Sound advice as always Dr Arora. I'm reflecting on these 3 points now coming out of training and my experience over the last 3 years and what my mistakes/tips would be.
I think your third tip depends on the type of person you are. My self expectations and criticism has always been such that it sometimes has become counterproductive and at times I have struggled from a mental health perspective; so actually telling yourself to that being "just ok"/enough to some extent might be beneficial for a certain type of person. Coupled with this I guess my second mistake would be not reaching out when struggling. I hit a low mid way into my second year and kept it to myself, which had a negative effect on my training and overall experience.
Asking the right questions is definately important but also seeking out the right experiences - much of my rotations have seemed heavily service provision with little distinction as a GP trainee compared to for example what I did as an F2. This is often coupled with secondary care staff sometimes not understanding or seeming disinterested in your training needs as a GP trainee. For this reason I'd say there is a greater onus on GP trainees to actively seek out experiences that are of greater value to community care (And not doing so would is one of my mistakes). For instance, during my orthopaedic rotation I spent far too long having to holding tools for the senior for hip or knee ops I had seen countless times when really I needed a better balance of community orientated resources such as the musculoskeletal clinic, seeing the variety of outpatient clinics etc. Even to see it once gives an idea of who and where your referring patients to when in primary care and it can be difficult to get that exposure later on into training.

Surely the first mistake you made as a G.P. trainee was choosing to be a G.P. Why not be a real doctor?
