As a left-handed person, myself, I have found that the fisher space pen is a great pocket-sized pen to use when you can't use something else and it's small enough to keep it in your pocket to always have something available when needed.
It might sound old-school, but Filofax do some tiny pens that work well for the more beautiful, intelligent and creative (ie. LEFTIES). Proud to be one.
@@joeallam if you want a small EDC pen then I recommend the Tactile Turn mini “Bolt Action” or “Side Click”. They’re 100% American made in Texas. Another great option is the Big Idea Design “Ti Pocket Pro”. Both companies using titanium, brass, copper or zirconium as the pen materials.
You might be the only tech TH-camr ever that has a silver MacBook Pro instead of a black/grey one lol and I love it, really brings back the feeling when Macs only came in the silver aluminum finish and it's still the look I prefer.
I've been on the hunt for a decent tech pouch for a while and that Aer one has now been added to the contenders haha. Thanks for the video, Joe! Always enjoy these.
Yeah, it’s a good’un! I’ve been through quite a few, but stuck with this Aer one comfortably for a few years now. The trickiest thing was finding one big enough for the UK plug head on the charger as well as my glasses
Cheers! I've been desperate for a setup with a desk/table in front of me and this is the closest I can get in our tiny flat. Glad you liked the audio - I actually messed it up a bit as the mic was hidden just in front of me, clamped to the table. I realised it didn't have enough "air" around it and so the bassy tones reverberated off the hard wood and overpowered the sound quite a bit. Took a lot of EQ tweaks, but got something fairly okay in the end!
I traveled with the Sony XM4, and the Bose 700, and airpod pro 2nd gen. I am happy to say I will only keep the airpod pros, they sound so good and cancel noise so well while staying comfortable. For the size saving it's a no brainer imho
Would love to see you, if any odd chance, in Vietnam as well, you are always an inspiration. Figer crossed for Japan opening up as well, I spent 4 years in Japan and always wanting to come back to reminisce. All the best to you and your travels.
Cheers! I'd love to visit Vietnam, although I'm not 100% sure where just yet as I know there's significant difference in vibe from North to South, which makes me want to see all of it!
There would be so much differences between North&South, and in the best sense possible. For starters I would recommend Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh city as a safe bet, then work your way towards the Central to explore more.
Always love these gear updates, and it's great to see the return of long-term international travel to the channel! I see that AY airline code; hope you enjoy Finnair ✈
Cheers! I've flown Finnair a few times and I'm a big fan - great fleet of A350s, clean design, friendly service and transit through Helsinki is smooth and geographically efficient to Asia. Helsinki is also just outside the bounds of short-haul from London, so it counts as double long-haul points! 🤘
Great video! Would love to see something on how you packed and prepared to live out of one checked bag, presumably, for six weeks or longer. I think I’d learn something useful.
Glad to see that your traveling again! With any luck I’ll be heading out to photograph more of the world soon. I’m looking to buy a tracker for my camera bag. Any reason you chose Tile over Apple Tag??
I’m about 4 weeks in to a 6/7 week trip in Thailand myself, has been amazing to finally get here after our first failed attempt in March 2020. Would love the opportunity to buy you a beer if we happen to be in the same place sometime. Your travel videos were a staple for me during lockdowns
Hello Joe, Thailand great place, and glad your both going on a plane again, very informative, nice one mate, all good here, photo work good, but video insperation very low at the moment, but if all goes well this weekend, lets see, anyway all the best.
I was judging you to see if after all of the fancy tech gear that you brought the most important and most often forgotten travel accessory - a basic pen - and you delivered.
When I'm sitting in front of someone on public transportation I only recline if I'm really uncomfortable or am trying to sleep but before I recline I ask them if I recline a little bit
If you need to separate business and personal cash but you want one single wallet, I believe Bellroy makes one with two compartments, if I remember correctly it is called the hide and seek
Cheers for the suggestion - it looks like a pretty standard wallet formation, but unfortunately the key thing missing is a separate areas for coins. Let's hope more of the world is on contactless card payments now!
It’s cool to see how different people pack for travels! Good to hear that you’ll be travelling to Asia! Also I couldn’t help but notice, and I’m sure you’ve already realized at this point. You made a typo, have the iphone 12 pro max, i miss that beautiful pacific blue color haha
Hahaha! I knew something looked and sounded odd when I said 13 Pro Max. Honestly, these last two years have just rolled into one that I can't even remember what's latest and what's not. I think maybe subconsciously I wish it was a 13 pro Max...

Incredibly handy post Joe - thank you. Just in the middle of planning a couple of weeks in Iceland - which will be my first holiday that's predominantly for photography, so lots of helpful stuff here. One question - as someone who doesn't have a laptop - I'm trying to work out the best way to store/back-up images on the road. Have you ever used a HDD with an SD slot?
Ahh, excellent! I’m sure you’re going to love travelling specifically for photography and I can almost guarantee two things: 1. your photography will improve rapidly and you’ll love the natural inspiration. 2. There will be parts of your workflow and process that you’ll be eager to change when you do it all again! Ideally, if you can review your images whilst you’re travelling, you’ll spot ways of improving and approaching things differently for the following days. I had a 1st gen. gnarbox but I didn’t get on with it well enough. If you have some way of reviewing the images/importing them to your smartphone, that would be a great help! Otherwise, I’d probably invest in multiple memory cards.

When im out of uni its possible that ill be travelling a lot for work so I was wondering if anyone knows if the Aer Travel Pack 2 is too big to be taken on as a carry on luggage?
