    Wow Paul this was so good! We are always to stressed to film travelling! We remember you mentioning your lost luggage! We only ever travel light and never check in as not to experience this loss! Plus Nick likes to keep everything snappy, first on the plane, first off the plane, no waiting around for luggage, straight to the car hire and away we go (hence no time to even get the GoPro out 😂 this is quite a relaxed airport walk through 😂 👌

      Travelling can be a bit stressful, especially to new places. And well now I know how to mitigate lost luggage a bit more. It was pretty tough surviving on the bare minimum for a week! Only so many times you can turn your underpants inside out 😂 Had to buy new hiking shoes, trousers/shorts etc and in Switzerland! It was expensive! Anyway did manage to claim that back on travel insurance so all good in the end. I was there for 2 weeks so I couldn't see myself surviving on hand luggage. Having said that I survived on less for a week ha ha. I've never done car hire while away and try to use public transport. The public transport in Switzerland is pretty darn good tho. Hopefully people find this video useful for making the same journey. Thank you very much for taking time to watch. Have a great weekend 🙂👍Paul

    One of the best things after a flight - is the walk to the exit on the airport. I love stretching my legs and get my circulation going again. I would have chosen that empty excavator too 🤣! Because of the long walk- one can be assured the baggage has also made it's way to the baggage hall. Saves waiting. Very modern, very big and very busy. Great overview. 👌🇳🇱🙋‍♀🥝

      @TheHikingHermit  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I usually like to get ahead of the crowds when getting off a flight by using stairs but at Geneva this proved difficult with no stair options in lots of cases. I don't like hanging around behind people! Hopefully people find the walkthrough along with the way to Geneva Airport train station useful. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great weekend 👍🙂Paul

    Well that sucks that your luggage was lost! Glad you decided it wasn't going to ruin your vacation. You have provided some excellent information on finding the train from the Geneva Airport. We don't have much for trains in the US, with the exception of the northeast part of the country, so it is nice that you can take that right to your destination. Have a great weekend! 😊👍

      Yeah the lost luggage scenario wasn't the best. Thankfully all the stuff I had to buy was covered by insurance. When in Switzerland I used trains to get everywhere and the occasional bus or tram. As you will see in up and coming videos it gets you to some amazing places. I hope people find this Geneva Airport guide useful. Thank you very much for watching. I hope you're having a great weekend 🙂👍Paul

    This is super helpful! Navigating from an airport to the city center can be tricky, but you make it seem so easy. 🚆 Thanks for the tips! Oh no, the classic ‘Where’s my luggage?’ saga strikes again! 🧳😂 So sorry to hear about your luggage! 😔 But I admire your positive attitude and focus on enjoying your trip despite the hiccup. Your advice on using the SBB app for real-time train info is a lifesaver! It can be so stressful figuring out train platforms in a new place.

    this must've been a painful episode because of the luggage loss, paul. no getting ahead, airports are all about treating us as cattle. 😂 it's clean and has great windows. too many big ads in the tunnely bits, but that's how it goes, eh? and don't you love how they always make you walk through the gift shops? good info and nice people watching, paul. i'm sure this will help a lot of people. and hopefully me one day! 🛴❤

      Hi Anne, not receiving my luggage wasn't the best experience I have to admit but I'm now more aware of what to do under the circumstances and how to mitigate things beforehand. I slowly picked myself up and eventually resigned myself to not receiving it for my entire trip but thankfully I did. I was thinking of doing a video on it but I have a lot to get thro already. I never notice the ads and walk thro the gift shops with tunnel vision ha ha. Hopefully people find the video useful and that they receive their luggage, Tho that wasn't the fault of Geneva Airport. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great weekend 🙂👍Paul

    Hate those narrow corridors where you're stuck behind slow walkers 😅 Geneva airport is a weird one because if you're coming from a French airport you can go through a 'French side' of the airport. How annoying you didn't get your luggage for the first week 😢 train station looks nice and chill, as expected in Switzerland I guess. Cheers Paul!

