I know this will be a controversial subject, but when you spoke about not buying an item that you'll use only one time, it reminded me of my wedding. I did not want to spend money on a wedding gown that would sit forever in a box in my closet after my wedding day. I purchased a very nice white dress that I could wear again, and did on quite a few occasions. Now I will have to say that our wedding was small without a lot of fanfare. For those who go all out on their wedding, I'm sure they would want a gown. It just wasn't that important to me. We took the money saved for a big wedding and used it for our down payment on our home. This year will be our 28th wedding anniversary, and our home means much more to us than one day of a fancy wedding. I know it's not for everyone, but it worked for us.
People don't even realize that most weddings used to be simple, except in very wealthy families. The reception was cake and punch in the church hall. At the end of the day, you're just as married!

I finally figured out the solution to my random need for special occasion clothing. I found a attractive but comfortable classic jacket dress in navy (my black). I like stainless steel pots but cast iron is easier than you think. Water is the enemy of cast iron. You have to make sure and “season” your cast iron and keep putting oil on it after you use it. Search for a video about cast iron care. Also good to know is that there is no ruined cast iron it can always be resurrected!!! Even with rust you can always revive it.
I tried to get rid of my wall clock for 6 months. But constantly found myself looking there for the time. So I gave up and got a new one. I'm very old school like that I guess.
Stainless Steel (but you must heat the pan before adding the oil/butter to ensure it doesn't stick. Also I use Green Pans (available at Targets or Marshalls). They last pretty well as long as you take care of them (handwash vs. dishwasher) and they don't have harmful chemicals.
Now I’ve curated and tweaked my life needs, I’m in replacement/emergency only phase. Love your list! I have similar nails like yours and polish is more trouble than it’s worth. I love my stainless steel pans better than cast, too. Our school used a large hand crank composter that worked really well right in the garden area. And as for #25 YES! I think your home oozes charm, warmth, family and love (not that my opinion matters 😊) Can you please post your granola recipe? I’m looking for the same thing ❤
Great list with good reminders. I use a cast iron skillet every day. I preheat it on lowest setting, and keep it well seasoned (rubbed with oil when still warm ), only soak and clean it with warm water without soap. Otherwise I only have stainless steel cookware and it doesn’t match. I find good quality older SS pots in thrift shops. I do not use paper towels and have plenty of nice rags/cloths which were recycled from our home. 🐇
There are U shaped "cup" brackets which you fasten to the wall and slot your tension rod into - I have the same issue with my shower curtain, it's in two pieces and screws out to fit the space, but it's a proper pain to fit every time I wash the curtain. Look for shower curtain rod holder, or pole end supports :) (ps, just seeing you also shop at Aldi, yay!)
I enjoy some cast iron skillets and stainless steel pots. To keep from sticking, the cast iron needs to seasoned. Also the cast iron with oil in it needs to be hot before cooking in it.
We recently replaced our Teflon pots and pans with ceramic coated. I couldn’t afford 100% ceramic so I figured taking good care of ceramic coated was the next best thing. I would like to replace our dual coffee maker/keureg but my husband likes the pods. If I could, I would get a stainless steel percolator.
Anything that I already have a version of. If I have a cleaner, I need to use it and not buy more until I need it. If I have a facial cleanser then I need to use it. Etc. I know it’s not a true no buy but I have a habit of having doubles and triples because of a sale price or a new product.

@@ArrowHillCottage have you considered enamel coated cast iron? With stainless steel you’ve got to use a fat (butter, avocado oil/ olive oil/ coconut oil) in the skillet or cooking spray. Perhaps use a bit lower heat to cook. I’ve found Lodge brand cast iron is the best and you can lookup how to use cast iron. Cast iron needs to be loved on by being cured or pre-seasoned before the first use unless you buy a pre-seasoned cast iron. Cast iron needs to be dried immediately after washing (you can heat it on the stove top to finish any drying) and keep the cast iron treated/ seasoned with a bit of oil after cleaning/drying. I’ve always heard not to cook tomato products in cast iron as there’s some sort of chemical reaction.
I have used cast iron for years. However is quite heavy. I have now switched to carbon steel. It is similar to cast iron in how you season it, but I have found that once it is done, the seasoning is more forgiving than cadt iron, and half the weight.
Cast iron needs to be kept seasoned once its seasoned it will not stick and youll just be able to wipe it out. Unfortunately ive had to let mine go due to artheritis in my hands and shoulder. I miss it!
@ArrowHillCottage I remember coating the inside of skillet with cooking oil and putting it in the oven then every so often you repeat that process. I cannot remember what temperature or how long you leave it.
Get a couple Lodge cast iron skillets, properly season them, then learn how to care for them (it's easy). Lodge is good but not too expensive. Nothing beats cast iron and they will literally last forever if cared for. Don't be afraid to try it again! The one you showed in the video (if that's yours) could be cleaned up, but it's probably easier to just start with a new good one. And cheap cast iron isn't worth dealing with, so don't buy anything generic or super thin like the off brand ones tend to be. They won't hold the heat and are brittle.
Maybe the one I have now that I used before (yes, that is mine from the video) was a cheaper brittle brand…interesting to know. ❤️

