    Indians down on the Klamath want to start a sucker hatchery and the were a main food source for them.They even used to have sucker canneries and they said it is was good as canned salmon.Same with the Indians on the Columbia but I bet they have never eaten one in their lives and we have shitloads."Largescale sucker are reported to have been consumed by the Mid-Columbia Indians of the Columbia River between Celilo Falls and Priest Rapids (eastern Oregon and Washington States) [69]. In the early 1800s, they were caught one of two ways: in traps made of willow baskets set on a stone weir or snagged with a three-pronged hook on a line. They were a highly valued fish that was considered as important as salmon. Available in February and March, they were the first fish after winter months, providing a refreshing change from dried winter foods. A popular myth recounts the tale of how a largescale sucker was rehabilitated from a fall from the sky with the bones of other animals. The purpose of this was so that the fish would be available for people to catch and enjoy. The unusually shaped bones of the sucker provide detail for the story, with some of them referred to as “grizzly’s earrings”, “raven’s socks”, “cricket packing her child”, soft-basket-woman monster”. Shad roe sells for a higher price than salmon does on the east coast and we have millions."Wild Shad Roe, 2 Pair ; $64.99 ; $64.99 - $64.99 ; Current price $64.99 ; "

    I have been catching fresh winter broodstock in April and May.The guides are all crying about it because it conflicts with their spring Chinook fishing in the Columbia and Willamette.That doesn't mean that they aren't there.The Cowlitz is stocking as many as ever but they are much later and they just don't beeline straight to the hatchery hole.

    I am not even kidding and the same thing with these Indians on the Columbia and you couldn't force them to eat a sucker." Aug 29, 2022 - Nearly half of the money this year, $10 million, will go to the Klamath Falls National Fish Hatchery to breed 60,000 sucker fish annually"

  • @joebrenner4428

    The Indians used to call April the Sucker Moon not the Park Your Fatasses On a Fish Ladder Month or Deploy the Gillnets Month

  • @joebrenner4428
    @joebrenner4428 ปีที่แล้ว

    What would it cost to ship 60,000 suckers to K-Falls annually?A few hundred bucks maybe.Maybe they could just drive up to the Columbia and do their ceremonial sucker dance and pray to their sucker gods and just pretend it was the Klamath?
