Bill you are one of the most educated guides about the fisheries, can you please explain how in the world we got here with the Gill nets getting so many days in a roe to rape the river. I just dont understand, we throw back wild fish and now we get screwed by the States the whole month of September.

Not my cup of tea to fish should to shoulder in a boat but I have to compliment how great everyone was around you when you hooked that screamer. Just fantastic to see wonderful people surrounding each other helping each other get out of the way to avoid cutting off that fish. Gives me hope for humanity.
Yes, everyone was courteous and if they would have hooked a fish we would do the same for sure.

I fished that place about 30 yrs ago. Brought the family up to Oregon, got a place right at Gold Beach and my balcony overlooked the river. With all the boats fishing I went down to rent a boat, fished a couple hours with no success but Loved every minute. Such a beautiful place and I love fishing for Kings. Did that for over 30 years on the Feather R in N Calif. in 2002 we caught 2 over 50lbs and several 40+, very unusual year

They like them down there I usually don't use them. Probably cause you nave to stiop them quick from going intot he boat next to you so you onkuy have a short time to grab the rod and put on the brakes. And the boat 5 feet from you can hear it also.

If I had a camera that did not overheat and shut down. GoPros can have a tendency to overheat and turn off when left on for prolonged periods. I have learned that you can plug an external battery into them and turn off the front screen and that really helps.

The guide always wants it netted fast....the reason is sea lions will take your catch if you take to long
@@philipdennis-rh7uj Not in the ocean. You virtually never see a seal or sea lion in the ocean while salmon fishing. In the river, it can and does happen though (not as often as some would have you believe).
Gotta find a way to get the takedowns on video, that's at least half the fun (and more than half the fun when watching a fishing video)!
GoPros overheat when you leave them on and it also kills the batteries. But yeah I agree.
@@salmontroutsteelheadermaga5925 DJI Osmo Action 4 has much better battery life, but yeah i usually go through 5 or 6 batteries a day. Also, looping mode on the gopro is a great feature to only keep the files with action shots so you dont have to sift through hours of footage.
I’d love to see that weight set up you’re using. I only have one down rigger and need a way to have more lines down at the same time when my kids are with me.
We were just using lead balls. Coho are close to the surface in the ocean.

not to worry most people cant afford to go with a guide with licence price and guide fees staying at the local motel etc ... that being said these guides are top notch with a great sense of humor and they catch fish for their clients !
The Rogue is no secret. You'll find that out when you go fish there. You do not need a guide just a boat with a motor. You can also cast hardware from the bank.

What’s the line counter at when you guys are trolling for salmon ?
The Bay section is all shallow 12-25
well California salmon is closed many Oregon rivers are completely closed . what are on earth makes you think the rogue run is magically strong. its not its's in a steep decline. they count the run at Huntly park you can check for yourself. we had a 50% decline last year. They counted 400 fish in 2023. the salmon belong on the reds not in your freezer to be thrown out next time you do a freezer cleanout please self limit yourself to one fish. be aware of the fishery.

Early season Coho in the ocean are always on the smaller size. Coho can put on a pound a week in the ocean before heading inland to spawn August thru December. Hatchery Coho tend to come in sooner and wild Coho later.

Yes I 100% agree. The rod reamers are tapered and will do a better job and are easier to use. You can also get gel epoxy for the handles and reel seat.
