L C well, we didn’t HAVE an iPod or pad until a VERY few years ago. I know all these, as did my mother and grandmother. They played them and sang along, records, however primitive, then radio, then tv, and so on.🤷‍♀️ in almost every house, Someome could play the piano. Those scenes you see in Christmas movies with everybody gathered around the piano and singing are not made up.

Hi Punki80 - Yes, death is painful for us and it is an enemy, but through Jesus Christ we can overcome death, and then death is not Goodbye forever, but only, See you later. It's a matter of simply having faith in Jesus and inviting him into our hearts, repenting of our sins, then we will be forgiven and receive eternal life. That's the wonderful Gospel message. If we all do that, death is still sad parting, but we know we'll see those people again in Heaven. And we'll see them soon enough, as life goes by quickly, as you said.
Jesus is truly the reason for the season! There would be no Christmas carols and no festive season of merrymaking if the Son of God were not born into the world. Maybe you know all this, but many people don't, or they don't care. We should all reflect on this, pray, accept him (if we haven't) and we'll all rejoice forever more some day. Heaven will be like Christmas forever!

We and our parents lived our whole lives with the knowledge that any recorded session could be available for future generations. In the early 1900s, this must have been a novelty. I wonder if the Edison Concert Band members thought that someone would be listening 111 years later using a technology they would find indistinguishable from magic.

I'm gonna go with yes, at least in the case of anything related to Edison. By this time the Library of Congress was already putting together a collection of culturally significant recordings for preservation. Grace and Blessings are coming as such surprises this special Christmas season ! My parents were born in 1915, and my Mother's Father sang in a religious Quartet. I'm so certain that these songs were part of their growing years. The songs have brought tears of love to my heart and soul. Thank you for producing this treasure. This was a wonderful window into the world of my grandparents and their childhood. It was very interesting and funny to hear some of the women roll their "R"s when they sang. It presumably gives them an heir of class. This music always reminds me of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." Thank you, it was really wonderful to partake. Since these were wax cylinders. I don't think these were mass produced or printed but rather numerous engraving victrola's with microphones were individually-producing as the artists performed the songs. Each cylinder was an original. Such a treat to hear this from Mr Edison!

      > It was very interesting and funny to hear some of the women roll their "R"s when they sang. It presumably gives them an heir of class.
Lightly tapping (not "rolling") the "R" was probably still seen as part of "proper diction" back then. Although it's unlikely any of them actually spoke that way in day-to-day conversation, actors in the theater (or indeed singers) would have been trained on "good English".
