I sit here, exhausted after a long day of law school, dreading the pressure and grind of my future...my eyes drier than the can of sardines I'm eating for dinner from hundreds of pages of reading. I often wonder if I have what it takes, but when I watch your videos, Taku, I remind myself that one day, I can be free too. The price for freedom at times just seems so high, but when I see the life you get to live once you've done the hard work, it is much easier to open my eyes the next morning and keep getting up. Thank you for what you do and how you chose to live. It is beyond brave, some may call it insane, but you done it, and to me you're such an inspirational man. Never let someone deny your dreams!

I dunno, last weekend I caught ocean Coho off Depot until my arms hurt...and had a fabulous dinner to follow! Not convinced I have to go to Alaska for that. Though I certainly wouldn't complain about doing so! lol

You have a somewhat of an unorthodox fishing style, cast right handed but reel left handed. But it works for you and it’s all that matters! Great Alaska content, can’t wait to see more.
How about trying a little hook set after the strike. Sharpen your hooks even right out off the package. Test the hook point on your thumb nail. It slides across without sticking. Your hook is dull. Sharpen until sticky.
I really enjoy how much you enjoy fishing in Alaska. I hope you come back up again. Something you might want to try is sheefishing in Kotzebue. An experience you will love. Love your food, and will be doing some of these recipes with my son who is a chef.

Taku, As a commercial salmon fisherman, let me give you some advice. SHARPEN YOUR HOOKS! Hooks directly out of the package are never sharp enough. Great video! Fun content!
1st street or the state park. Not as plentiful as 30 years ago. I used to bring an ice chest and two bags of ice knowing that I would be bringing King salmon home.

You should have brought a smoker with you lol I'd be trying to take back as much of those salmon as possible. A smoker and and a canning setup, so you can have some good eats even when you get back to sf. Although I'm sure you will be able to do this again, a trip like that would be once in a lifetime for me. Enjoyed the video, glad you two are having a blast! Keep em coming bud! What rod is that? Looks like it has some great action. Just finished the day fishing from from shore for salmon down in Seattle but wasn’t as skillful (lucky) as you.
I love this channel and have watched it for a while now. I hate to be a critic, but you really should have a net if you know you’re going to do a lot of catch and release (on top of that a rubber, non tail-damaging net). It’s the right thing to do for the health of the fisheries and sets a good example for others to follow.
How every fisherman goes home: Last cast. One more last cast. Ok for real last cast. One more fish. This one's too small let me get a big one. Two hours later: Ok let's go home.
Pinks are mostly intertidal, short stream spawners. The top lure for them is a Pixie. Was the bottom covered with schools of pinks? Was it tough to retrieve and not snag one? A super nice closing scene of you on the beach. I'm greatly enjoying your travels in AK
What a gorgeous scene. One good tip, if you are going to fish to release salmon, it's best practice to pinch the barbs & not let the fish knock itself around on the rocks.
We catch coho, pinks and chinook from the beach where I live in Puget sound. Pinks have been thick this past week! It’s so much fun! If you come back through Washington before the end of September let me know and I’ll give you a spot for coho. Thanks for the awesome vids!
Hi Taku, been catching Pinks here in WA with my partner. Can you sashimi Pinks? If so, how do you prepare it safely? If not, which salmons are okay for sashimi? Kings?
I think just freeze for 7 days and that will kill any parasites! If you want to be extra cautious it can’t hurt to brine with some salt as that would help kill/prevent growth of bacteria

Nice fish! But you make me so nervous when you bring the fish in, plan to keep it, but keep it at the waters edge while you talk etc. Take it up higher away from the water lol I've lost many a fish by taking my time and not getting it away from the waters edge hehe
