    Perhaps Led Zeppelin's most underrated song. A real hidden gem!

    • @jkovert
      @jkovert 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't understand why people always say this. TYG has always been regarded as oner of LZ's best. It's on regular rotation at classic rock stations. Underrated by whom?

    • @PongGod
      @PongGod 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@jkovert I honestly can't remember the last time I ever heard it played on a classic rock station. It doesn't get a fraction of the airplay of "Stairway to Heaven", "Dazed and Confused", "Black Dog", nor probably a half a dozen other Zeppelin songs. So that's probably why people always say this.

    • @jkovert
      @jkovert 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PongGod It was always in rotation. Not a hidden gem at all. Not underrated.

    • @PongGod
      @PongGod 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jkovert Whether something is underrated or not is a completely subjective statement. If you don't think it's underrated, fine, but you even admitted yourself that many people think it is.

    I grew up with Led Zeppelin playing in our house. My dad was a drummer, a guitar player, piano and singer. I play the drums, my brother plays the guitar and he's the best musician out of us, my sister plays bass. I know all the words and how to drum most of the songs she's hearing for the first time and it's fun to watch her fall in love with Zep! I did at an early age. They're timeless. Led Zeppelin is just one of those music groups that can't be replicated. Many can play their songs fair enough, but never quite do it like them. Jason Bonham can, but he grew up learning music from his dad John Bonham and it's their DNA. But most of us can't, That's why they're timeless.

    Robert Plant said that he wrote this song about a girl he knew back in high school. She got married and settled into a conventional life as a housewife, while Robert became a rock god. Their lives diverged, but he still thought about her. The warmth of the guitar work complements the lyrics very well. I've always loved this song. I played it a lot in China, and the people enjoyed it deeply.

    I found myself tearing up in the during middle of the song. Musicians and those that truly feel music will understand. If I tried to analyze my reaction, I would say it was a combo between being moved by the music and seeing a younger gen person that gets it as well. One of the greatest song transitions ever appears between 5:08 and 5:52. What the hell is that dissonant cord that Jimmy plays between 5:08 and 5:52? What ever it is, it's awesome.

      If I'm thinking of the chord you're referring to, played with a single upstroke at the end of each line in the middle eight, I would describe it as D6addE (no 3rd). Guitar is tuned to drop D and you simply fret the G string at the 2nd; all the other strings are played open. At least that's what I'm hearing 😀

      CARCAR: Plant was married to the same woman from 68-83...Zep was actually notoriously boring on the road, except Bohnam...More importantly, Plant and his wife lost their 5 year old son, Karac, to a stomach virus that took only a couple of hours to kill him in 1977...Led Zep was on tour which was cut short as a result...perhaps you ought to do a little research and examine the evidence before you hand down the judgment...Plant was a family man...The LED Zep song All My Love by Plant and JPJ is a tribute to Karac...as far what you 'heard' about the song's inspiration, Plant tells it himself. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Years_Gone#Recording_and_production

      Why do people recommend this performance when the one at Royal Albert Hall is clearly superior?

    • @ginger4141
      @ginger4141 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@coreycharles2245 I think because yes Royal Albert so much better as it's they have revolved through the years. The Denmark performance is just more raw and at the time shocking to hear. I say do both versions.

    • @chrisnealis4270
      @chrisnealis4270 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coreycharles2245 Superior or equally bad ass in their own special way. Danmarks was early and raw Zep, before they were big. Royal Albert Hall was Jimmy's Birthday party which he celebrated as a freshly crowned god of his art form. The encore was the icing on the damn cake.

    I heard this song was very literal. Robert Plant was 26 at the time and reflecting on his first girlfriend and how their lives had changed since they went their separate ways.

    Probably been written already but here it goes.... Plant wrote the lyrics about a Woman he was in Love and had a serious relationship with. She gave him a choice of her or the music!! Fortunately Plant took the road he was meant to, leaving her behind. The song is written 10 years after the split, being famous, life of a Rock Star and still thinks about her after all this time. Almost questioning what would have been. Planty sings with a lot of emotion in this song. Must have been one heck of a lady to still be on his mind and in his heart.

    My understanding is that Robert Plant was seeing a woman who gave him an ultimatum, the music or her. We all know what he chose. This is his contemplation of those circumstances. Please react to “The Ocean”, “Hey Hey What Can I Do?”, “Dancing Days”, “For Your Life”,”Achilles Last Stand” just to name a few.

      If she reacts to The Ocean, it HAS to be the Madison Square Garden performance. 👍😉