Some women want to dye their hair ongoing helps self esteem.. I do plain manicures, no polish, some fingers bent w/ arthritis don't want to bring attention to my hands. We have several wall clocks.
Yes, I could see hair dye helping in that way. The thing I keep think though, is that a person can’t dye their hair forever. So at some point there will be the awkward ‘grow out’ phase. But maybe that is worth it for some people too. ❤️
I’m one of those who color my hair. I was always natural strawberry blonde and the natural color changing was just gross. I do my own hair color with Nice N Easy so it’s inexpensive. However I am wanting to just go gray because I’m tired of doing the color and I’m really on the fence because I don’t think I’d look like me after having been a natural strawberry blonde 🤦♀️it’s not as much a vanity thing as it is feeling like “me”. I probably just need to get over it 😅😅😅
I think anything other than Stainless Steel or Glass made for the stove, might be toxic. Microscopic pieces come off of Enamel, Iron and Teflon and mix with our food.
I’ve heard that the amount of iron that comes off of cast iron pans can actually benefit health though - since it is something our body needs. True? ❤️
I'm using up all my cleaning products and only buying those I use and need. I also want to not buy paper towels And switch to cloth. I'm already doing laundry, so what's a few more items anyway ?
Another great video! If you want information on making cast iron non-stick, look up a video by searching “Homesteading with the Zimmermans cast iron”. We have followed their instructions and love using cast iron now. Hope this helps!
Most of the things on your list I don’t buy anyway. However, I tend to buy those clear organizers at the Dollar Tree. I have a weakness for them. I’m going to promise to avoid buying them in 2025. I’m also going to make a complete switch to cloth napkins. I already use them most of the time, but this year I will use them all the time & not buy paper napkins.
I have started using my plastic salad containers to organize inside my cabinets. For example: vitamins. Sometimes, I need to double them. I already own so many plastic baskets 🫣, so am trying not to buy anymore.
I held off on cloth napkins for so long because I was worried…but it has been such an easy transition! If we ever order take out food or go to a gas station for food on a road trip, I try to grab a few paper napkins…so we always have a small stash of them around for various things like spills or for guests who are weirded out by the cloth. ❤️
@ I started using them during the pandemic (sort of). They kept talking about a paper shortage and people were hoarding toilet paper. To counter this, I took some old towels and tore them into squares. I kept them in the dining room in a basket and called them my “pandemic napkins”. My husband still prefers them at breakfast instead of the napkins I’ve replaced them with. 🤗
Oooops I neglected to mention that the brand I purchased is Caraway lol☺️ Ceramic cooking surface, no chemicals and easy to clean. A llttle pricey but my set is working well for me 👍
Our generation is over-soaped, over-detergent-ed, and over-de-0dorized. Do we really need all this soap? I haven't put shampoo on my hair in a year, for example. I don't have hair or scalp problems or anything because I'm not dumping over-priced toxic, harsh chemical concoctions on my hair and skin every day. It's the opposite.
It isn’t super deep honestly. It’s just a runoff pond so filled with rainwater and it doesn’t have any fish or anything in it. We will all be sure to wear life jackets as well! Thanks for your concern! ❤️

Cast iron needs to be kept seasoned once its seasoned it will not stick and youll just be able to wipe it out. Unfortunately ive had to let mine go due to artheritis in my hands and shoulder. I miss it!
Maybe I should watch some videos about proper care…❤️
I probably just need to get over it 😅😅😅
As we get older, we need LARGE wall clocks.
Would you be willing to share your DIY cleaning recipe, please?
I would like that also
It is from a website called Hearty Sol - I believe the title of the vlog post is something like ‘best diy multipurpose cleaner’ ❤️
Wall clocks, the "ticking" clutter. 😂
Ha ha! 🤣 ❤️
could you please share the recipe for your multi cleaning product?
White vinegar for mopping floors.Mix w/ water. I use Awsome cleaner for grease and grime (kitchen).
Yes. Give me a bit…I will direct you to the video where I explain what I use. ❤️
@ thank you so much 😊
I think anything other than Stainless Steel or Glass made for the stove, might be toxic.
Microscopic pieces come off of Enamel, Iron and Teflon and mix with our food.
I’ve heard that the amount of iron that comes off of cast iron pans can actually benefit health though - since it is something our body needs. True? ❤️
All-Clad copper core stainless steel pots and pans
Is there something specific about the copper that you like or makes them work better in your opinion? ❤️
Love to see more of this type content ❤ no buy 2025-ers unite 😅
Ha ha! Yes! Let’s save some of that hard earned money for things we actually want and need!!! ❤️
I'm using up all my cleaning products and only buying those I use and need. I also want to not buy paper towels
And switch to cloth. I'm already doing laundry, so what's a few more items anyway ?
Wonderful! Yea we stopped with the paper towels years ago. I haven’t been willing to give up tissues yet though ❤️
Yup, I need to not buy anymore notebooks till I've used up the ones I have.
I feel like most households keep way more paper than they realize! ❤️
I dislike watches and clocks 😂 they make me anxious and uncomfortable. I become a little OCD when I’m around them.
You know - I think I have similar feelings to some degree! ❤️
Another great video! If you want information on making cast iron non-stick, look up a video by searching “Homesteading with the Zimmermans cast iron”. We have followed their instructions and love using cast iron now. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check it out! ❤️
holding up very well and the surface shows no sign of wear.
Oooops I neglected to mention that the brand I purchased is Caraway lol☺️
Ceramic cooking surface, no chemicals and easy to clean. A llttle pricey but my set is working well for me 👍
I'm not buying any furniture or clothing this year.
Great! ❤️
💖💖💖
Thanks for watching!!❤️
Our generation is over-soaped, over-detergent-ed, and over-de-0dorized. Do we really need all this soap? I haven't put shampoo on my hair in a year, for example. I don't have hair or scalp problems or anything because I'm not dumping over-priced toxic, harsh chemical concoctions on my hair and skin every day. It's the opposite.
That’s very interesting! I guess I’ve never thought of that! ❤️
Be careful with the pond. How deep is it?
And the surface of the pond??? Just saying!!
😢
It isn’t super deep honestly. It’s just a runoff pond so filled with rainwater and it doesn’t have any fish or anything in it. We will all be sure to wear life jackets as well! Thanks for your concern! ❤️
