mono I e used, it doesn't just snap it has a lot of stretch before it breaks

Thank you for the break down on fishing line. I'm new to fishing and this video gives a baseline on what line s use in certain circumstances.

Michael Ferik Technically, mono is more abrasion resistant, but using heavier braid will help in better cover!

I think that is the best route honestly.
That video was "tight".....as in the way a fishing line should be. Will definitely aid in the fine tuning of the skillz. Thanks for sharing.

What would you think about the eagle claw mono line quality compare to other brands ?
anglersescape does monofilament go bad even though it's never been used? I have a box full that has been kept in my garrage
i can see your script 1:22 to 1:38
Madogyo562 Mobile I
So?
What about for surf fishing with what line would fish with??
I saw some mixed reviews about the trillene big game they said it had some bad memory and would tangle easy how are your expirences with the line?
Jeremy Trout i know that markets are full of fake chinese big game trllene and powerpro lines at least in the countries iv visited but dont know about the US!

What kind of line should be good for fresh water for trout?
which fishing line is used for silver carp fishing and in what strength?
What size spinning reels did you show in this video ?
Tell me the difference in thickness and strength between 4strand , 8 strand and 12strand braid ?
Andrew Lines I believe the name speaks for itself. But if it works the same as a rope the tighter the pull on the line the stronger it gets until it maxes out my best guess

I just got 50lb braid in the same brand for the same price as you
Skyler Cawdrey i got 85 for 24
Hey man sorry to bother u but do u think bass will see 10 lb braid im trynna get braided line just straight up
it is perfect for bass it floats on top of the water I would go with spider wire but braid is terrible to fray, I would not throw in the littlest of grass
I wouldn't use 10 lb braid..go to a 40 pound braid and use a BLACK sharpie to color the line about 16 inches and you will be fine.
i notice you have Trilene fishing line.I am thinking about using it for a liter line for catfish.Your thoughts?
Trilene is a good line for catfishing. If your going after large 20+ catfish with cut baits and live baits I'd use 30-50lb mono (however you will need a large reel to hold the line as the diameter is much thicker than braid). thank you for the info
How about hybrid line , like copolymer?
also do you like spider wire? I always thought because its so cheap it would suck.
AnglersEscape I love
How many pound line should I get for my plusinno telescopic rod ?
What's your opinion on Fireline?
Fire line is really good for crankbaits and spinnerbaits and its cast a mile..good stuff
Well put, young man. Thanks for the info.
+Leo V Glad you found it helpful. Best of luck fishing!
So what do you think about that Zebco Omniflex ? I have used this and it is very inexpensive.
D Kat I think it is a really good line payed less than $2 for 600 yards 4lb test was catching quite a few 14+ inch stocked trout plus many panfish Walmart has a lot
I am looking for how much test line to use and what does it mean?
I haven't tried braided line yet, so I'll give it a try, thanks
Do you think 8lb fluorocarbon can catch bluegills and crappies?
crazyaboutnature I don't see why it wouldn't

. can you just tell me . i fishing in river. so i have rod for spining and ground-angling. what lines are best for me? i currently have on spining MONO. and on ground one braid. (Sorry for eng.).
In Australia that braid cost $50-60 dollars
What is the best type of line for bobber fishing for walleye
Maybe for float fishing, stick to mono or try co-polymer.
I have gosa spinning reel, just wondering if i can put 100 lbs mono on it.
That sounds like a nightmare. I would highly reccomend braided line on a spinning reel
Would you use 12# fluorocarbon on a 30 spinning reel or would you use braid on your spool with a fluorocarbon leader
Braid
is eagle claw any good I been using spider wire mono
FUCK YOUR FEELINGS BITCHES thank you
Thank you. I did learn. You might add something about color.
Where did you buy the 100lb braid
+Jonathan Nguyen I got it off amazon. It's super cheap compared to other brands but after testing it, it broke at 80lbs of tension. Still worth it though for catfishing, can't beat the price
Jonathan Nguyen if you gonna buy cheaper braided lines, go with KastKing Braid. very decent line and still very cheap.
I've been using the same braided line for 2 years
Thanks for the video..now i know which one to buy.
su phan use braid for regular stuff and mono/fluoro for leaders. or just mono all the way
What do you recommend for pike fishing?
Anime4 Mii Thank you!
Anime4 Mii Why? Just use steel wires. You can use virtually any line, preferably 20-40 lb braid, then spool up (make sure to use mono backing!) Then you should put a steel wires on. No pike will bite that off!
Great video as usual!
Thanks!
Great informative video thanks for your time making this video!
great advice... like the way you have your setups...100 Lb & 50 Lb.
Braided line does not melt
Braid with leader
Best line video on youtube. Thanks
+K B glad you liked it. Good luck fishing!
excellent video .. these old timers just say what they prefer and aren't as clear as you were ..
Dude can u tell me the name 100 lb catfish line and prices
+Eric George the 100lb catfish line is from Bravefisherman and it's sold on amazon. I think it's around $20 for 1000m
+AnglersEscape

Very informative. Thank you so much!
Good job man! Thanks!
nice video. great info!
Can't beat mono.
Yes u can..lol
Setem Fishing lmao yea you can braid is so much better you think that because you catch small fish that dont break off i cat and pike fish braid is necessary for big fish
How about ocean fishing ? Fishing line ?
I generally like monofilament for ocean fishing. Many ocean fish have pretty good sight and the water is often clear. For beach fishing, I've found 20-30lb mono works well.
Braid: Shadow Legends
80lb spiderwire stealth braid with a 40lb berkley big game mono leader! All day!
Why use mono for a liter?..Floro is wayyy more sensitive and you can feel the bite better.
great video! thank you for sharing your opinion.
You see the paper come out at the bottom left
the vicious flourcarbon always bird nests to easy what do I do ):
Get a better reel..lol
Really don't like braided line I'm gonna try something new
Thank you !!
+Heriberto Morales Glad you enjoyed the video!
would a good all around fishing line for bass be braid? (Idc about $)
MountNation186 if you're only using lures, yes. but if you're using topwater, better with mono. if you're using jerkbaits/stop/pause lures, flurocarbon leader.
Good info!
Good video. Thanks.
great vid thanks
Daiwa tournament evo 😍😍
Where you live?
Great video thx just answered every question I had. Lol
thanks
wow im early on this video :D
Haha, I hadn't even finished the video annotations