    • @TheHikingHermit
      @TheHikingHermit  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Can you tell I don't like being stuck behind slow people either. A bit weird that there was a lack of stairs. I wasn't best pleased about the luggage but I ended up getting by. I even resigned myself to perhaps not getting it all on the trip. Thankfully all the stuff I had to buy was covered by insurance. Switzerland sure is pretty slick when travelling. Thank for watching Matt. Hope you're having a great weekend 👍🙂

    Very helpful, as EasyJet do enough flights a day between Manchester and Geneva to even allow a daytrip to Geneva. In fact, I've recently done a daytrip to Zurich now EasyJet started flying there as well, and flew back from Basel (got to visit both cities in one day thanks to that), but Geneva definitely seems more simple for this kind of thing due to more frequent flights. Personally, I'm more of a daytrip kind of person (accommodation takes up way too much cost-wise and finding the time for longer stays) so I can happily skip the hassle of baggage claim as everything I need to carry fits into a small backpack. The airport-to-city fare for Geneva (3CHF for 1hr) is certainly much cheaper than for Basel (6.60CHF for 2hrs) or Zurich (7CHF for 1hr), as the former involves crossing the border (Basel-Mulhouse Airport is on French soil) and the latter is simply bigger (airport in Geneva is much closer to city centre than for Zurich) with a more dense transport network.

    • @TheHikingHermit
      @TheHikingHermit  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This was a "fine" start to a 2 week trip to Switzerland. I managed to get by until my luggage arrived and claimed on the insurance upon my return. I actually flew back home from Basel. No train into Basel airport tho and it was a bus, which was easy enough. I hope to be back in Switzerland so will certainly look at Zurich as I also wouldn't mind a trip to Lake Constance. Thanks for dropping by and adding your insights 🙂👍Paul

    • @AymanTravelTransport
      @AymanTravelTransport หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheHikingHermit nice to see it worked out for you in the end. I'm guessing in your situation, you focused more on exploring the cities and towns at a leisurely pace (I heard Vevey and Montreux are insanely beautiful), saving the big hikes for when you got your luggage back. To be fair, the bus connection to Basel airport is very good (fast, frequent and operates like the trams), and the single fare for it gives 2-hours of unlimited public transport validity within the zones between the city and airport, which was very convenient as that was exactly the amount of time I had in Basel before I needed to head for the airport. Thus, I used the ticket to hop on the trams up the city centre, have a coffee at one of the old town squares and do a spot of shopping at Rheingasse, where you get a Migros hypermarket and Manor department store (which has an excellent roof terrace in its restaurant) across the street from each other, before coming back to SBB to catch the bus to the airport.

    • @TheHikingHermit
      @TheHikingHermit  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AymanTravelTransport actually I did some big hikes before I got my luggage. I wasn't going to let the delayed luggage spoil my trip too much. I bought a load of hiking gear and managed to claim all of it back on insurance when I returned. I've been saving all the videos from the Switzerland trip for early in the New Year when they maybe appreciated a bit more. Get Christmas out of the way

    Well here’s a strange thing … I actually enjoy watching these “How to” videos you produce even though there is next to no chance of me visiting Geneva in the foreseeable future haha I guess it’s still interesting to see other places whether it be a city, mountain or airport and you can wonder at “Why did that guy buy that multicoloured rucksack “ 🤔🤔😂 How odd, no stairs … it’s usually lots of stairs & no escalators .. I guarantee you’ll have a different opinion in the years to come haha That said it looked a pretty nice airport with the exception of narrow walkways… think you got your first hike in there & then as it seemed quite a distance to the train. Brilliant idea to give all the ticket techy info as it can be pretty baffling. I feel your pain with the lost luggage .. pleased you decided to improvise asap and enjoy what sounds to be a fantastic trip… looking forward to the videos 🏔 ⛰ 😎

    • @TheHikingHermit

      Ha ha are you sure? I didn't even notice a multicoloured rucksack. The lack of stairs was a bit rubbish as it's my outlet to get ahead of the slow crowd. Not the best having to cope with no luggage but after the initial shock I muddled by. I should have quite a few videos to come from Switzerland in the not too distance future. Thanks for watching 🙂👍Paul
