Once again beautiful music and wonderful ensemble and individual playing by this, in my view,of British bands whom I have admired since my youth (I am now 85, as is my wonderful wife of nearly 62 years ---- married on 9/6/62). We used to often see thChris Barber jazz band when they were in the area where we lived then. They appeared at the Unity Hall in Wakefield and at St. George's Hall in Bradford from time to time. I still have many C. Ds and even some records, though no record player anymore. I do still recall the names of some of the then band members, such as Monty Sunshine, Jim Bray. Pat Halcock, who was in this Cologne recording, - other names will come to me when I get out my C.D. player etc. My.memory is not what it was after an illness -also due to my age and stupidity too. God bless all of those who see this and have listened to Chimes Blues and all others, too. I am now about to try to find the Monty Sunshine Jazz Band, Ivan.
Great intro to this set. Did not realise that Chris was also multi lingual. At 80 years young, still a jazz fanatic. I had the honour to be at a post gig party with The Dutch Swing college band in Glasgow and met Peter Swillperout and Arie lightfoot. What a memory from some 60 years ago.
You who play the Clarinet, you sound like Ar- die Saw, and Peat with Benny Goodman lingering . Your tone is fantastic and mellow. Very good Technic. Good Dixieland jazz .
20170105 I still have the 7" EP with Chris Barber's 1954 Chimes Blues on it. Es ist nicht das Gleiche wie dieses; das erstere ist einfacher, but they are both wonderful.
Mr Barber speaks very good German, albeit with a noticeable English accent. I wonder how he learned it so well - was he perhaps in the British Army of the Rhine in the 1950s?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think he forsook Ottilie Patterson for a German beauty queen.
