Harmonies. The members are Chynna Phillips ( mother is Michelle Phillips of The Mamas and The Papas & Knots landing fame) and Carnie & Wendy Wilson( father is Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys). Empress listen to Hold On by Wilson Phillips it's their most popular song.
That entire first album of theirs is fire! That was one of the first CDs that I ever owned and bought with my own money, partly because my mom got tired of me borrowing her copy and playing the song "Over And Over", which was my favorite song on the album on constant repeat
Awesome! Chynna, the blonde, is a friend of mine. Their harmonies are still the same today. They still get together a few times a year to do a show and still have tight harmonies. They have been singing all their lives. I love their voices together
Bobby, tell your friend I still listen to her solo album (wish it was on streaming though) and that they need to get Glen back into a room with them and record some new original songs again!
@@FindingMadonna you know I forgot about the solo project. That was the one with Naked & Sacred on it. She wants to record again. She's missing it. She's trying to sell down some copies of a Christian album she did 10 years ago with a friend called Chynna & Vaughan. She has a 19 year old son battling stage 4 cancer and winning so far, so her plate is kinda full right now. But she will record again because music is so healing.
@@bongoboy11 Oh, I saw Billy post about their son recently. So unfair when young people have to face something like that so I hope he pulls through. I'm not really the audience for Christian music, but I do enjoy WP's Xmas album.
@@LilRocker2005 Sad to recently discover that she's pals with an "ex-gay" who preaches that gays should find Jesus and stop having sex. Because we've seen how well celibacy worked in the Catholic church. And there's a video of her telling her young, gay assistant that his sexuality is a sin, but she does under the manipulative guise of "I'm a sinner too!" Anyway, still like her music but disappointed to see how small-minded she's become.
Wilson Phillips is an American vocal group consisting of Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson, and Chynna Phillips, the daughters of Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and of John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas, respectively.
These ladies and Amy Grant were my pop guilty pleasures from the early 90s. In 1991 you could not blink without hearing them! I think everyone got really tired of them back then but now it sounds refreshing. Brings back fun memories from childhood. 😎
Great song by them. I liked them a lot when they came out. Great songs Inspirational 🙂. This one in particular one of my fav’s. They sound so good together
I remember buying this album on cassette tape when it came out in 1990. I loved the whole album and their harmonies are amazing. I was 13 years old that year, so whenever I hear it, I think of that time in my life. My favorite song on that album is actually an album cut, 'Over and Over', followed by another album cut, 'Next To You.' They've released a handful of albums over the years and occasionally perform live (and still sound great). The two red-haired women are sisters and the blonde is their friend; they've been harmonizing together since they were children. As others have mentioned, they are the children of famous musicians (the Beach Boys and the Mamas the Papas).
They recently were on the Kelly Clarkson show singing their bigger hit, Hold On. They still sounded really good. They didn't have phenomenal success with their career, but their first few songs were really big, and dominated for awhile. Here's the link to the Kelly perfomance: th-cam.com/video/WXC6yitrId8/w-d-xo.html
Did you ever see the fun 2011 comedy "Bridesmaids" with Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson? Wilson Phillips were the wedding singers and played themselves. :-)
Wilson philips is the group of girls that sang at the end of the movie bridesmaids. That was them. They were good. I did listen to them a lot back then.
Carny and Wendy (the girl with the bob and her sister with the long hair) are the daughters of Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys. Chynna (the blonde girl) is the daughter of John and Michelle from the Mamas and The papas. Chynna had a solo career in the 90s that didn’t really take off. Her song ‘I Live for you’ was on the soundtrack for the much hyped Demi Moore film ‘ Striptease’. Wilson Philips biggest hit to date is ‘Hold on’. You may heard it! It was also given a little resurrection in the comedy ‘Bridesmaids’. :)
Glad this person requested this. I would be shocked if you haven't heard "Hold On" and just didn't realize it was them. I think "Release Me" and a couple other big hits get overshadowed by "Hold On," which was the biggest single of 1990. Reminds me of being at the beach with my family when I was little. They were (at the time) the biggest selling girl group of all time. Along with En Vogue, the best harmonies out there.
Wow this is crazy: during the papa don’t preach reaction when you were talking about whether Madonna’s short blonde look started a trend, this was the first video I thought of
Their debut self titled album from them sold 10 million copies and spawned 5 hits including the biggest single of 1990-“Hold On”. Their harmonies are definitely off the chain! Chynna Phillips is the daughter of Michelle Phillips (of The Mammas And The Papas and Anne Mathison from “Knots Landing!”). Carnie & Wendy Wilson are the offspring of Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys! Their 2nd album “Shadows And Light” had more variety but lowered their profile! The have done a couple of remake albums and some projects apart but this is a case in which the whole is more than the sum of its parts!
Since you like this one I'm sure you'll love their other big hit Hold On. Their songs are emotional and very empowering. You might find it interesting to know that their fathers were huge giants in the music business, founders of the Beach Boys and The Mamas & the Papas
I’m sure they can get together again and be harmonious. These are the daughters of very famous artists. Chynna is the daughter of Michele and Papa John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas. Carnie and Wendy are the daughters of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. They come from a very musical background. I still have the Shadows and Light Cd and now have it on my phone!😍😍😍
They still perform together occasionally. I think they have active WP social media accounts. S&L is so underrated. They've put out a couple of covers albums over the years (and a Xmas album), but I wish they would record some original material again. Would be curious to see what they come up with. Before it's too late!
Yes!! YES!! and Yes!! They were just on the Kelly Clarkson in 2020 sounding just like 1992! Chynna Phillips and sisters Carrie Wilson and Wendy Wilson come from music royalty. Their parents are from music iconic groups Mamas & the Papas and the Beach Boys!💓💓💓
The interesting thing about these ladies is they each have three very different voices. The blonde, Chynna, takes the middle range while sisters Wendy (red head) takes the high parts with a really unique almost quirky voice and Carnie (the shortest with the bob haircut) takes the low parts and she easily has the most gorgeous voice I think of the three although rarely did the lead parts. They only had a couple albums of original material that was almost entirely written by the three of them and then did an album of covers of their famous parents (Mamas & Papas; Beach Boys) hits for the most part. Their harmonies shined on the studio tracks but maybe never sounded quite as polished live but definitely had talent. This song was the follow-up to "Hold On", their debut single, which was THE BIGGEST hit of 1990 on the charts.
One other thing I would like to add. Their were two thin girls, and one thick girl. And, the media at the time tore the big girl apart. Front page articles about her weight. Comparing the other two looks to hers.

Oh, and I love the ending of the video mix, but the album version has an extended a cappella intro that's really pretty.

I liked a few of their songs. They had their own show a couple years back. The Blond got hotter and the other two still look the same. Lol.
Them white girls can SING.
i think they should have highlighted one of the singers instead of the harmonies. are they all singing to the same guy?
